I just heard from a reliable source that the series will be called “Star Wars: Meesa Back!”, and will follow the continuing adventures of everyone’s favorite Gungan as he:

    - Gets married and raises children!
    - Tries out a series of jobs, such as Star-Wars-Bucks barista!
    - Learns to play musical instruments with various parts of his body!
    - And more!

The new streaming series is supposed to take place 7 years after Return of the Jedi with new characters. I am intrigued.

Dont know man. I'm waiting to get some more information of what the series is actually about before I'm announcing my excitment. There is alot they could do with this series In terms of the timeline.. So lets hope they make some great choices and give the fans just a little bit of what we each want..

7 years after ROTJ could mean anything. I wouldn't necessarily count on t being about the rise of the Resistance. I mean, they just announced a new anime series which will focus on the Resistance. I doubt they're going to have this live-action series focus on the exact same thing. A live-action series from the bad guys point of view (Imperial Remnants) would be interesting but I doubt they're going down this route.

The problem with this time period is that it's quite unappealing. What specifically worries me is that they're going to focus on new characters. Unless you focus on the rebuilding of the New Republic and Imperial Remnants, there's really not that much interesting going on the galaxy that would set it apart from other time periods. That being said, if they so desperately want the series to be about new diverse characters, you're quickly running out of options. You could make a series about smugglers and bounty hunters in the New Republic era, but in that case - How can the writers come up with enough interesting lore and background that will justify the series being set in this specific era and not post-Clone Wars or something like that? Listen, I'm not saying that they shouldn't make a TV series set in this time period, don't get me wrong. I'm not the kind of fanboy who just wants stuff set between ROTS and ANH. I'm just saying that there's only so much you could do, and they'd be taking huge risks if they (yet again) exclude and bypass important characters such as Luke, Leia and Han.

That being said - a live-action series set after the events of ROTJ should be about the rebuilding of the New Republic and have lots of focus on politics and how the galaxy is being reshaped. And in such a series, it's PIVOTAL that we see the return of characters such as Luke, Leia and Han.

Why was TCW so good? Not only did it have interesting new characters, but it didn't exclude or bypass important characters such as Anakin and Obi-Wan.
Why was Rebels so bad? Because it didn't focus on the relevant characters in such a story. The actual Rebel Alliance should have been the focus, not some random tag-team of characters that always happens to be at the right place at the right time and then disappearing into obscurity.

breaking news on Star Wars News Net...

...it’s taking place 7 years after A New Hope, not ROTJ. I was really worried about that. I wanted this ambitious show to take place as far from existing canon as possible. Now it looks like this film may just be a film adaption of Aftermath...

The only thing that would intrigue me is if the show centers around Luke’s secret journey to find the Jedi history with Lor San Tekka... but the problem with that, of course, is that you need a ROTJ-age Luke (Favraou said “ cutting edge CGI,” but I’m not sure if we’re ready for CG that advanced yet...)

Great as far as I'm concerned. We've seen barely anything in the 30 year gap.

I am excited to be getting a live action SW TV series, but if I am being honest, I am a bit disappointed that it is so close in time to the OT. I want to see them expand things more. Still, I look forward to seeing it.

As much as I hate Jar Jar, I did like the duo episodes from late Clone Wars "The Disappeared" parts I & II. Only Jar Jar canon I enjoyed.

Understand your point, but OT fans have been craving content post-RotJ for...well, 35 years ;)

Looking forward to this more than anything else they are doing. Movies can be predictable and unsatisfying now. TV shows let you live in that world and that will be fantastic is this show is done even reasonably well.

I look at a show like Godless which was meant to be a movie. If that was a movies it would have been a boring cliche driven film. But as a show you could just live in it and let it play out.

Yeah, to go along with this comment, television shows seem to rely less on action and more dialogue, which I love in Star Wars. (I’m one of the few who enjoyed the politics of the prequels and the lengthy dialogue in TLJ.)
One thing that surprises me is the lack of details on this show. If Disney wants their streaming service to compete with Netflix and Hulu, they should really start advertising its upcoming content, since it launches next year.

Wait, is it happening 7 years after ANH or ROTJ? Cause now I'm a little confused.

The word going around today (which may or may not be accurate) is that Disney is trying to get this show ready before Episode IX, which would put it around Fall 2019.

It is set 7 years after the battle of Yavin, so about 3 years after Endor.

I wonder how this TV is going to affect the presumed "Star Wars fatigue". We know that (lack of) cartoons don't affect this at all. But a tv show? Assuming that it's ok to good of course, if it's bad (or "divisive") than it certainly wound make things worse.

the success of Gotham with the casual fans in spite of it being pretty soundly loathed by most Batman fans tells me that 1.) fatigue is not a universal thing. 2.) even a bad show won't ruin otherwise good content elsewhere. 3.) not all people who watch the movies watch the shows or actually care.

i hope the show is good; i don't have a strong feeling about it at this point.
what i don't want from this (and/or the coming cartoon), is more Resistance-perspective storytelling.
something a little more complex would be more interesting to me personally.

Star Wars is the only franchise I know of where the term "fatigue" is used, so I am not really sure what to compare it too. For example, MCU releases 3 movies a year and there is no "fatigue".
As for feeling, nobody knows what it's gonna be about, so it's ok to not have any feelings just yet.
I personally want something about early days of the New Republic, so we could see how ineffective it is from the get go and to see some space ships firing lasers and blowing up. Of course, what we are most likely to get is a show about criminal underworld and that Shadow war from the Last Shot (which I am yet to read).

i hear "fatigue" all the time from the comic book world.
so it's not a problem attributed to (or by) Star wars fans exclusively.

you gotta read Last Shot, it's just a great kick in the pants.
there's some dumb stuff in it (ewok engineer, i'm looking at you), but its heart is all in the right place.

Well, hopefully the show would be good enough tp make more people go see the movies in theatres.

Oh, I will! I'm just waiting for it to be published over here. I prefer to read in my own language and read in English only when I have to.
