SPECULATION Official Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) Discussion

They did already start shooting in the beginning of August -- does he mean that HE'S shooting mid september with them?

 

Over a year, ago, the canon short story "Blade Squadron," which focuses on a B-wing squadron during the Battle of Endor, was published in two issues of Star Wars Insider, split up into to parts. One character introduced in the story was Admiral Jhared Montferrat, an Imperial who commands the Star Destroyer Devastator.

Chris Trevas, the illustrator for "Blade Squadron," confirmed after the short story was published that Mads Mikkelsen, who has been cast in Rogue One, was used as inspiration for Montferrat's design, something that many have noticed recently due to "Blade Squadron"'s public release. As a result, many are beginning to think Mikkelsen may be portraying Montferrat in Rogue One.

Aside from their similar appearances, Montferrat being in Rogue One is actually quite plausible. His Destroyer, the Devastator, is the former flagship of Darth Vader, who used it at the beginning of Episode IV to pursue the Tantive IV, which had the stolen Death Star plans onboard.

While it's possible Mikkelsen is portraying someone else, the fact that Montferrat looks similar to him and serves on the Devastator seem to be a bit more than just pure coincidence. Still, anything is possible, but I know I'm going to remain hopeful that Mikkelsen is portraying Montferrat in Rogue One.

Unless this is a "from a certain point of view" kind of thing. Gareth Edwards has said that in Rogue One, good guys do bad things and bad guys do good things. The lines are blurred. Though I tend to take Mikkelsen literally when he says he's not playing a bad guy, there might be a lot of grey area to navigate.

 

That wouldn't contradict him being in Rogue One. There are many years before Rogue One that he could have been commanding.

Galen means crazy or mad in Swedish. I think a Dane would use a slightly shorter version though like "Gal" ?

Anyways , to me when i see the autograph with the underlined word it reads Mads Mikkelsen CRAZY

 

That's a bit of a shame. Montferrat being in Rogue One would've been perfect, especially considering the character's history, and the fact that the Devastator has a very good chance of showing up in the movie.

This is actually pretty inspired. I can see them doing this as it will provide an nice connection from film to film. Although, I suspect Felicities character will have more significance going forward as well.
