I think she sensed his emotions not thoughts. As Vader would say: Your emotions betray you.

If Reva was padawan in the Temple, like some fans think (not impossible, IMO), what I want to know is why does she hate Obi-Wan specifically so much? Because he didn't save them? What about other 10.000 Jedi who died or weren't there? The way Ingram plays her, it seems very, very much personal.

Also, I feel this fandom is getting so spoiled that we are becoming really annoying. Like, half of this thread is either nitpicking or simply plain fault finding after two episodes like serialized narration was invented last month. It's no wonder Filoni had to comment on Grand Inquisitor "controversy" . Sometimes, Jedi way is really useful. Let it go.

Because she's since been indoctrinated and groomed by the Emperor/Vader. Or "turned to the dark side" as it's better known.

Why did Anakin decide he hated all the Jedi and agree to slaughter them?

It's possible that she only sees Obi Wan as a means to an end in getting favour with Vader/Palpatine.

But he might be the chosen one who brings balance to the force. While all the existing Jedi won't have any chance against The Sith and their Inqusitors, a trained Luke may have. And the strongest Jedi of all (Anakin) is thought to be dead. So it's better for any Jedi to stop being a Jedi.

He didn't say the time of the Jedi is over for now until the chosen one, whoever he may be, destroys the Sith (the destruction of the Sith is a Jedi thing is it not? Not just for anybody.) He said it's over. Period. Go and lead a normal life. Not go and stay hidden until it's safe to lead a Jedi life again.

The Jedi who gets killed after Obi-Wan tells him to give it up bragged to the inquisitors that their mission is impossible and they could never hunt down all the scattered Jedi survivors. The problem for the Jedi is that they have no leadership. The leaders who survived have decided to live in exile and not try to contact any other survivors.

I believe that she was one of the kids at the beginning. Otherwise what is the point of showing Order 66 again from another vantage point. I wouldnt be surprised that those kids spent some time with Anakin/Obi-Wan in training and know that Anakin was Obi-Wan padawan. I expect we will see more flashbacks. Three I can think of.

    1. The kids see Anakin taking out Jedi during Order 66, maybe even Padawans.
    2. Interaction between Obi-Wan, Anakin and Reva as a child.
    3. Reva sensing that Anakin and Vader are one and the same.
So she blames Obi-Wan for what became of Anakin and subsequently what happened to her.

Ah, in that case, enjoy it! I've just been dealing with these guys since 2014/2015, so I'm not really impressed with them anymore. The only two that I really liked were the Grand Inquisitor (Rebels) and Second Sister (Jedi: Fallen Order). If you like them, you can find them chronologically in Charles Soule's Vader run, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game, and Star Wars Rebels. (Release order would be: Rebels, Vader comic, JFO, Kenobi, Jedi Survivor next year)

There's also some indoctrination and torture involved.

Funny story we went to Washington DC when they had a Star Wars exhibit at the Smithsonian. My oldest would have been like 3-4 at the time. We were walking through and there was a diorama with a Dewback in it. A guy was chatting with his girlfriend I think and he said something like "oh look a dinosaur in Star Wars" my son spoke up and said "Thats not a dinosaur its a dewback". My wife still brings it up. Some things kids latch on to quickly. As the case of my son he still is latched onto Star Wars just like the rest of the family.

coming to this because I was curious and went back and rewatched. I wonder if she pieced some of it together because when she mentioned Vader, Obi-wan freezes. It’s possible at that point that his trauma over Order 66 and the fight on Mustafar made him lose his hold and she could sense it, because it’s when he pauses and then she pauses as if sensing his reaction. And she probably knew beforehand, but I wonder if it could be read that, since she picked up his unawareness that Vader was alive, she also sensed his thoughts toward Anakin and put 2 and 2 together, because she’s quiet for a moment, and plays it calmly as if she had known already.

it’s more likely that she found out beforehand in researching, but that’s a thought I had.

on her hatred of Kenobi..I haven’t fully landed on her outright hating him..yet. I think that’s one angle, and another is the idea of her being obsessed with finding him because he is one of the most elusive Jedi, and she believes finding him could bring her a lot of favor or respect from Vader, if not her fellow inquisitors. I get that she’s more ambitious…kinda what we might expect from someone likely raised more in the Dark than in the Light.

Okay, maybe I'm late to the party, but...

What's the deal with people thinking the Grand Inquisitor is dead? Like, it's pretty clear that he's gonna survive that, right? I mean, I've seen all sorts of wild conspiracy theories people have now involving "Grand Inquisitor" being a title (and conveniently placing it next on a very similar looking pau'an), that there's a clone of the GI, etc... but isn't the simplest solution simply that the blow wasn't fatal?

The only thing that I could potentially see other than that... and it's a long shot... is that there's something weird with this timeline in general, and that was a clue. For instance, I also think there's a potential issue with Vader's ANH line, assuming he and Kenobi meet in this series: "We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now, *I* am the master."

If they meet again, then that line is kinda strange. Admittedly, I used to think the line was "When last we met, I was but the learner", so I suppose this line does leave room for an additional encounter here, but it still feels like an odd thing for Vader to say this far into being a sith Lord. Wouldn't he be the "master" now?

So, is there any chance this is all just a fantastical story concocted by Kenobi to tell Luke, as he meditates in the desert? Perhaps he's accidentally tripping on the spice he got? Is this a stealth Star Wars Elseworlds re-boot? All seem very unlikely, and I'm afraid I'm making my own hackneyed conspiracy theories of my own now :p

Maybe that's a spoiler that only those that have seen Rebels are already aware of. I hadn't seen Rebels and assumed the GI was dead, till now.

