I was wondering today if there might be any new skills or abilities when using the force for the ST?

Some of the abilities we have seen so far in the star wars movies are telekenis, telepathy, force leaps, force speed, force chokes (which may come under telekenis), battle meditation, force lightning, force stealth and mind tricks.

I have read a long list on wookiepedia of other force abilities from the novels, comics and TV shows of the franchise. I wonder if that list will be drawn from for ideas in the ST?

The creators may even come up with some entirely new ones or expand on previous existing ones. For instance we only saw a mere glimpse of force speed in the PT.

What force abilities would you like to see in the new trilogy? Would you like to see any new abilities or are you a purist and would rather the characters use the old abilities we know and love? Do you think Luke will have something new up his sleeve now he has had time to learn about the force? Maybe it's not Luke but the new young characters such as Rey, Finn (if they are force sensitive) and Kylo Ren who might if they are untrained develop their own new and unique abilities in using the force? I would be very interested to read people's thoughts on this matter....

I kind of wondered if the "flashbacks" might be Force visions. Granted, visions have happened in the movies so it's not a brand-new power, but it's a different application of it. Anakin saw the future and so did Luke ... but Yoda said, “Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future, the past. Old friends long gone”

Just idle speculation on my part.

Well we do almost have evidence for it already!
There`s a really awesome scene in the trailer at Kylo Ren`s Star Destroyer (The Finalizer?) were he interrogates Poe Dameron. In these scene we see Poe in great suffering and pain. Kylo is doing something with his hand, which most likely is a sith torture technic of some sort. This seemed like the ability the Inquisitor used at Kanan in Rebels. Instead of mind-tricking, as the Jedi do, the Knights of Ren try to drag it out of him. The Jedi do not hurt the victims they`re using this technic on, but Sith have a slight tendency to be a little more agressive to say the least. I know the Rens aren`t a Siths, but surely the must have picked up a few things from them. They both use the dark side of the force...
We`ll just have to wait until December and see.

Yes I noticed that too. He could be trying to extract information from Poe's mind or he could be forcing terrible images into his mind causing him extreme stress and fear. Like you say we shall see...

Maybe their abilities develop based on their personalities.

Hasn't it been mentioned that there is already a new interrogator droid for The. ST? I wonder? Does the droid also torture Poe, or, as you're saying, is KR using some special technique that we haven't seen before?

How about a force shield ability? ... If they sit and meditate they can form an untouchable force bubble around themselves or another. It would require 100% of the force users concentration, otherwise it would fail and leave them vulnerable. To balance things out they could be completely exhausted for some amount of time afterwards and need to rest.

I kinda see what Darth Vader did in ESB as a kind of force shield, when he blocks Han's Blaster shots, but one could also argue he's using his mechanical arm to absord the damage...

I have one in mind but it's a bit over the top : Flying
Jedi can levitate starship with their power, surely they could use that power on themselves, but it may be too much for some people I guess.

Vader kind of flew - glided I guess - down the staircase in the carbonite chamber during the duel with Luke.

I see what you mean about the dining room scene ... from memory Vader was deflecting the blaster bolts using his hands. I guess that could be regarded as a shield.
