Use this thread to discuss the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi show. This is a spoiler thread, so everything goes. Enjoy!

I will return later to write more, but I'll just shortly say now that physically it hurt to see Obi-Wan in this condition. Ewan ia, as always, fantastic. The mannerism and voice modulation are significantly closer to Alec Guinness. I LOVED the reason he left Tatooine, because it was my biggest fear - that it would be too trivial. Leia is a spitfire. Reva has an expiring date and not because she shanked the Grand Inquisitor (he's not dead, we know how he died).

First episode, a amazing intro for the series, even the Flea scenes, that wasn't that incredible, the other parts of the episode works amazing.

    10/10

The second episode is really good, not great like the first one, but shows what will come next.

I loved it but would like to have seen them use some of the camel in the desert time for additional character development, especially Reva. Need to know why Ben is her Moby Dick.

    Wow. Overwhelmed.

honestly need time to process. It’s like, we’re seeing all these things we’ve only imagined before. I haven’t fully absorbed the fact that they’re real now.

I had maybe one or two MINOR quibbles, but all in all I truly enjoyed these two episodes. I'd give them a solid A.

I was lucky enough to see this last night at the Celebration premiere and being part of that was amazing. Seeing Ewan, Hayden, Moses & Rupert in person was great and they all appeared to genuinely appreciate the excitement from the crowd. Loved the episodes and can't wait to see more.

That's cool. I saw the thing on YouTube with Hayden and Ewan, and I loved seeing Hayden get some love. Dude took a lot of crap from reviewers/media types back in the day. Happy as heck to see him back.

I really loved these first two episodes. Masterfully written, masterfully shot, and very well acted.

    IMHO...

    Part 1 - 10/10
Prologue - Recap: They spent SO much time on Qui-Gon Jinn, even more than on Anakin, which virtually guarantees that Liam Neeson is in the show as a force ghost, despite stubborn denials.

Leia's stand-in trick was a nice callback to Padmé and her handmaidens identity trick.
(Slight issue with Leia's English, which doesn't line up with Carrie's. But then again, OT Leia's English was all over the place, so what do I know)

    Teeka is lovely.

The Nari subplot is great writing to establish the stakes.

Owen is very protective of Luke, freaking out the moment Luke gets out of sight. Very heart-warming.

Reva's plot to drive out Kenobi was well-written and executed.
(Slight issue here with the actual chase and capture scene, which was less than believable, but the kid is little so I shan't be a butt about it)

Bail Organa is perfect throughout. His plea is so heartfelt.

    Part 2 - 9/10
Leia is perfect in this episode. How she fearlessly deals with every problem coming her way, often failing (which is important to establish stakes and drama), and how she figures out that she's bait for catching Kenobi. Great stuff. Also, her conversations with Kenobi, about Padmé and everything is tear-jerking.

The writing here was slightly convenient, for instance with the spice sample Kenobi gets, but all right. SW writing is nothing if not convenient, heh heh.

Haja Estree is a great rogue character. I love everything about him and how he is utilized. And his self-sacrifice in the end to stall Reva actually saves the day.
(I'm looking forward to him coming back, possibly as another bait to draw Kenobi out in the open?)

The Kenobi-forced-to-rediscover-his-Force is a well-tried trope in Star Wars, but it works great. Especially with Leia's insistence earlier that Kenobi makes her float to prove he's really a Jedi. Great stuff. Sometimes, simple really is the best way of doing things. Also cool how they foreshadow Kenobi getting back in the swing of things with all the hesitating to pick up the lightsaber scenes. Very cool.

Reva stalking Kenobi in the dark, taunting him, is reminiscent of Vader doing the same to Luke under the Emperor's throne stage thingy in RotJ. Great execution!

I tried to skip anything here that references Episode II since I've only watched Episode I but.....WOW.

I was never a big PT fan BUT this first episode was incredible. Even though it wasn't action-packed by any stretch of the imagination, it did an amazing job of setting the stage and establishing the main characters for the series. You could tell in the first five minutes that Debra Chow was going to be taking very good care of us. Even though you'd think there was nothing left about Tattooine that would be compelling at this point (e.g. we've all been there and done that) every scene was a work of art. You'd have thought you were watching a feature film instead of a TV show.

The casting of Little Leia was absolutely, positively PERFECT. The show couldn't have found a young actress with better 'spunk.' :)

I also have to give major props to Ewan McGregor. He did an excellent job of presenting a beaten man with a tortured soul. What I found particularly compelling on first viewing was that even when he finally agrees to help find Leia, it's not presented as a trumpet-fanfare moment. As the Third Sister said, it's presented as a Jedi being unable to resist the Jedi Code.

With TBoBF, I was unsure after Episode One what the quality level was going to be for the rest of the series (I ended up loving it despite its flaws.) But Debra Chow's first Obi-wan episode literally smacked me in face with a "yeah, we're in for one hell of ride" feeling.

