Now that you have seen R1 do you have faith in more stand alone movies?

I think everyone can say everything here in the Cantina if its not bashing anyone others opinion in a rude way. :)

Sure. I am 44. My mom took me to see ANH in 1977 when I was 5 years old. SW has been a part of my life ever since. My favorites are ANH and ESB. Also, I really like TFA.

And I am not opposed to other spin off movies. I would love to see something (even a trilogy) about the birth of the Sith. I do believe spin off movies could be great. I just don't think R1 really did it for me, personally, in the long run, although I do understand why others love it and as I said I really enjoyed watching it the first time.

What weirded me out was the names appearing below new worlds... it reminded me of GOTG. They also threw a lot of new worlds very fast at us!

Something felt off to me about it too, but in a good way. To me it feels like the difference between watching a fairytale and watching a documentary.... this felt more on the documentary side of things when compared to TFA. I feel similarly about it though, the film certainly didn't make the same impression on me as TFA did.

I was shocked when the Collider guys said that they liked this film better... perhaps victims to their own excitement. I think TFA will stand the test of time... not to say Rogue One won't but I think seeing Vader killing rebels took us all by surprise a bit/ I certainly got a bit too excited by that.

One thing that bugs me on my 2nd viewing is that I'm running out of things to look for... the camera usually focuses on side attractions so I feel like I didn't catch much more on the 2nd viewing... while in TFA they leave a lot for you to look for.

Yeah i agree, so many SW fans i talk to are worried about the Solo movie and i can understand why.. replacing Ford is a VERY big thing... if they stuff this up it could be bad news for any more stand alone movies..
But on the other hand, I feel an Obi movie is the right move, Ewan is at the right age and the story could be amazing if they write it right.

Rogue One actually gives me plenty of hope for other Star Wars standalone movies. I personally loved it, but whether others like it or not, it should be easy to see from the tone and execution of the film that they are dedicated to expanding the universe and trying new things(even if the film may have been a bit heavy on the fan service at points).

If you're a fan who loves seeing the Star Wars universe from different angles and perspectives, then Rogue One should be a good sign(even if the film itself didn't wow you). If you're a fan who wants the standalone films to feel more like the Saga films though, these films may not be for you. Either perspective is totally fine as far as I'm concerned, but just know what you're getting into with the standalone movies. As a fan of the EU and the new Canon stories in other forms of media, films like Rogue One are exactly what I want to see from the standalone films.

I'm not so much excited about Han Solo spinoff, BUT if they do it properly and even more different than R1, then it could work for me.
I would like to see more desolate planets, more places like Jedda city, Mos Eisley. More dark corners of the galaxy. I think that Han Solo spinoff is ideal for that.
If they make a movie that will be more focused on story, and less on explosions - that could be something special.
R1 is great but far from perfect. But it showed that Disney means business and that they are doing a mighty good job so far.

After seeing Rogue One, I just think the standalone films are not for me. I'm a Saga guy, or better yet I'm a Luke, Leia and Han guy, so 8 & 9 are all I really care about it. In saying that, I don't have a problem with the Standalone films being made, because obviously there is an audience for them out there.

i judge everything on its own merits. i wasn't that excited about R1, but i think it will grow on me--there's lots of good stuff in it and i like the aesthetic and i like what they were going for. on those levels alone, i am happy with what we got and would welcome more of this.

doesn't mean i'm okay with a Han Solo movie, though. and it doesn't have any impact one way or another on the ST for me.

Not enough time to get attached to characters. Id love to have seen Jyn and Saw interactions from her childhood on up. Need Trilogies! 3 Per year though lol.

Mr. Edwards is welcome back in the director's chair at LFL, IMHO. I never really considered the notion that they would be bad films.. I just never considered the notion that they could be GREAT films.. I do now..
I guess on a whole I did think that Disney/LFL might be having.... ..what you might call accidental success. This film was no accident, tho, and now I wonder if it's still too early to call their handling of Star Wars an overall success. Have they been perfect? No, they've actually made some of the same mistakes Lucas made. But overall they have treated this universe with a respect a reverence to which Lucas would have said: "They're just movies."

BTW, I'm all on board for that TOR film.(duel)

I've seen it twice and I feel ya. I enjoyed the film a lot, but I think that the very different tone, and possibly the crappy score makes it feel different from the others.

I liked the characters in TFA more, but liked the story of RO better. Ultimately I think RO lacked the sense of wonder that TFA had.

My opinion is that all the hysterical reaction based on nothing but rumours all proved to be pretty unfounded. Rogue One is getting universal praise. IMO It's a great film, in my SW top 3.

I never lost faith in the concept of standalone films - I just know not to pass judgement until I'm fully informed of the facts. All the hysteria about Disney killing the franchise, about reshoots (LOL! what film doesn't have reshoots?) all proved to be total Chicken Little nonsense.

Rogue One is interesting as a standalone film. It's definitely its own story, but it relies very heavily on other Star Wars stories as well.

So, I like Stand alone films, as long as they tie in nicely with the overarching Star Wars narrative. Rogue One did an absolutely phenomenal job at that. I don't know exactly where the line is drawn between "series" and "cinematic universe", but with so many good stand alone films, Star Wars might very well be the first cinematic universe to rival Marvel.
