You're right. I'm sorry. But his look pretty much screams "I dare you". Haha!

Exactly. That's what I dislike about her in this episode. She ist just one thing. No layers here.
But I actually pitched her as a protector and mother at the same time.

Clearly, we are not going to see eye to eye on this. It's all right, we don't have to.

I was hoping that episode 6 would find a way to clear up some of the issues with the previous episodes, but ultimately it couldn’t really do it.

It already didn’t make sense that Obi-Wan and Anakin would have a confrontation between III and IV, and it especially doesn’t make sense that Vader didn’t finish off Obi-wan when he had the chance. (Obi-wan also declined a chance to finish off Vader, although that one makes somewhat more sense.) It also doesn’t make sense that Vader would just forget about Obi-Wan for 10 years after the show. (The Palpatine cameo that attempted to explain this was cool, but frankly doesn’t make much sense since Vader is obviously still obsessed with revenge.) And it doesn’t make sense that Leia already met Obi-wan before ANH.

The other surprise appearance (at the end) was really cool, but it didn’t really fix any of these problems.

The moment we have waited decades for (Obi-wan’s realization that Anakin is alive) didn’t quite reach the level of dramatic tension it deserved.

I’m sorry, but some of the events in the series just gave me that same feeling of, “No, that didn’t happen” that I got from watching the ST.

    ^THIS^

That's exactly why its puerile to get peeved or riled up, no matter how the events transpired, even if they got what their head canon desired... foolish, and a waste of time... and they will justify it as pure criticisms... ANYWHO... I apologize for that...

The Homestead scenes fill a void left behind from AOTC, I still remember when Joel Edgerton was embarrassed on how short and brief his scenes were in AOTC. He told his family and friends he was in Star Wars, and he was shocked how brief of part he played in AOTC. I was excited as well to see more of the Homestead. The Homestead is my Bonanza (also my Little House on the Prairie, a show I watched as a child, its about family, hardship, and love) and Little Luke is Little Joe Cartwright for me, the youth that would grow into a great man. Even though, I didn't get exactly what I wanted, in the Homestead scenes I didn't let that ruin my enjoyment. ANH is my favorite, seeing more Owen and Beru, I can't articulate properly how overjoyed I was especially Beru. I've read allot of Owen Lars in the Star Wars comicbooks, finally got more Beru... a younger version than ANH, people change as they get older, more laid back... Luke on that island etc., :D

I entered this thread thinking this would be an episode that would satisfy the nitpickers because this one was, IMHO...
    P E R F E C T !

For what its worth, I thought the writers did a masterful job of entertaining us with an exciting Obi-wan Kenobi adventure that fit like a glove between the PTs and ANH. In fact, I thought the show sets up scenes in ANH to be more compelling now than they were back in 1977.

I was of the opinion that the Anakin-Obi-wan duel in Ep.5 ended without any need for them to meet again -- but I was thankfully dead wrong. Their Ep.6 duel was awesome in every way. I read somewhere here that the broken Vader mask didn't work for them. My reaction was the exact opposite---I thought it was an incredibly cool visual! Yeah, it was a repeat of the animated Ahsoka-Vader scene but that said, it's so much more dramatic to see that image live-action with Hayden. And for anyone who used to complain about Obi-wan's 'particular point of view' comment to Luke about Vader killing Anakin, this episode put that complaint to bed permanently as far as I'm concerned. Lastly, it was great to see Hayden's voice interspersed with JEJ's voice cutting in and out. Beautiful!

One last take on that scene: Again, some have complained about Obi-wan not killing Vader when he had the chance but, to me, that was a KEY moment that HAD to happen given the man and the Jedi that Obi-wan is. It was akin to Luke's refusal at the conclusion of TROJ. I'm no 'Jedi expert,' but it seems to me if there is 'a way' of the Jedi, that's it. It made for one of The Most Dramatic -- and well-acted -- Scenes in all of Star Wars. Well done, Ewan!

Kudos to everyone involved in the show. This TV episode merits comparisons with the best of SW feature films.

The complaint, as I understand, is that Obi-Wan is knowingly fudging the facts for Luke as a means of manipulation. Obi-Wan’s evil pupil, Darth Vader, certainly did not “betray and murder” Luke’s father in the strictest sense. This moment provides wonderful reinforcement for his perspective, but I doubt it would do much to change anyone’s protest about it.

What was it like back in 1977 when Star Wars came out? I'd love to hear the perspective of someone older than I am about that.

That's why I ended my take with "as far as I'm concerned." :)
I'd be happy to do that sometime. I was in college at the time and it was a movie event for a movie buff like none I'd ever experienced before.

Alderaan, peaceful, lovely, heavenly, Mcquarrie's images fully realized... I fear for her future... The Empire grows stronger... and bolder... if you ever need my help again, you know where to find me... lets hope that day never comes... Alderaan obliterated to rubble... ANH remains my favorite.

It was excellent. I would have liked to see Anakin shoot OBi-Wan down in a Star fighter battle before the confrontation. Other than that, it was really satisfying.

I was a little kid, but I remember that people were talking about it like it was some kind of marvel. I never saw it in theaters, but my sister bought the vinyl record of The Story of Star Wars, which I listened to a lot. So I knew the story without ever seeing the movie till it came out on VHS years later.

So much for “Obi-Wan once thought as you do” meaning that he’d tried to redeem him at some point. Unless . . . . . season 2?

I think that line could be interpreted in ways other than that. In the confrontation with Vader in this Episode, Obi-Wan seems to reach an acceptance that Anakin is gone, "Then my friend is truly dead." The final nail in the coffin of hope Obi-Wan had for his old friend.

Personally, I’ve always interpreted it to mean that Obi-Wan once had faith in Anakin, the good and noble Jedi. Just like Luke currently did. But, by the end, he believed him to be “only a master of evil”. Vader is saying “I proved Obi-Wan wrong and I’ll prove you wrong too”. Nothing about some implied mission of redemption.

But I know a lot of people have interpreted that line to be totally literal and this series would pay that off. This show appears to have made a definitive call about it though. And while I’m pleased, some might not be. But, hey, maybe some other creative will have a different read on it in the future :)

I think the claim that Obi-Wan once thought Anakin could be redeemed was already fulfilled by ROTS. Obi-Wan made it very clear that he wanted to get Anakin back on track and that his hope was not to fight him. Even after Anakin forces them to fight anyway, Obi-wan offers Anakin one final opportunity to surrender and strongly encourages him to take it.

I feel like the ROTJ line is fulfilled in ROTS when Obi-Wan flat out tells Anakin what he “once thought” of him.

“You are strong and wise, Anakin, and I am very proud of you. I have trained you since you were a small boy. I have taught you everything I know. And you have become a far greater Jedi than I could ever hope to be.”

That’s the person Luke thinks is still in there that Vader wants him to believe is dead. That’s the tension of the scene. Tracks perfectly well for me anyway.

Serious question, how was Vader able to switch to his "Vader voice" and then to his normal voice when the right side of his face was cut?

Best way to summarise my thoughts on this episode: Holy smokes, they really went there! I feel like such a spoiled Star Wars kid right now. This made my week!
