I love the look of this guy. I'm no collector, but I'm buying the Funko POP of this guy as soon as it comes out and placing it on top of my cubicle.

I get a sort of Han and Chewie vibe from him and Chirrut, or maybe Chewie and Old Ben, considering Chirrut's spirituality.

He looks like a loyal sidekick that will join the fray at his friend's side even if he's not 100% sure why.

Why do I want to say "Patience Grasshopper" when I see this guy?

Supposedly him and Chirrut are based on the same characters as R2-D2 and C-3PO were so I expect them to be a real dynamic duo, although their relationship will clearly be different, like Han (Chirrut) and Chewie (Baze) like @Laggamaroo said.

Yeah, they don't seem to be the comic relief. That should be the role of K-2SO. I like your idea

The peasants in The Hidden Fortress were comic, inept, squabbling and morally dubious: a long way from the battle hardened warriors we seem to be getting here. GL acknowledges the huge influence of Hidden Fortress on Star Wars (which was initially perceived as a sci-fi version of Hidden Fortress) In the final version of the film though, I see the droids as unquestionably based on the peasants, but there's also a little Han and Chewie in there too (smugglers motivated only by the gold) and even some of the interplay between Luke and Han (who's gonna try it on with the Princess?).

If Chirrut and Baze are indeed based on Tahei and Matashichi any resemblance will be down to their personal interplay: old friends, fiercely loyal to each other whilst outwardly seeming to be constantly squabbling.
