Kylo states something that how would he even know about? But after the cave and mirror scene. She just sees herself. Which is telling and quite metaphoric

Between the mirror and Kylo, I think they make it clear, her parents were Solos or Skywalkers. Maz said they weren't coming back, and so did Kylo. I don' think this is misdirection

Conversely I thought we were to understand that we'd get some origin tidbits on Finn. I don't recall seeing it/hearing it.

The kiss was all about after saving him and being a hero. Not that there is a romantic angle. She looks up to him.

It's how I interpreted it too, in fact Finn seems quite surprised by the gesture. I have seen people comparing Rose to Eponine from les Miserables and I also get this kind of vibe from the character.

I saw the books then too, and assumed she stole them as well. So perhaps she will train herself and then train younglings. There will be no Jedi Finn. He has been an average normal person 2 films in a row. Making the leap to Jedi would make no sense. But then again, the entire TLJ made no sense, so I guess maybe it's not off the table. It just wouldn't make any sense (in my mind, even though it was my preferred outcome)

This is why I must see it again. Rey stole the books! WOW

 

Without spoiling you know which part I'm talking about right? When he's walking around and Poe sees him.

 

Rey and Finn can still get together, but we have yet to see how Finn really feels about Rose. There was zero there even after the kiss because Rose was passed out. Clealy she likes Finn more then a friend or she would not kiss him, but how does Finn feel about her.

 

Stable-boy sounds like a slap in the face and nail in the coffin all in one. The things I've seen about Finn are worse than we expected, which is terrible considering we all pretty much expressed an almost total lack of optimism or expectation. I mean we don't even get awesome commando Finn.

 

I wanted this film to be good for everyone, I really did. And you know I'm a Finn fan, but I have to be realistic about the film. There are some visually gorgeous shots in this film, even though I hated it overall, it was framed beautifully both in some of the action sequences and the interpersonal dynamics. But the story itself was absolute trash. And the character handling was just amateurish. It's not just Finn who is handled badly in this film. Believe it or not, Rey was handled badly too. It's just that Finn and Luke were worse. I don't know how you salvage the trilogy from here. I have never hated a SW movie until now. I didn't even think it was possible.

 

Haven't seen it of course, but it seems Rian Johnson spent so much on Kylo's character that other people got shifted to the way side. I don't know if that is story telling or forcing your agenda upon the audience.
When watching the reviews and Finn is barely mentioned it speaks volumes about how much Finn impacts the story. I don't see how they could want my dollars when they can't even get me excited about a lead character.

 

Finn stature was absolutely lesser. You could argue his efficacy in the first film, but not stature, he was clearly a main character. He split time with KMT as the co leads of the Co-Resistance story. The strengthening of his character was nowhere to be found, not in any aspect. Not even as an every-man. He gets the obligatory act of courage at the end similar to TFA with less meaningful impact. I honestly didn't think that Finn had anywhere to go but up after TFA. Finn, Phasma, Luke, Rey... all handled badly. This was such a disappointment. The only thing that made me laugh was that

Rian somehow managed to screw over EVERY major shipping coming out of TFA. LOL. No Rey Skwaylker, No ReyRen, No Finn Jedi. Nobody got anything they wanted LOL

 

A white guy on Youtube is breaking down each character with their own video. He was very disappointed on how Rian Johnson handled Finn's character. He saw Finn as a lead in TFA, and was expecting more growth from his character. Rian Johnson is going to have to answer for a lot. It's becoming obvious he did nothing for Finn.
