    I'd like to know what happened to the TIE interceptor, Bomber, as well as the B-Wing and A-Wing.

    The Y-Wing was an outdated starfighter by the time of Jedi, so I wouldn't expect that to still be in use.

    this is cool, but I like the 80's vibe on REN film version of the ship.

    His ship that is in the film looks like something I would have drawn back in the 80's as a young kid.

    My gut feeling is that they kept the designs familiar because the movie was meant to reintroduce the saga to the masses not just the fanboys. They were going for people like my Mom who couldn't give two shits about the Star Wars Prequels but when she heard Han Solo and Luke and Leia were back wants to see it because she remembered those characters. I figure the upcoming episodes will start to branch out.

    Well we dont know if they have other bases somewhere like the Rebellion did and if the Republic does give them ships then i would love to see a B-wing we might even see Chopper from Star Wars Rebel's :D

    Yes, TFA was a starting point, getting us back to the Star Wars that most of us love. So they stuck to X-wings and TIE fighters. It's the same with having another Death Star in Starkiller base and another desert planet. But now that TFA accomplished its mission we should move on to new creations. I will be disappointed if in Ep8 we don't see A-Wings, B-Wings, Tie Interceptors, and a bunch of brand new designs that we haven't seen yet!

    There has to be. I can see why both side might just be using their old star fighters with the treaty and what not. But you would think that both sides are going to ramp up their production of fighters and capital ships now that the FO has breached the treaty in order to prepare for an all out war.

    I'm thinking that as the Resistance has lost most of their fleet they are going to have to scrape the bottom of the barrel so to speak. I would imagine they would need to acquire ships by:
    1) Gathering the remainder of the Republic fleet and whatever the Resistance has left
    2) Building new ships. These could be newer versions of X-Wings, B-Wings, A-Wings, etc.
    3) Salvaging old junk that they didn't bother to use before, from junkyards or museums - fixing up old X-Wings or even Y-wings, etc.
    4) Finding sympathetic systems and begging for tech - Mon Cal Cruisers, Naboo starfighters, and all kinds of unseen ships from unseen systems

    I would love to see Ep VIII have a hodgepodge fleet like we saw in RoTJ. I loved the array of different ships we saw there.

    Those new designs were very un-Star Wars though and I remember responding really flatly to them. Probs why they weren't included! They'd have been better off using fan-moded versions of EU ships from something like Empire at War (old SW strategy game), there were some sweet Tie-Uglys, Defenders, K-Wings, and allllll sorts of radical capital ships floating around the mod sites back when that game was the shiz.
