Maul's double blade, Ren's cross guard.... will we see a lightsaber used in a conceptually new way in The Rise of Skywalker?

I wager 100 credits that we WILL see a new type of saber in IX.

Would a red lightsaber turning white count as a new type of saber?

Hmmm... let's say that a new color alone won't count, but a lightsaber changing from one color to another will count.

    Deal?

And Rey would be creating one. 100 credits that there would be a new design. Though, to be fair, I'm not sure what you can do to a lightsaber hilt/blade without making it look funny.

I'm sure a number of people had mused the very same before seeing Ren's cross guard :D

Let's see what they can come up with! (hopefully)

i didn't bet on this (not sure how i missed it lol), but is that saber a new type?

one of the Jedi in the clone wars series carried two almost identical double bladed sabers that folded in the same way (google is failing me at this point, but i'm 100%... 90.. .. ok 60% sure that i'm right. maybe 50% :D)

i agree, and i'd probably side with it being a new type for the purposes of the wager.

it'll have to be Snowy's call though i guess :)

i still can't find this ruddy Jedi from the CW that i boastfully mentioned lol. i'm down at 20% now and in real danger of looking like a complete dip-stick.

I was definitely going to call it win for the "New Saber Concept" wagers but this totally ruined that:
..and now I don't know which way to go.

Here's my original post, and to be honest I was only considering the films as I haven't really seen much of TCW or any of Rebels, so I wasn't thinking of any of the animated series. But the folding double blade definitely exists in Rebels, so I don't know. Rey's ignites before unfolding, I don't know if that's a big enough difference or not....

I'm adding a poll to the top of this thread, please vote to determine the outcome of this wager. More weight goes to the votes who don't hold a stake in this wager. @Maximus, @FN-3263827, @NinjaRen, @RockyRoadHux, @Lock_S_Foils, @Trevor, @Anubis78 .... as regular bettors who didn't take part in this one, I would appreciate any input.

i went with no, as i think that seeing it in 2 different shows (one very recent) gives it a solid existence (particularly with this crowd).

I actually think that there's still a good chance that there will be a new type in TROS though. with KOR, sith troopers and all sorts of new characters... i think i would have wagered that we'll see a new one.

i think the game is still afoot
    :)

edit: if it goes 'no' then i'll wager that we'll get a new saber still :D

I would think that yes Krells is a folding lightsaber counts as this is not new does his light when folded? If it doesn't then Rey double blade counts. Because there are a lot of double ended like Mauls. If it changes color, folds and can be lite as one, two or staff, then yes it is a new style of saber.

good point, there may be yet another new concept!

Thread stays open, but any bets after this do not have anything to do with the "Dark Rey" saber.

We'll see how the rest of the voting goes on that one specifically. Thanks all for your input so far

    yay !!!!

so... i wager 100 cred-a-roonies that there will be a "new new" (not just "new" as Rey's might be new*) type of light saber in TROS ~ @DarthSnow ~
