Atm, Rey has 0 interest in redeeming Kylo, and he has none to be redeemed.

But whole force bond thing deff addressed in IX.

 

That's the sad thing. Leia should have been the main focus of IX. But now... Maybe Hayden Christensen can step in for her as the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker. This would be great.

You may be right about that. But they are linked forever. So, Rey should have some interest in redeeming Kylo.

 

Welcome! I'm obsessed about Kylo, and when I'm obsessed about something, I tend to write a lot about them!

Kylo's relationship with Rey is interesting, she has certainly become his new "link to the light" with Leia gone. Adam and Daisy have great chemistry so who knows where it'll go? Mark Hamill has said as such.

I hope they don't go the death route, especially with JJ directing and him copying ROTJ, maybe life imprisonment? I don't feel if ReyxKylo can ever be a happy ship in canon.

Poe and Rey just met at the end of TLJ. It may be romantic, it may not be.

Agreed about characters.

Meeting his grandfather and having some sense kicked into him would be great for Kylo! I can just imagine his face if when Anakin's force ghost appears before him, he just punches him.

Thanks to TLJ we now know force ghosts can actually do that.

They never state in Last Jedi if their force bond is forever. Nice try.

Luke said no one is ever really lost. i'm holding him to that.

i'm going to lose sleep over this. it was horrific. i don't even know where to put it. : o (

i'm still processing. this is going to take some work. as the second installment, this was always going to end on a down/Dark note in some ways.
i see room for possibilities, though man it looks bleak at the moment.
that said, they want it to look bleak. it's up to us to have hope.

the FO is a disaster. Ren can't lead it effectively in his state.
you're exactly right: both Ren and Hux are a total mess by the end of this.
i have thoughts, but i need to think on them for a spell.

 

I expect Ren to be a heck of a lot more powerful in IX. The conflict has all but gone now and he isn’t going to be manipulated by Snoke.

 

What a performance. They have crafted a very believable character arc with Kylo and Luke. I am surprised how it went, his communication with Rey. But it all worked. It just worked.

It mainly worked because of Adam (and Kylo's eight pack deserves an honourable mention) but he's such an amazing actor I think he's the best they have on cast.

I think his hatred of his uncle, Luke drove him a lot. Thinking he was going to kill him, and learning about Vader at 23, really set him off the edge imo. As Luke said "the darkness was in his heart deeper than he thought", but Ren hadn't acted on it yet, he was still a holdout. Then the light fails him as outlined above (plus parents not thinking about him-Han running off to smuggle, and Leia focusing on her politics and then sending him off to Luke-dropping him like a hot potato.)

However, none of this excuses his evenly actions. Just trying to outline him.

As Snoke said, his resolve is "clear", just before he proceeds to murder him with Luke's sabre. I think it was Rey torutre and Snoke's reveal that he manipulated the force bond that set him off. As well as Snoke's earlier pushing around.

Kylo might be emotionally fraught with thinking his mother is dead throughout IX and the whole "caring for Rey with force bond but not enough to join her or really care about the light" thing, but his resolve is to be 100% dark by the end.

 

Now that snokes influence disappeared Anakin can finally show up and show Kylo the power of the dark side. Loneliness, pain, fear.

 

With his new power as Supreme Leader Ren, I fully expect him to take a few short breaks to Mustafar and Vader’s Castle...but more importantly, to Tatooine.

I think Anakin’s slavery as a child could still be something which opens Ben’s mind up: his idol, like Rey, was a nobody, with no father, traded around like nothing more than dirt.

 

I think it'd be great if IX sets up an arc for Kylo that ends with him meeting Anakin as a force ghost. Maybe at his moment of redemption or greatest darkness, as either a great hope for him or a great punishment. His idol looking down at him, and showing him he can't kill the past after all. As Luke says to Leia at the end of TLJ, "nobody is ever really gone".

Nice point about "being nobody."

 

Anakin needs to come back, show Ben the path to the light

Haha. Maybe Anakin can throw him around with the force like Kylo did with Hux at the end of TLJ, show him what it feels like.

Luke will annoy Kylo for the rest of his life. "Go back to the light, kid!" Kylo will go insane (even more as he already is at the end of TLJ).

Is it bad to feel happy about being right? At first I didn't believe Luke's version of the flashback, but as soon as Kylo's version came up I was like: Yep, that's it. The truth.

Ren and Hux should lead the FO together. But I don't think Ren is in a proper constitution to talk with right now...

 

Jar jar binks should harass Ren. Way more effective. He did get me to give up drugs!

Both Luke and Kylo lied in their flashbacks. Like Rashomon. Luke lied in his first by saying it was all Ben, then Kylo lied by saying he saw Luke try to strike him (it was either a lie or an unintentional warping of the scene). The truth is finally revealed in Luke's second one as a mere moment of weakness; he turned on his sabre and immediately moved to turn it off, and then Ben saw him and acted in self defence despite Luke trying to calm him down. Most tragic IMO, the worst of both worlds.

Ren should just give everything to Hux. He'll be happier and FO will fall apart quicker. Hux would do high-Larious things with it like the comic relief he is. Probably drive all the FO ships into a planet or something.

 

Basically it was a misunderstanding and Luke's change of mind. Kylo felt betrayed, but Luke's intentions behind it in a moment of weakness as you said. Though I'd like to have seen what Luke saw inside Ben's mind. But we kind of see his darkness in the TFA flashback.

 

Communication breakdown, and tragic misunderstanding doomed the Galaxy. Something else Kylo has in common with Anakin.

Seeing Snoke and his lifelong manipulation and corruption of Kylo was probably enough.

 

But it's better in the ST...somehow...because reasons...

 

ROTS is my fave PT film, it ranks even above RO in my opinion. It has some competent and decent moments and the actor for palpatine and his manipulation of Anakin is one of the films best things.
