Agreed we have a character who is about to make herself known across the galaxy, she understands what the rebellion is & that's why they called her up.

If they're trying to make her a hero and they've hired someone like Felicity Jones...I highly doubt she'll die even if she faces Vader himself.

Nah I doubt she would die in rogue one, they could have a use for her on other movies.

Yeah, especially if they end up making some sort of sequel to this movie.

You know they will, I can see big plans for this one, stealing death star plans sure is a big scoop, but as we know the empire has a galaxy full of secrets.

You know what will happen right? It will become one of those movies that stop at the first sequel, like such movies as Stakeout, City Slickers, Gremlins, Grease, Kill Bill, Bad Boys, 2001 Space Odyssey, American Graffiti, Kick-Ass, Bill&Ted, Caddy Shack, The Mask of Zorro, Airplane!, Speed, Hellboy, National Treasure, Sin City, 300, Sherlock Holmes, Anchorman, Bruce Almighty, Saturday night fever, Ace Ventura, the Addams Family..... and so on!

It could just potentially become a James Bond/Mission Impossible-type of series. "Jyn and her friends on another secret mission for the Rebellion," but most of them are standalone and don't really connect to the previous ones.

That could be kind of cool.

Well, they can always try to steal the Declaration of Indep-- wait.

Rogue One seems to be a very specific story, hence I don't see a sequel...

    Unless
    a. Rogue One refers to Jyn Erso herself
    b. Jyn actually survives

If so then yes, more movies called "Rogue One" would make sense, since the title would refer to the much living heroine. And if she does survive, I expect her to have one hell of a life.

And speaking of which, yes, I do see Jyn surviving. For a number of reasons:

    - It's Disney and they release this movie on Christmas. The main hero(ine) dying has a very low chance of happening.
    - They're planning on seeling a ton of merchandise for Jyn. Especially kiddy things (cups, clothes, toys, etc). You don't plan on creating merchandising and thus spending money as an investment for a character that people (small children especially) will only mourn or cannot imagine further stories with their friends for. It's stupid policy and management.
    - The description of the scene that the executives and investors saw of Rogue One some month ago, have Jyn mocking the Jedi saying "May the Force be with us," meaning, she doesn't believe in it. Yes, I know, I speculate judging on a scene I haven't even seen, but bare with me. Rules of writing say that Jyn will end up believing in the Force, albeit in a very negative way, because the only Force user in the cast is Darth Vader.
    - Her tough-as-nails, lone-wolf personality screams "point A" in her character development, which I fully expect to go "team-player" "bonded with the others" as her "point B".

But, I can see everyone else in her team dying. Which will give the movie the dark tone it advertises without killing Jyn, but by killing off the people she finally connected with after being "on her own since the age of 15". And make her a believer of the Force in the worst possible way.

In other words, I adore Jyn from the trailer already, I love that she's unsmiling, I love that she's completely aware that the Rebellion is simply a side of the war and not the "good guys" and I love that she's been self-sufficient all her life. And I can't wait to see how damaged she'll be after this mission.

...I sound horrible, I know. But a female character who will not be "brave and good and a good leader and will fight for hope till the end" is what my dream girl in Star Wars is made of. We already have Leia, Padme, Mon Mothma, Rey... female characters who are genuinely good. I'd like to have a gray one who is not supposed to be a ray of light and support, but selfish because it's a war and she's been alone, so yeah, of course she's a bitter lone wolf.

Mon Mothma: "Jyn, we have another top secret assignment for you with our Bothan spies."
Jyn: "Just when I thought I was I out.....they pull me back in."

I completely agree the way Jyn Erso has been setup is one of individualism yet rebellious in the trailer when they read off her rap sheet she says "I'm a rebel, I rebell.." It to me is very telling as it shows that her characterization was well thought out and will be very complex

Mon Mothma: On your own from the age of fifteen; reckless, aggressive, and undisciplined.

Jyn Erso: This is a rebellion, isn't it? I rebel.

I kinda doubt the theory that Jyn is Rey's mom, mainly because I don't think Rogue One would be the place they introduce her character, and also, I don't know if that would work out in the timeline. If Luke is indeed Rey's father, I'm pretty sure Jyn is a few years older than him, more around Han's age. :/

I think Pablo has already said that these characters don't have any impact on TFA or something like that ... @MagnarTheGreat would know, though
    :D.

Rogue One is a one-off. The characters they introduce for this movie will be relevant to their own little corner of the Star Wars continuity - and that won't be for Episode VIII or Episode IX. (We might get to see more of them in Rebels, though.)

You gotta keep in mind that Star Wars isn't planned to be like other "Cinematic Universes" where every movie builds up potential for a spin-off or another sequel. It's three movies for a single, long-form story arc, and a movie a pop for every standalone story (with some room for sequels later on, if deemed necessary).
