Veteran actor Nick Nolte has joined Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano in the cast of the first Star Wars live action series The Mandalorian. We had heard whispers about this weeks ago and it looks like those whispers turned out to be correct according to an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter.

Some Star Wars fans may not know this but Nick Nolte was one of the actors who auditioned for the role of Han Solo back in 1975, which as we know eventually went to Harrison Ford. Well it looks like Nolte is finally getting his chance to step into the galaxy far, far away 43 years later!

There are currently no details about what Nolte's involvement will be nor the type of character he is playing, just that he has been added to the cast of the Jon Favreau led series, which appears to be well into production. Here is a refresher of the premise of the series from director Jon Favreau:

We will keep you updated as always as more information surfaces about Nick Nolte's role in The Mandalorian, the legendary actor's long awaited entry into the Star Wars franchise.

Are Jedi in this? Could he be a Jedi, hiding in plain sight? Wishful thinking I know. More Jedi please.

Based on some of the characters he has played in the past, I'd be interested in seeing him play Doctor Cornelius Evazan (a.k.a. "Mutilator of Milvayne"). He's good at playing brilliant yet morally flawed characters with a bit of crazy sprinkled on top. With the other call-backs to bounty hunters and scoundrels of the OT and EU criminal underworlds in this series, I'd bet we'd see him, especially with how much he is being featured in the Doctor Aphra comics right now.

For fans who don't recognize the name, I'm posting the summary description from Wookieepedia:

(He) was a human male from the planet Alsakan who was a promising cosmetic surgeon until he became gripped by madness and began practicing "creative surgery" on his patients, leaving his victims horrifically disfigured. After information concerning his cruel medical experiments came to light, an encounter with a bounty hunter left his face hideously scarred. The Aqualish thug Ponda Baba rescued Evazan from the hunter, following which the two formed an uneasy partnership and began smuggling spice for the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure. Wanted men, Evazan assumed the alias of "Roofoo," while Baba became known as Sawkee. In the Holy City on Jedha, the fugitive cyborgist used his ghastly medical techniques to produce an order of servants known as the Decraniated.

Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, Evazan and Baba were patrons in the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine. When a drunk Baba decided to pick a fight with a local farmboy named Luke Skywalker, Evazan quickly escalated the conflict, causing Skywalker's guardian, a hermit named Obi-Wan Kenobi, to intervene. The pirates drew their blaster pistols on the wizened man—in secret one of the few remaining Jedi Masters—but Kenobi used his lightsaber to slash Evazan across the chest and sever Baba's right arm before they could fire. Evazan tried to use his medical training to reattach Baba's arm but failed, nearly killing the Aqualish in the process.
