Agreed too bad we won't seem in action with one, still the stick will do.

Can I believe someone can take out a stormtrooper with a staff? Yes. We have already seen little ewoks use stones.

Can a blind person fight [a bunch of stormtroopers] without the use of the force? Nonsense, and that is my problem with this character if its true he is blind and not able to use a higher power.

Well, it is Hollywood after all. I guess most of the other Star Wars stuff doesn’t qualify also as being 100% realistic. But look up one of the cinematographic origins this character is based on, “Zatoichi”.

what I see that Chirrut is able to do blind, I really have a problem to accept that he is not force sensitve. These reactions are simply force abilities and force senses.

For all those people who have trouble believing that a blind person can fight without the Force, I give you just one example of a blind person doing amazing things in the real world where, unfortunately, there is no Force to help. Not to mention people like this:

I do agree that in our world there are people who can do incredible things even when they are blind. But in Star Wars world this always stands for force users, so I have some problems when they mix this now.

Cool video. If Yen's character only takes out a stormtrooper on a flat mat, that puts his blaster up to his neck, I will definitely change my mind.

But seriously, this character's abilities have to fall within the physics and power abilities that have been created in the Star Wars universe.

If he has cyborg augmented senses which let him see, like Luke's hand, that works.

If he is a new species of alien that looks "human" but can "see" with his brain or sound like a bat, that kinda works.

If he waves a wand and says "Avada Kedavra", that doesn't work because that is Harry Potter's universe.

If he is "human", as so far portrayed in Star Wars, is truly blind, has no augmentation, doesn't use the force to see, and a higher power is not somehow guiding him, that still doesn’t work for me with the battle images I have seen in the trailer.

I'm just hoping they throw me some kind of bone and its not just an aethistic nod to the PRoC.

(My original post was obviously about fighting stormtroopers which we have seen in the clips, so I edited it to clarify)

Asian do martial arts as their path to initiation. Every martial art is associated to an element.

    Judo is earth
    Aikido is water
    Archery is air
    Karate is wood

There is metal and fire too.

But martial arts are evolving as elements when you are at high grade, you do "katas". Katas are supposed to evolve you art into the fire element.

I'm just repeating what an asian friend told me because he was indeed practicing martial arts :D

Every people of the world are tied to an element.

    For caucasian it's fire.
    Africans it's water
    Native americans it's earth
    Asians it's air.

This is what you learn in alchemy. Either way you're abondant or struggling with this element.

this article has a very big spoiler, so you are warned (no joke):

"The film’s young director, Gareth Edwards definitely knew what he was getting when he brought on Yen, and allowed him to flesh out his Force-sensitive character how he saw fit (“it was my idea to make him blind,” Yen says proudly)."

so they're going to have him be someone that could have been a Jedi, only the Jedi are all gone? that's pretty neat, i guess!
