These would all have been better choices:

    Matt Reeves
    Joss Whedon
    Frank Darabont
    Alfonso Cuarón
    Michel Gondry
    Gore Verbinski
    Francis Lawrence

    Joseph Kosinski
    The Wachowskis
    Guillermo Del Toro

Some would call that a good thing.

Also, the director of TPM probably looked like the movie was in good hands at the time, too. And we all know how that turned out.

The only Edwards work I'm familiar with is Godzilla, and I thought it was a complete and utter disappointment.

However, I'm going to try not to let that effect my opinion of how Rogue One will be, because as with Abrams and Into Darkness, the main problem with Godzilla was not the direction but the writing, and besides, everyone is allowed to have a few duds.

JJ did an awesome job with directing Into Darkness, hugely underrated film.

    @Fartkraum @smoothkaz
My opinion was (and still is) to give Edwards a chance.

What I meant by this is that we all felt pretty good about Lucas directing TPM, only to have SW fans pretty much split down the middle on whether it was good or not.
You guys really don't understand the Cantina's feedback system, do you?

There are many more worthy directors out there. Disney have picked Gareth because 1. He's one of few potentially talented directors who will sign on to a Star Wars spinoff without even knowing the outline, and 2. Because he's only dealt with a major studio on one previous occasion and he'll be easy to push around.

David Fincher's work on Alien 3 is the perfect example, Fox used the new director then imposed on his creativity before locking him out of the editing process.. I fully expect this to happen with Gareth on Rogue One. The episodes appear to have been given the respect they deserve so far, but I can see the spinoffs being the vehicle for Disney's other ideas for the franchise..

That very well could be the case. We'll have to just cross our fingers and hope he surprises you. I don't want a bad movie either.
Thanks for jacking up my negative/neutral ratings, btw. Seems kind of petty, but whatever floats your boat.

I'm not the one who gave you an unoriginal (not that the user who did wasn't within reason to) in any case I think you're the one who needs to understand the rating system and not get so upset about it.

You've changed your ratings multiple times over the last ten minutes. You also went back to other posts I've made in other threads to give negative ratings since this discussion started. (only to remove them once I called you on it, I might add.) Nice try though. Knock yourself out. It's why there's an ignore option.

That's 80% crap, but I did change my Off Topic to a Clouded a few minutes ago in this thread, though i'm about to revert it.

    Good idea. ;)

Ignored and rated Epic Fail for the outright lies, hope that doesn't ruin your day.

As long as they're better than TPM and AOTC though... Clones had its moments but the painful lack of chemistry between Portman and Christensen dragged it down.

Me too. Neither have demonstrated exceptional abilities with past works. Really hope Kasdan or Kinberg do a polish.

    Great report ! http://rebelsreport.com/2015/05/25/rogue-intel-star-wars-rogue-one-from-conception-to-production/

    G. Edward : " [...] So I did, I sat down on a Sunday and read it. I was honestly hoping that I hated it because I was in the thick of filming and I wanted a break, to take six months off, not do anything else for a while and reevaluate my life and this was going to go straight after finishing a film so I was like, ‘please be rubbish, please be rubbish, please hate it” but as I was going down the paragraphs I got to the end and I was just like, ‘Oh, Blast!” It was checkmate. I couldn’t sit in a cinema and know that someone else made this film. [...]"

Is Bryan Cranston wearing a wig in Godzilla? I'm 29 minutes into this movie and it's really bad, you guys.

Following up on my post from almost a year ago, after seeing the teaser -- maybe Edwards was the right choice after all? I thought Godzilla was clumsy and stupid but this looks great! Trailers can be deceiving but I'm optimistic now.

He sat right in front of me at the The Art of the Force Awakens panel at Star Wars celebration London. He was dressed as a stormtrooper and tried to sit down. But we all know stormtrooper armour does not enable one to sit down. So, he stood there waiting until David Collins allowed the audience to ask some questions. Gareth Edwards, still in disguise, received a microphone and asked a rather rude question about "whether they felt sad when their director didn't pick their art" in a yorkshire accent. Collins didn't understand the question and asked the trooper to take off his helmet so he could speak more clearly. Then..TADA.....Gareth Edwards right on front of me. Though........the camera already positioned on the anonymous stormtrooper was quite suspicious already, so I had some idea about how fishy it all was.....

Just an experience from Celebration London.

    Cheers.

Ah nope. Enjoy the movie, these are not the wigs we are looking for.