Having said that I hadn't spent enough time with the GI to feel massively affected by his apparent death. It was the fact that Reva impaled him at all that was impressive.

Finally, it has arrived. I have watched both episodes twice now.
Three scenes that gave me an emotional response:
The opening with Order 66 and the Padawans at the temple. I immediately thought we were going to see Anakin stride into the room and cut them all down, so much so that I uttered "Oh no!" out loud.

When Obi is talking to Leia about how she reminds him of someone. The sadness of Padme's death washed over me all over again.

And when Reva tells Obi Wan that Anakin is still alive. The range of emotions that flit across his face are something to behold. Ewan made me feel them all.

    A great start IMO.

Maybe the Emperor orders Vader to face Obi-Wan to finish his training- you could call this his final test. Vader does so and faces Obi-Wan, still as a learner of the dark side. The next time they meet (in ANH), Vader is now a master.

To be fair to the actress, Reva was presented to us as an ambitious woman with a not-so-subtle agenda. I thought the actress gave the character a dramatic flair. There’s not a lot of nuance to her character — at least at this point — but you could have said the same thing about Mott Gideon early on.

What I’ve found interesting is that women fans I know and female YouTube reactors to the show all appear to really like Reva and consider her a total ‘badass.’ The naysayers all tend to be men. Obviously I’m dealing in HUGE generalities here and I don’t believe there’s any intentional sexism involved in differing fan opinions on Reva, but it may speak to how men and women have different notions about what makes a kick-butt villain.

Not to mention we have only scratched the surface of the Reva character. We have only presented what she wants. We have yet been told her motivation nor who she is. Certainly that is coming. People need to be patient. Like people expect all the new characters come on screen and announce "I am W from X, I want Y and it is because of Z."

I’m supposing that the story is going to be consistent with its own themes and characterization. Where is the Obi-Wan character at mentally and emotionally? What’s that journey? How does that shape him? Where does he begin and where does he end within this series? How are his actions reflective of that? That’s my focus. I don't care about 'policies'. I'm talking about what makes sense for the character - his thoughts and feelings and how they manifest.
What Owen wants is for Obi-Wan to stay out of Luke’s life, period. Kenobi represents the outside world. The enticing prospect of something more, something larger. For Owen, the outside world is dangerous and threatening. He wants to instill that same fear into his nephew. To keep him safe. It doesn’t matter what Obi-Wan is selling. He’s a threat to that fearful mindset.

Again, that's the significance of the toy ship. "It's just a toy." "It's a lot more than that." It's a symbol of Luke leaving Owen's grasp and growing up. Luke will grow up and has to learn to take care of himself. However much he'd like to, Owen can't keep him safe forever and is unwilling to deal with that. It doesn't have anything to do with Jedi shenanigans. It's Owen being an overprotective parent.
Obi-Wan holds himself responsible for what happened to Anakin. He has no counterargument, because he agrees. He did fail his pupil. And he very well might fail Luke as a mentor too. It's reflective of his fear and doubt.

Owen has no concept of what it means to be a Jedi. All he knows is that Luke’s dad ran off to pursue some nonsense ideological dream, inspired by Obi-Wan, and it got him killed. “He didn't hold with your father's ideals. Thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved...He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn-fool idealistic crusade like your father did.”
The tone was intended to be silly, because of course you know what a character arc is and surely you’ve recognized that we’re seeing one develop right now. Obi-Wan is debilitated by his doubt and fear because of his failure with Anakin. That’s not an assumption. That’s right in the text.

From what’s been revealed so far, we can pretty well deduce that Kenobi is on a crash course with confronting the very figure who represents that massive regret: Anakin. How that confrontation is resolved will inevitably effect Obi-Wan’s overall outlook. He’ll likely end the series in a different mental/emotional state than where he began. Making an arc.

Of course it’s just a theory. I’m proposing that perhaps Obi-Wan’s stated motivations aren’t inconsistent, but instead are entirely supportive of the broader theming of this story - an artifact of his arc - an expression of his confliction over Anakin. Food for thought.
That’s absolutely OK. What I’m offering is an alternate perspective as a means of engaging in discussion. That perhaps you’ve made some leaps in logic that present as contradiction when, in reality, they’re actually not. It’s merely a consequence of your point of view. “You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.”

Because of your preconceived notions, you’ve made an assumption to the character’s intentions. But what if that preconception is false? You’re not willing to explore that possibility at all? Not even acknowledge it? Just label it “unreasonable”?

Keep in mind you are critiquing the second episode of a six-episode story. The early parts of the story that are unsatisfying to you because a beaten-down Obi-wan is not responding to the dangers around him as you would like will no doubt make his eventual return to his old Jedi ways all the more satisfying when the entire story has been told.
    THIS!!! ^^^^^^

Not only that, I have the feeling that by now Owen and Beru have come to realize they can't have children of their own!
(Otherwise Luke would have had a niece or cousin by the time we meet him in ANH.)

So Luke represents not only their only chance to raise a child together, but also the one they hope will take over their moisturefarm and take care of them when their old!

"Owen, he can't stay here forever. Most of his friends have gone. It means so much to him... Luke's just not a farmer, Owen. He has too much of his father in him." --Beru <3 <3 <3

There's a lot of GL in this part. GL's father wanted him to stay and run his stationery business. If he did, the big superstore office suppliers that were not around at the time would have buried him in the 80's.

Apologies, I hadn't even considered that could be considered a spoiler. It's too late for me to edit it now, but if a mod could put my whole comment under a spoiler tag, it'd be appreciated.
