Is the new Star Destroyer pure white, or just a glare?

Call me crazy, but in the trailer, the Star Destroyer that we get a good close-up of looks to be pure white. I know it could be argued it is because the reflection is so bright, but I believe if that were the case, the DS would have the same sheen, being built of primarily the same materials. With that being said, I think it is a fair bet that the new Star Destroyer is actually pure white, and is the flagship of this new apparent member of the ISB.

I am interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

AFAIR the ISDs in Episode IV all looked more like a plain white-ish color, the original studio model proves it, too. From Ep V onwards they looked more of a grey tone.

It's a brand new ship with fresh paint! Not battle weathered yet! It'll be dirty for the next battle :)

Just when I thought I knew everything about Star Wars. FWIW, the TIEs are a lighter color in ANH than in ESB and ROTJ.

Throwing this out there as well: there is an example of actual glare on the new ship right on the bow, and it is visibly different and more bright than the rest of the ship, further making the thing seem actually white.

Ambiguous answer, as usual. But, when someone (edit: one of the model-builders) refers to one of them as "that white star destroyer", that pretty much answers it for me.

I've always thought of them being as a light grey. However, I think this is the first one that has been shown in a direct light source on film I believe. Sooo....hmmm....give us more footage please :)

Actually, the original 4-foot VFX miniature of the ANH Star Destroyer is rather white than grey, I studied the model close-up for hours back during the 1988 Marin County Fair Lucasfilm Exhibit.

However, what's fairly new are - the lights!!!

Except for the stern engine nozzles the ANH model had no other lighting whatsoever. There is a short sequence in ESB that seems to suggest that, but this one just got the lighting matte of the (illuminated) ESB VFX model.

It can't be white. They're trying to be as accurate to the original movie as possible. Stormtrooper armor was made as accurate as possible, so they are going to make the Star Destroyers the same gray color.

Except the guy above you who has seen that actual model from ANH in real life who said it was white, and the pictures in Pablo's tweet above that show a white model as well?

They look pretty white to me, but coming from someone who used to have to mix paint at Lowes home improvement, there are WAY too many shades of white. I seem to recall one of the effects people mentioning they had issues when painting the Falcon for TFA, to get the right shade of gray.

Little different perspective. The bridge that is illuminated by a light source definitely looks white. Maybe it's just a new Destroyer fresh off the line and just hasn't been painted yet.

Why do they need to paint the outside of a starship in the vacuum of space?
