    Evening, and happy New Year.

So, I came across a fan edit of R1 and ANH, last night, and had to watch the hallway scene a few times, but it was on my little phone.

I swear, Vader catches a blaster-bolt, kills 4 or 5 people, then throws the bolt from his hand at a rebel.

    Did I see this right?

I've seen the movie twice now and I haven't seen that happen.

No. He doesn't catch and hold the blaster bolt. If you currently have access to a recording of the scene and slow it down at that part, you can see the bolt moving towards him and he opens his hand at the last minute to reflect it. He barely adjusts the position of his hand and arm at all to do it because it the soldier practically fired at his clenched fist.

But even if he had it wouldn't have really been a new ability, just new as far as current canon is concerned. The ability has been depicted in the EU materials.
