No Hux...

Absolutely delighted there was no Hux, Im personally I hope he is killed of in the first few mins of the film, or ideally the crawl, or just not mentioned at all. I really can't stand his character, he's just too slapstick I think Domhnall Gleeson is a great actor, but he was more menacing and pulled less silly faces in Peter Rabbit then he did in The Last Jedi.

 

It would be really anti-climatic to have him be killed off in the time jump. And by anti-climatic I mean "awful". Of course if Palpatine actually comes back he might just logistically be squeezed out. And by squeezed out I mean force choked.

 

Well, he hasn't been in most of the other trailers either, so I don't think that this means anything.

 

I like Hux and I hope he will have a important role in the final chapter.

PS. Even Phasma can come back, I think. They discuss about Phasma during the panel. So, I wont discard her either.

 

I am still stuck between Palpatine being back as a hologram or back IRL. Because the more they open this door the more people could / should ask, "well why not bring xyz character back too". I mean if Palps is back, why not bring back Snoke and Phasma? Why not Luke as well? In the famous words uttered in the original film version of "Pet Semetary" - "sometimes dead is better."

 

Definitely okay with Snoke, but Phasma? She was not even force sensitive!

 

It's a teaser and for a teaser trailer it's quite usual to just focus on the heroes and the protagonists. Look at the TROS teaser and you pretty much notice that the light side dominates. Even Kylo is just in it for a few seconds.

No. Hux is Kylo's rival and he's definitely needed for IX. Killing him of that early would be really stupid.

his master learned how to stop people from dying, i.e. Palpatine saved himself. Maybe by cloning or maybe he was a just force projection in the throne room in ROTJ or some other way we have yet to learn about.

 

Disagree, if the story needs conflict for Kylo they can use infighting with the Knights of Ren or Palpatine/Sidious or whoever Richard E Grants Character is. Hux is a slaptstick/comedy character, after all the silly faces he pulls the guys a joke, if they tried to set up conflict between Kylo and Hux it would take some pretty special writing and acting for me to buy into. its would be much better and easier to start fresh then try and rebuild Hux to be a serious character.

 

I think is what a teaser is about.
The interesting part is we have been blown away with this teaser and we really have seen nothing (and we don't know nothing) about a great number of characters: Zorii, Hux, Jannah, Connix, Maz, Richard E. Grant character, Dominic Monaghan character...

 

But this would all be new (or newly introduced) characters... Why not work with the characters you already got? And I actually do think Hux will use KOR and/or Palpatine against Kylo.

 

becuase Hux is a slapstick comedy character who pulls silly faces, you'd have to do a hell of a lot of character development and really change the acting style to make him feel like a rival to BB-9E never mind use Palapatine against anyone. You may as well start from scratch it would be easier as it doesn't have the bagage of been the silly face man from the last film.

 

Hux wasn't a slapstick comedy character in TFA which was directed and written by JJ Abrams and now guess who is coming back for IX. Exactly, JJ Abrams. So, maybe you should stop "judging a book without reading it".

Yes, Rian Johnson definitely didn't do Hux well, but there is one thing I really liked and JJ should build on it. => Hux trying to get betray Kylo and get rid off him.

 

Right. We didn't see Jannah, Keri Russell's character, Rose, Maz, Connix, Dominic Managhan's character or Richard E. Grant's character (that we know of). (Or Matt Smith??) There are probably more I'm not even thinking of. Especially teasers don't show everyone in the movie.

I'm guessing when trailers/promos show a little more in the way of plot points, we'll see Hux.

in the EU, the First Order absolutely hates Palpatine. Hux may yet try to overthrow Ren early in the film, but ultimately (if he survives that), the whole galaxy could come together to put down the former Emperor once and for all.

 

But episode 8 did happen, and Johnson made Hux into a comedy slapstick character, who pulled silly faces and was the but of the joke, one moment wear he may of portrayed Kylo isn't enough to erase that he has been made into a slapstick character.

You have knew characters who are going to need screen time, spend the run time on then rather then trying to turn the guy who pulls silly faces into a legitimate threat or rival.

Each to their own, but personally Im hope he dies sharpish and is forgotten. Really couldn't stand his character in last jedi made me feel like i was watching a spoof movie.

 

trailer missing a lot of characters so means nothing that is doesnt show Hux. Hell the 1st minute is only Rey.

I agree Hux should be killed off, but for other reasons. Hux was a terrible character to begin with and his speech in TFA is definetely the worst moment in that movie. RJ should have killed him off in TLJ, instead he made him comic relief which was ok for that particular movie I guess. The character in TFA is just wrong for Star Wars. Why would somebody in his 20's, who seem to lack anything out of the ordinary, climb the ranks in an organization like the first order? If a military leader was necessary to have a big part in Star Wars, then make him a strategic genius or something.
