it's because they want to make sure the audience sees Ben Solo (guess it's finally canon that's his name, right?) as an irredeemable (albeit smokin' hot) villain.

 

Is he that "hot?" I know that my mother and my sister aren't the biggest test sample, but they both consider him to be ugly.

though he does seem to have a legion of scream female fans and was voted sexist man alive by People magazine at some point, i believe.
i don't think he's ugly ~ just sort of unexpected by hollywood standards.
and he's a good person, regardless of his physical looks--that's why women like him (kindness and vulnerability are attractive).

~ but that's not the point. hahahaha

 

so that happens... and he still feels a pull to the light side?

i already wanted him redeemed, but this is the icing on the cake for me.
if i'm reading that right.. it changes everything and will change a lot of people's opinions about Ben and what he has probably been through.

hotness can be measured in various ways.... but i think a movie star playing a bad boy star wars villain must add in a multiplier or 2 to that calculation. i've fallen for nearly every female that's ever been in any sci-fi film or tv show... alien.. blue.. whatever, they are all hot somehow. did i just admit that out loud? lol

 

i'm sure there's plenty of women who are attracted to the "bad boy" aspect of Kylo Ren, but i wonder if even more are attracted to the "lost boy" aspect of Kylo Ren. i know he (the character, not the actor) provokes a nurture response in me, which has nothing to do whatsoever with his looks.
okay, maybe the actor does too ~ he's kinda awkward and uncomfortable all the time.

That's why I posted it! With all this cuteness in the announcement and seeing that all officially released excerpts of the previous book and this one curiously ALL involve baby Ben (even though that is very small spec in the plot of the books) is very very telling if you ask me.
Repeatedly showing people that "Look, this guy is up for redemption. Look how much he is loved and damn it you are heartless if you don't wish him to be saved. He is a helpless wee baby who barely had a chance and it is a miracle really that he still feels the call to the light!
Some of you a year later are not getting it, so we are going to send subtle and not so subtle signs until you are mentally prepared."

Another example that deserves a share is official Star Wars tumblr (and maybe also twitter) recent post of this fanart of Kylo being cute and adorable with the telling caption "Pipiyori’s Star Wars Fan Art feels the call to the light".

As to Kylo Ren's hotness. I don't know if Adam Driver is hot or not (I think he has his gorgeous moments), but make no mistake, SW TPTB wanted Kylo to look hot. And judging from the reaction that elicited in a large portion of the female audience, they succeeded.

But Adam is no ugly duckling. Compared to Benedict Cumberbatch whose "je ne sais quoi" attractiveness is heaps, Adam is actually even slightly more standardly attractive, so there is that.

And I think the bad boy aspect is there, but the lost boy one is bigger. Coupled with a powerful dose of "dark enchanted lost prince" that happens to be a tall dark stranger who is the son of Han Solo and the mix is explosive.

hahaha ~ and, though i am sure the numbers are in the minority, they do sometimes succeed! : D

 

Kylo Ren's injuries were not that bad.

• A grazing cut to his upper right arm
• A very shallow stab to the left pectoral region (his upper chest)
• A shallow cut to his forehead and right cheek extending down to his neck

I feel like everyone thinks he is going to come back in TLJ half cyborg. At most I think he might have a different Helmet because the one he had in TFA was lost but I think even that is a maybe because there is no point in changing it besides "oh cool new helmet".

 

To my mind he did look severly injured.

 

while i agree his wounds were not cyborg-worthy, i agree with @RockyRoadHux: they were pretty extensive. he couldn't even get up.
a large part of that is the bowcaster wound, but Rey also cut his knees out, and i'd hardly call that carved up shoulder wound "shallow".



i don't think any of his injuries couldn't be easily patched with a bacta dip ~ the worst of it is that he'll sport a scar.
but he was mostly definitely cut up pretty good.

To me it looks like she just cut his cloak and not his knees at all. Overall I still think people are making his injuries from the fight with Rey to be worse then they really are.

A lot of that red is from his shirt glowing from being burnt by the lightsaber, the actually cut on his skin is just a grazing blow. The blaster bolt is by far his worse injury still nothing that could not be cured by a bacta dip.

 

it's probably a graze on his knees ~ enough to make him fall and then struggle to get back up.
though at that point in the fight everything is a struggle for him.
he's not on his death bed by any means (the worst of it is still the bowcaster).
i guess i'm just saying he does take a lot of punishment and keeps fighting--these aren't just kitten licks.
and yeah, no cyborg. hahahaha

 

Im not saying the injuries aren't bad it just seems like poeple think he is going to be a half cybord Vader Jr. in TLJ. He got his ass kicked but it wasnt Black Knight bad like people seems to be portraying it

 

So why then did Hux have to go ouside and pick him up?
