Official Episode VIII - Kylo Ren Discussion Thread

Kylo will defeat Rey in this movie as she will be conflicted during the battle.
Luke might then be forced to step in and fight him.
Maybe.

 

I can definitely see that happening. Or she's still angry at him for everything that he did in TFA, and might do in this film, which he exploits to make her sloppy/reckless. It'd actually be a nice inversion of what happened in TFA, come to think of it.

That way, their "grudge match" would have more weight to it.

 

Defeat as in kill her or ...

 

Not kill her - just overpower her, disarm her, injure her maybe.
Just been saying in the Rey Thread how I don't think Luke will have given her much training (reluctant) and Kylo reveals Luke to be at blame for her parents deaths.
This will conflict her in battle and allow the more steely and evil Kylo (now he killed Han) to get the advantage.
I think Luke could come in and save her but Rey will go off on her own at the end and we won't know if she is good or evil until we see her in IX.

 

He won't kill her. That'd be like Vader killing Luke in ESB, or Dooku killing Anakin in AOTC. Not gonna happen. But perhaps maim/seriously injure her, yeah I can see that. Maybe kill someone that she really cares about, sure, etc.

 

Just by her looks, and the way she is as a character as far as we know, it would LOOK too out of jars red for her to become evil unless there's a loooong set up for her for that .

 

That's what I think this idea allows though - she will be her usual good self for most of the film albeit frustrated but then the revelation about her family will cause great conflict (she did skirt close to the Dark Side vs Kylo as well). Then come IX we will wonder what has happened to her.

 

He just got a slice on his face and a couple of burns. It isn't like he lost all of his limbs. If he were to transform into a machine for just that, then he really is crazy.

If Rey and Ben duel again, I believe Ben will defeat her by getting to her head. Not with the force, but throwing her off concentration. That's when he is able to one up her and possibly injure her.

 

Sort of like what Rey did to Ben in TFA ?

 

Sort of like that. I was thinking that he might tell her lies about Luke and the Resistance as they duel, and that would be the reason why he one ups her.

 

She questions it all after training with him for an unspecified amount of time ?

 

Well yeah why not? If he's keeping things from her (or she thinks that he is), or doing things that frustrate her, or Kylo knows some deep dark secret about Luke, then yeah that could totally happen. Heck there could be issues between her and Luke during training, and Kylo just pores fuel on the fire.

 

Luke and Ben will probably face off for a second when Luke ignites his saber to defend Rey from a deadly blow from Ben's saber and maybe Force pushes him away and Ben retreats knowing he is no match for his uncle. Maybe if we get an extended flashback scene where Ben and Luke get into a major duel after Ben and the other Knights kill the Padawans before leaving.

 

I also expect him to make a entrance as well if Rey's about to die.

 

i have been thinking about the Force bond and wondering whether that's going to play into the ST: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_bond

we have the sense that Kylo Ren and Rey are both unique Force users and they have already been mucking around in one another's heads. what are the chances that a connection will be (or already has been) created and that we'll see more of this sort of "weird" sort of telemetry develop?

we've already seen psychometry with the lightsaber.

 

Looking forward to the rematch. It will be interesting watching it unfold. So many things can happen...but I am still going to keep an open mind. I hope we'll see more and learn of the Knights of Ren...but also see if well honestly, of the posts I read just recently here now, I like what I am reading thus far. You all have cool ideas that could potentially make sense and perhaps be effective in ways of making the scene (when Rey and Kylo duel again) be more emotional that will have an impact on the grand scheme of things depending on where the story could go. So cool.

Ooh, this is a fun idea to play with.

With all the comments about VIII being 'weird', perhaps we could be seeing scenes where Ren and Rey learn stuff about each other through this bond that makes them and the audience understand them better, and see them in a different light?

If Rey has a special talent with the Force bond thing, it could potentially explain her steep learning curve after her Kylo interaction. Rey's ability to understand all the different languages could also perhaps be evidence of this ability maybe?

Also, if Kylo and Rey now have a strong Force bond, it could be interesting to to see how Kylo's dark trickles through the bond to affect Rey, and visa versa. If Rey has the stronger Force bonding talent, then maybe that could be useful to help drag Kylo back into the light? Could also potentially make Rey killing Kylo, or anyone killing Kylo, problematic for Rey?
