Would it be too early to make predictions?

In R1, there were two memorable quotes by Cassian Andor about his own background:

"I've been in this fight since I was six years old". I hope we get some flashbacks or full introductory scene with young Cassian.

"Is he a Jedi?" Sounded to me that he must have at least seen one in person. Hoping we could see a familiar Jedi next to him at some point.

Has anyone Diego Luna in anything, other then R1? Can he carry a show by himself (if necessary)?

+1 for Gareth Edwards being involved in this. It would boost my interest big time.
As far as I know, he's the lead in Narcos: Mexico, which is coming to Netflix next week. It's gonna be a good test for him. Personally, I haven't seen him in anything other than Rogue One yet, but I think he'll be fine, I'm not worried about his acting chops.

i've seen him in older stuff and in some of his mexican films. he's a solid actor, i think, if people will forgive him his accent. i do feel like he struggled a bit in Rogue One, but i think the more english filmmaking he does, the better he'll get. and doing tv series is the perfect proving ground for that. doesn't look like Narcos will help in that regard, though, since it looks like his character doesn't speak english on that show.

but i think of antonio banderas in his early days: his english was really super rough (to the point of nearly incomprehensible in Philadelphia) and he was having to learn all his lines phonetically because he didn't speak it. five years later he was a leading man.

Luna seems to have a jump start on that; he can actually speak the language. : D

While I'm MANY times more interested in this show than the likes of "The Mandalorian", I can't say that I'm actually excited for it.

I absolutely loved R1, and frankly hold it right up there with the best of the saga films, but I feel like it would've been better if it had just been left as a standalone, and here we're getting a "backstory to a backstory" about a "regular guy" of sorts that has no relation to, and no understanding of the Force...which is central in Star Wars lore, and more about a war and a guy fighting it. I felt that this same thing has happened with the new trilogy...we spent more time seeing the war than fleshing out the characters that made up the immediate story.

I know that that sounds a bit like I'm bemoaning it, and I don't mean to, but I feel like we're kind of getting away from "Star Wars" somewhat. That being said, I have little doubt about watching it...I'll give it a fair shake to see where it takes us, and how it presents itself.

I personally think (for me) that the only thing that would make me hurry home from work to watch it would be if there were some kind of contact with things like force users, or even contact with Jedi that were on the run from Order 66.

Like I said, I just feel like Disney/LFL seem to be straying off course, and to me, this begins to make SW seem...."ordinary", and the luster seems to be wearing off slightly.

Give me Jedi...Give me their backstory during the PT era or before.

I don't think you have anything to worry about in that respect. I firmly believe that there is a plan in place, and that they aren't just giving us some random shows about this 'n' that.

I know what you're waiting for.. it's the same thing that I and probably a great many of us are waiting for - a deep, rich and mystical lore filled Jedi/force story to get our teeth into. it's coming...

They could always film a cliff notes version of the comics kind of like how the first 20 or so Episodes of Dragonball Super is just a rehash of the DBS movies.

I'm kinda thinking this will take place before he meets K2-SO, for purely budgetary reasons. Am I right that doing K2 like they did in Rogue One would be pretty huge for a TV budget?

I'm with you on this Trevor. I love love love Rogue One. Probably watch it like once a month, that's how much I love it. I loved the novelization and the prequel book.

Having said that, why are we getting a series about Cassian? I know Diego Luna is a HUGE Star Wars fan, so this feels "convenient." I think LFL strayed off course in TLJ in that it should have had more training for Rey and more of a duel. I mean, lightsaber duels are part and parcel of what makes Star Wars different. Rogue One could have been the same, but with the Guardians of the Whills and then Vader at the end, it was still touching on what makes Star Wars what it is.... Solo, while I enjoyed it, I thought it was missing something and that something is of course, no Jedi. No force. No Sith.

I think they could have done a series on some Jedi who survived Order 66 and were being hunted. They could have done one on the Guardians of the Whills. All of this really does feel like there is no plan.

I'm not so sure. Sure, it involves mocap, but K2 is adroid and that gives VFX artists much greater leeway in terms of uncanny valley. Also, the only thing they need to trace are his limbs and eyes and animating these two things is way simpler that animating a human(oid) face. I think we can expect K2 to appear sometime during the show, maybe even from the get-go.

Cassian & K-2 "buddy cop" dynamic would be a huge added value. I guess they would announce it right away if that was the case, but maybe they don't know yet. It could still be on the table. The thing is, K-2 is a comedic character and if they're going for a dark-ish spy thriller, he may not fit. Technically speaking, adding him shouldn't be a problem. He's relatively easy to animate, as Pawek_13 pointed out, and they should be able to get Alan Tudyk to at least do the voice.

I'm not sure when does the comic book about how they met take place. If it's too close to RO, it could leave not enough space to maneuver with the story. And somehow I don't see them adapting the comic book as a part of the series.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I was not a huge fan of Casian in R1. It was a fine character and all, but there are so many characters they could bring to life that have never been on a screen at all. I guess I will remain optimistic, but I can see this going either way with the fickle fan base.

If this series includes Rebels (and RO) characters, Vader, Jedha, the creation of rebel squadrons, Imperial vision of the facts, stormtroopers, references to Jedi, kyber crystals, OT and a great connection with the worldbuilding like RO brillantly did, this could be so great.

I love Rogue One. Cassian Andor is an intriguing choice. We've seen he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty in service to the Rebellion. His role as an intelligence officer could lead to adventures all over the galaxy in all sorts of environments from seedy dives to decadent estates. Probably lots of new people and places with the potential for a few familiar cameos as well. Bring it on!

I'm also excited about this possibility. I'd set it up to ge a John Le Carre style Cold War spy series. That would be awesome.

Isn't it a bit late to create a new tv show for a co-star in a secondary Star Wars film that was released 3 years ago, and that character was killed off at its end?
    1 season tops.