Oops -- one more thing: Owen has balls of steel!!! :)

I really enjoyed the first two episodes. The first did a fantastic job of setting the tone and the stakes. The second was a bit of detective Obi-Wan from AOTC, which I liked. I got a little antsy under Obi-Wan running around yelling "Leia!" especially with his face uncovered for all the bounty hunters in the city to see, but OK...

The sets and everything look so good! There are a few not-so-great views, but overall, feature-film quality, to my mind.

The casting of Leia is very, very good. And the writing for her--what a little firecracker! (On a side note, I wish the actress could run. We'll say it's because she's not allowed to run as a princess. Yes, that's it.) Obi-Wan going to rescue Leia was the only reason I would accept for Obi-Wan to leave Luke. Besides, he's taking the danger with him, really.

I feel a bit sorry for Luke, to be honest, not getting to grow up beside his twin. I'm so glad Owen was the wall of protection Luke needed though. His standoff with Reva was great! Reva herself is great. I can feel her anger and ambition in every scene she's in.

The farm girl in me is disturbed that Obi-Wan never unsaddles his eopie. I know you are trying your best, Obi-Wan, and you feed him well, but he has other needs too!

I was so psyched to see Tem's cameo! Obi-Wan's reaction there was fantastic, considering Order 66 and all. (Of course there's the side story there of the fate of the clones ten years down the road... Makes me anticipate Bad Batch coming hopefully this fall.)

Ewan is a joy to watch so far. Such a worthy successor to Alec Guinness.

Anyway, I need to process and rewatch!!

This is how you do a proper Star Wars series. Finally a clear main protagonist and an actual plot to follow.

    Episode 1:
Great pilot. I wanted an broken and desperated Obi-Wan. I wanted to see his daily life. Arguments with Uncle Owen. Obi-Wan caring only about Luke, etc. I got all of this.
    9/10

    Episode 2:
This episode was different compared to the first. It was more action oriented. Which is a good thing, because there was a much needed calmness in episode 1.
    8/10

    Some general thoughts:
The series is very well directed and the visuals look nice. The acting is also very good, especiall Ewan's acting. You can feel with him.
Everyone else is also doing a fine job. The inquisitors are intimidating, Reva is believable impatient and little Leia is cute and snappy.
The only "bad" thing so far: the two chase scenes with Leia. They are rather slow and kinda dumb. You could easily catch this little girl. It kinda reminded me of that speeder chase from TBOBF.
That's it though. 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' seems to be a great addition to Star Wars.

Well done. I can't wait for episode 3.

It really was the right decision to take the day off xD yes!!

I was wondering who's to care of her when Ewan is rescue mission now...

She's already my new favourite, I hope she gets plenty of time to shine in the following episodes too!

This is very much something for the fans and that's 100% fine. It's great so far. Obviously there's a great deal of nostalgia at play here, but how can there not be? I'm so happy this ended up as a series instead of a film. It gives the story more time to develop. I think it's kind of obvious that we'll see Qui-Gon at some point. Obi-Wan calling out for his old master is laying the groundwork for that. Overall, this is just great stuff. I'm happy for all the Star Wars fans out there.

Is the toy that Obi-Wan tried to give Luke (and Owen returned) the same one Luke plays with in ANH in the garage/oil bath scene?

    Yes!

    Damn, this show is awesome!
It’s hard to compare Rupert Friend to animated Inquisitor, but damn, if you move away from Rebels, his performance is awesome and I love his calm rage moments when his Dark Side eyes get more visible. I am completely buying it.

Fifth Brother looks a bit cosplay to me, but the acting makes for it.

Ewan is amazing. I agree on the chase scenes that they look weird and I got reminded of Book Of BF instantly.

Music is perfect and I love the new theme.

I can make a whole post how awesome this show is, after I literally forced myself to sit through Book Of Boba Fett, that felt like an afterthought and side story to Mandalorian, with questionable execution.

I sat throught the two episodes and was really sad that another episode comes next week, because I want more.
Sure, it’s helluva fan service for sure, but this is how it’s done!

PS: I was a bit afraid that Leia won’t work but the actress is perfect and instantly vanquished my fear. I ate it all…

I guess after finishing this series, I won’t care for Andor at all. This will probably be the pinnacle of what they can tell in the series format!

Better than expected. The homeless veteran was a touch of realism there. Look at our own streets in the U.S. Use 'em and dump 'em.

Young Leia was very good. Predicting end scene like Kindergarten Cop where Ben falls onto the bed exhausted and says, "They're horrrrrible." Taking a line from Arnold.

Ep. 2 end scene was chilling. Hope they play Vader terrifyingly dark and nasty, filled with hate, anger and vengeance, with no soft spots at all.
