Rogue Stormtrooper, Lando's son, Padawan, New Luke Skywalker... etc.

All these have been associated with our new young male lead. As is with tradition, Star Wars movies have always had three main characters. It was Luke, Han, and Leia in the original trilogy. Now we have John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac.

I'm aware of Domnhall Gleeson, as well. However, reports are indicating that JB will fill a similar character arc to Luke Skywalker, so we can expect him to be the lead. Also reports are saying that he absolutely "owns" the movie. So, either his character is just a complete badass with a good story and/or he is in fact our new main male lead. Plus, he read for the "Thomas" role from the original Disney audition sides, who was said to be for the main male lead.

Daisy Ridley definitely seems to have Skywalker roots somewhere... and I highly doubt she's playing a damsel-in-distress. Her character audition involved her looking upon and holding a lightsaber for the first time. So, we'll probably finally get to see a badass female Jedi on the big screen in live-action.

Oscar Isaac has long been rumored to fill in as the new Han Solo-type. So I'm betting on him being a scoundrel. Plus, reports are pointing towards his character having possession of the Millennium Falcon, for whatever reason.

But, my main point of interest is John Boyega's character. This dude can hold a film and he definitely has a great presence. Just watch Attack the Block and you'll see...

But, man I'm really curious as to who the hell he could possibly be.

A rogue Stormtrooper turned Jedi! That sounds cool even just reading it.

At first I was a bit curious as to how they could cram so much story into one film. But after re-watching Ep. 4, it can definitely be done without either compromising or going way too overboard.

I'm also actually really excited to see him as the lead and a romantic interest for Ridley's character. It would be one of the most widely know interracial romances if it happens. It is indeed and interesting time to be a Star Wars fan.

So, who do you guys think his character is? And ultimately what could his overall arc be?

I really like the idea of Boyega being a rogue stormtrooper. And I like the idea of JJ making it clear that those people behind the armor are human. I can also see him making a comment about how hapless and incompetent the old stormtroopers were. I can see someone like Gwendoline Christie's character being this imperial "whip" that came in and really got strict with training the stormtroopers after recruiting them. So they are much more suped up and more of a threat in this one. Didn't I hear the stormtroopers had flamethrowers now and stuff?

Boyega can be this young kid that suddenly gets a conscious and says "Blast it" I'm not working for these evil nazi's. So he goes off and goes 360 from stormtrooper to eventual Jedi. It's actually a really funny arc.

If Boyega is really playing Lando's son you would think they could find it in their hearts to give Billie Dee Williams a small cameo. But what do I know?

I don't think he'll be the leading role, but sense the traitor character in him.

If Boyega is a stormtrooper, and if the rumor about stormtroopers carrying lightsabers are true then maybe he is more like an Imperial Knight, a force user other than sith or jedi. It may be that the empire and sith are separate and the empire have their own knights. After the Emperor's death there would likely be some sort of power grab by the empire remnants. If he does defect from the Empire then he would had some training in the force. What happens to all of the Emperors relics and collection of Darkside knowledge. You don't have to be sith to know the darkside.

Source? I haven't come across anything official that he's the lead?

I too hope for boyega, and it is cool that they might make it an interracial relationship, especially in these times where race is a very big topic.

Star Wars doesn't really adhere to "leads." Its always been an ensemble. I expect E7 to follow suit.

Agreed. But, when I say lead I mean who's story we are ultimately following. We are ultimately following Luke Skywalker's story arc in Ep. 4-6. For Ep. 1-3 it was Anakin.

Many claim it was Obi-wan, but Obi-wan was barely even in Episode I apart from the end when you look back at it.

Star Wars has traditionally followed the classic structure of a character who is unhappy with their current situation and is thrust into an adventure that leads them down a path they never imagined.

Obi-wan was already a Padawan in Ep. 1 and just a step away from being a full-fledged Jedi Knight at age 25. Anakin's story was basically like Luke's but down the much darker path.

John Boyega's character apparently begins as a bad guy on the side of the Empire as a Stormtrooper and eventually joins forces with Daisy Ridley and company ultimately leading him down the path of becoming a Jedi Knight. He begins as the exact opposite of both Anakin and Luke, but follows a similar story structure.

Where his path ultimately leads however is yet to be seen...

I see what you're saying. BUT still, I can't see Boyega being the character that's story is followed to the diminishing of all others. I think we'll see euqal doses of Daisy since she's the only actress who we know fairly surely has been signed for all 3 films.

I agree with you and understand. I think we're just dealing in semantics really.

He's Force sensitive but doesn't know it, let alone know what the Force is. He's always had special powers but never known how to use them. He's a Stormtrooper gone rogue because his morals have gotten the best of him and taken him away from his wicked commander, played by brienne of gOt game.

Aside from the opening shot of Luke's lightsaber, the film opens with Boyegas character escaping from a Star Destroyer as he is about to be turned over to Adam Drivers character, who may or may not be a Sith, but is aware of Boyegas special abilities. All Boyega knows is Drivers character is a bad dude, and he wants nothing to do with it. Drivers character is very high up in the Empire, so his justification for taking Boyega is not needed. There is actually a heated exchange between Driver and Gwendolyn, even though she despises Boyega.

When he escapes, Driver blames Gwendolyn and orders her to find him "or else". Almost all the resources Driver is allowed to use are directed toward finding Boyega. Driver does not realize he is chasing not only Boyega, but also Daisy Ridley who is the last apprentice of Skywalker(who he thought Boyega may have been and who he is really after), and they are leading him to Luke Skywalker. Driver figures this out 3/4 way through the film, and that's when the real bad guy decides to show up and help out now they know Luke Slywalker is in the mix. Found out last night Luke was captured by the Sith, escaped, and is in hiding. Everyone, good and bad, is looking for Luke

I think the most accurate thing about your post is Boyega as a rogue stormie.

It makes no sense that Luke's lightsaber is floating in space from the Bespin system when it fell DOWN. That idea is just some bad fanic IMO.

i hope he turns out to be some sort of lead, maybe he has a few special abilities (jedi like) but he's not sure what it is, or how to fully use it, or maybe he knows how to use some of it to perfection and that makes him a threat to the Empire?
my guess is that he will ultimately be the badass jedi hero to take over after Luke.. but then again I have this feeling of him being turned to a badass apprentice af Lukes, and then betray Luke.. and be our new epic sith.
