All they need to show is Qui-Gon Jinn showing Obiwan how to sit on a log as a ghost.

I never took any real stock in the rumors. What would the story be? Just a forced fan service movie. Yeah I can think of a cool story based on Yojimbo, but it wouldn't be a story a Jedi would tell. :D anyways... yeah.. there wasn't any real hard evidence for an Obi wan movie, just like with the alleged Boba Fett movie that was supposed to come out.
If it happens... COOL! but I'm not giving my hopes up.

Surely with the high demand by the fans to see this movie made, disney would not pass up the opportunity? Everyone speaks of "fan service", well fans are most definitley asking for this, so i Ewan Mcgregor!

Not all risks are created equal. A risk that poses little upside is a terrible risk to take.

If you want to take a big risk by taking the SW universe or story telling in a completely new direction, that’s fine because there s upside there. It could still blow up in your face but at least there is a payoff to chase.

I hope the Obi-Wan movie will get made. I think it has great potential.

As I saw yet another announcement today concerning a new Star Wars series in development, I was once again amazed.

To me, it's a bit like Christmas, and there's now real reason to expect a bunch of new cinematic Star Wars gifts =)

And, just like Christmas, one might tend to hope at least one of the "gifts" is something you asked for... or at least can use =)

I assume that they will release their future plans after they see how well the SOLO movie goes. SW is at a m"make it or break it" point as far as some of the future projects go so I think they'll decide how to move forward after SOLO.

I firmly disagree here. $4B between 3 movies more or less gives Lucasfilm a blank check to do whatever for a few movies.

I meant the direction as far as stories about OT characters go. Young Luke/Obi Wan/Boba Fett... I can imagine that if SOLO underperforms they will probably focus more on a Snoke movie or something like this.

...Does anyone actually want this, though? Ask yourself that from a commercial standpoint. Canon purists might, sure, but do you really think that people are willing to get so excited about a more shortsighted and creepier version of Palpatine that it would justify Lucasfilm spending upwards of $100M on a movie?

Movies about Obi-Wan and Boba Fett are inherently more commercial because they're more high-concept by nature, and they're about established characters, thus making said hypothetical projects easier to sell. How Solo does won't affect them.

I'm not sure why you feel so confident to say that the success of the SOLO movie won't affect future movies based on OT characters in any way. Think of it this way. SOLO is probably one of the safest choices they could have made as he is one of the most beloved and famous OT characters. If Han Solo can't sell a movie then why should Obi Wan or Boba Fett? I'm pretty sure there's a reasonw hy Disney is holding back on the official announcement of further standalone movie projects. They first want to see how SOLO plays out before the commit to future projects centered arround OT characters. As for Snoke, I mentioned him because of the rumour posted on SWNN. If they want to do an origin story in form of a book they could easily make a movie instead focused on the unknown regions. They could use this to set up Rian's new trilogy which could share the same timeline or to bring Ezra/Thrawn/Ashoka to the silver screen (after the Rrebels finale I assume they are all in the unknown regions). My point is that I don't see why you are so confident that SOLO has no impact on teh direction Diseny will be going in the future. They promised to announce future projects months ago but they didn't. I wonder why.

Of the characters on that list, Han Solo is arguably the hardest to sell on the account of Harrison Ford not reprising the role. However, Lucasfilm is simply that confident in Lawrence Kasdan's script.

Also: remember that a Boba Fett movie was greenlit for Josh Trank to direct until he got fired over the Fant4stic debacle. A proof-of-concept teaser was ready for it and everything. And it was going to hit before Solo. A later report suggests that they're still making it, even if it isn't a priority for them right now. (The movie for Obi-Wan will apparently come first.)
Because this is Star Wars. If they were concerned about the future of this franchise, then they wouldn't have officially announced - at *least* - five movies in advance, even in response to their most divisive release under the Disney banner.

Solo would have to do Pluto Nash numbers in order for them to even think about cancelling any of their planned projects. And that just isn't happening.
Because, as abundantly clear as it is now, they're having problems picking the right directors for these projects - the "let's hire some up-and-coming talent" approach really hasn't worked for them aside from getting J. J. Abrams and Rian Johnson (and debatably Gareth Edwards, who they had problems with but he was a team player for the reshoots). And they're not going to announce projects until they have a creative team - or at least part of a creative team - locked. This is why we've heard that RJ and D&D are working on movies, but we don't know what they'll be about. They already trust RJ in the director's chair and D&D are only producing while they spend a while looking for directors ready to handle their movies.

I really like your post, as you very rightfully described it - it is best to have new characters but there is no enough time to fully develop them within a single movie. I really enjoyed Han Solo movie and I definitely want to see Qi'Ra again, and Lando, and some new droids and of course the millennium falcon, I just can't get enough of this old junk :D

We might get a look at some of these characters in Obi-Wan, but for some reason I can see them much more likely appearing in the Cassian Andor series.

Krayt Dragon plzz :D. I love it when 3PO is standing by the Krayt Dragon skeleton on the dune sea and when OB1 scares off the Tuskins with the Krayt Dragon scream. We got the ice cream maker in Mando. Give us Krayt Dragons plz.

All of a sudden lots of twitter buzzing that Kenobi series is dead.

It is the one I am interested in the least, still this would seem really odd. After all the time they spent on it and lined up people, chose director, etc. etc. It just seems odd that it would happen.

This was the one I was most interested in. I love Obi Wan. But even if I wasn't, this would give me major major major concerns about the leadership over at LFL and Disney. Like WTF is going on? They had scripts. They had a director. If I remember correctly it was supposed to start filming in Feb./March (edit: I just saw it was slated to start filming in the summer) And they cancel it NOW???? I already had some concerns about them and what they did with the ST, the record of hiring and firing directors... Now this?

Maybe the scripts are not what they want them to be.
Maybe Ewan doesnt want to do it unless they rewrite them. who knows.

They had the scripts done when they announced it at D23 or whatever in August. Ewan has been WANTING to do this for years. By his own admission. They have a director: Deborah Chow, who did two of the best episodes of The Mandalorian, episode 2 and 7. This is a no brainer man.

What does "Twitter buzzing" mean? Who said this? What evidence was given? Is there any more to this? I don't think we should worry about it quite yet without some more info.
