Really Han was no look shooting.
    Chewie Sniped Kylo.

Everyone should watch WW and TFA then compare the male leads with the female leads...
    Night and Day.

Pretty sure it was Attack The Block.

Lucas recommended him after Attack the Block.

Haven't seen WW. Have read articles saying Trevor overshadowed WW in her own film.

    Different story different characters.

JJ was impressed with Boyega in ATB for sure. But it was the screening of Imperial Dreams that reportedly helped lead to his decision to give Boyega the opportunity to try out for the role of Finn.

So they saw ATB and ID and thought you know what we should make this fantastic talent fail in most action scenes, do all the comedy and do very little drama....
A+ work from JJ, LK, KK and LF.

JB had to fly to get a character that gets served ****.

Lucas did not recommend him. I don't even think Lucas saw ATB in the first place. JJ saw ATB and invited Boyega to his production headquarters. He told Boyega he hoped they would work on a project one day. Imperial Dreams tipped the balance.

And by the way no two characters or two stories in different movies are ever going to be the same. Yet film fans have been making comparisons between completely different films for nearly a hundred years. So your attempt to use the "different story different characters" rebuttal to dismiss how Finn was handled compared to Steve Trevor fails. And btw Steve Trevor doesn't overshadow WW in her own film. Pine's performance may be better than Gadot's though.

Yeah but that is a function of Gal Gadot being more model then actress.
Not really a surprise Chris Pine can act circles around her.
Patty Jenkins greatest miracle was getting a good performance out of Gal Gadot.

    Watched WONDER WOMAN last night.
Steve Trevor and Finn have wildly different arcs.
    Comparing them is absolutely silly.

Pine's performance is the best in the flick. I found him to be the "life" of the movie giving a lot of depth for the other characters to play off of.
That said, you are very correct that it's the Wonder Woman show.

Steve Trevor in WW compares much more from an arc standpoint to Han Solo than Finn. Especially after the film leaves Themyscira.

Lots of articles over last 3 years. I think I read one suggesting Lucas went so far as to recommend Boyega.

I think i remember JJ hearing about Boyega from attack the block, and they met up a couple times before star wars was even on the cards and JJ always wanted to work with Boyega on something.

Never came across one that said that. And what role would Lucas have recommend for Boyega? Lucas' story focused on the children of Luke, Han and Leia.

As I said it's been years. If I find it I'll post it. If I remember context it was simply a comment of Lucas suggesting that John would be good for a part. And the film was about the next generation.

Yeah Lucas recommended John when casting was underway. JJ and him had met up and he mentioned boyega so Lucas said that he should cast him. After months of auditioning John along with others JJ finally agreed with George 111%

He is the new Han Solo in some ways but I'm referring to the TFA arc specifically.
    Mentor role etc.

Far beyond the realm of possibility in a Star Wars film that John Boyega's character could be Luke or Han's adopted son.

This is Mark and John trolling the fans as usual. I doubt very seriously that either one of them leaked anything but more obfuscation and planned misdirection. It will gin up conversation just as planned.

Remember when Boyega accidentally leaked that KMT was a new lead? Absolutely planned and absolutely effective in generating buzz.
