@ Luke's beard I think the Knights of the Old Republic is what Rian Johnson's trilogy is going to be about.

For the TV series, my first and logical guess is this:

Kathleen Kennedy said in the past that the concept art for Star Wars: 1313 was "something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, poring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further". So, while the chances of this game getting back into development are minimal, taking the concept further and developing it into a TV series instead may very well be what's going to happen. I mean, Kathleen says that they're spending A LOT OF TIME looking at it. I think it's no coincidence. This has been in discussions at Lucasfilm for a looooong time. Besides, it's very much in tune with what the Star Wars: Underworld series was going to be about.

I have a bad feeling about another new trilogy....

What if its an 'alternate galaxy' reboot of the existing Star Wars, you know, like JJ Abrahms did with Star Trek ?!

Ugh. Anyway, Star Wars needs a traditional 10-15 year real-time gap between trilogies. It's too soon for another one.

I wonder where will they film the T.V. series: London, U.S. (Atlanta or Hollywood), Canada? It would be cool if they film it in the U.S., since the Pinewood Studios is primarily focused on the movies. I hope the T.V. series is will have well-written content. I don't want a fiasco of a Marvel's Inhumans, but I also don't want it to feel like "T.V." either like the CW superhero shows. I just don't want the T.V. series to feel low budget. I love how Game of Thrones and Stranger Things have a cinematic feel to there storytelling. I am openminded to whatever premise the show will take place in the Galaxy Far Far Away, I just want really good characters to fall in love with and to root for. I also want really good villains as well.

I have high hopes for the prospect of this TV series.

Absolutely agreed- I’d prefer it doesn’t go to Filoni either... or anyone else we’re familiar with in the SW franchise.

There’s great potential here- the opportunitiy for something utterly new and qualitative is at their (our) fingertips.

    I hope it’s done well.

I don't think they would have announced it unless they had a strategy for dealing with the most obvious problem: that people expect live action Star Wars to come with state of the art SFX, but that it isn't possible to do that in TV. They must already have some strategy in mind for dealing with this problem.

The most obvious solution: don't make it a show that would have to rely too heavily on space battles and other elaborate SFX constantly to work. Something that works with a lot of indoor sets, and can adapt existing locations to its needs (like Game of Thrones).

As for where it's going to be shot: I suspect that it won't be in the US. Labor laws and the strength of the dollar won't allow them to stretch their budget in the way they'd need to in order to pull this off. So (again, like Game of Thrones), I suspect they'll shoot in some small country with loose labor laws, and that will give them all kinds of tax breaks in return.

They will give it to Dave Filoni as the final stepping stone towards the live action film. He is always on the movie set anyway. They (Lucasfilm) would like to keep him as he is the closest they have to Lucas in terms of ideas, he probably wouldn't be cuffed by age appropriate/budget on a streaming service, that would be a challenge for him and while most of the people wouldn't know who he is, fans know.

They could go to Canada, they have some great studios there. The Expanse has the largest sound stage there, they blow up sets ever other episode. The VFX will not be up to movie standards anyway, but ILM can still do better than most of the other companies. We'll see, it's more likely that they will tell us what the show will be about that Rian's movies with three (with unconfirmed Obi-Wan four) still ahead of us.

    it won't be this.

god I hope you're wrong - Filoni's mediocricy has infected star wars enough.

TV effects are fine for TV these days. Someone mentioned The Expanse - that shows what you can do now. They have scenes in space, urban settings, artificial environments and barren landscapes. Also, I wouldn't mind if it had a grittier less polished look more akin to the original trilogy pre special editions. If they go for something in the distant past of the galaxy or a bounty hunter/smuggler type thing that could work a treat.

If Dave Filoni gets the gig I could see an Ahsoka series.

A show about the Rebel/New Republic Special Forces, taking place from Endor to Jakku and beyond. Bring back characters like Madine as the guy in charge as well as Genevieve O'Reily as Mothma for another familiar face. Have the show star Temuera Morrison as Rex as one of the main roles. Make it Band of Brothers but in a Galaxy Far Far Away.

It would depend on when they were setting the show. If the show takes place around the OT then I would want it to be as you described "a grittier less polished look more akin to the original trilogy pre special editions" but if it took place during or before the PT I would understand and want it to look cleaner and more polished like the prequels were. My big thing is consistency, that's one reason Rogue One deserves praise, it definitely looked like the Original trilogy.

This is by far the most exciting Star Wars news I”ve heard since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. Not only do I feel a sense of relief (having waited anxiously since 2005 for a live action Star Wars television show,) but it has the potential to bring so much to this galaxy. Rebels was ok, but cartoons can only do so much, particularly cartoons with young kids as the primary audience. This live action show can be as dark as they want it to be. I love it.

In my opinion, I think we might get a Luke Skywalker live action series taking place between Episodes 6 & 7 or about the Resistance becoming the new Rebellion taking place between Episodes 8 & 9 to get us ready for Episode IX. However, I think the latter idea would be better suited for an animated TV series but we shall see. :) Nonetheless, I am truly excited for this upcoming live action series coming up, no matter what it will be based on.

I second this post. I'm not too fond of Filoni either. His storytelling is kind of meh.

With Solo released in a couple weeks and Resistance already announced, I hope Disney announces details on this untitled live action streaming show soon. After all, Disney’s streaming service is launching next year.
    2019 is coming quick...
