SPECULATION Official Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) Discussion

So I was thinking about the Poe Dameron's mom idea. First I dismissed it out of hand. But one of the silly ideas that Spoilerman put forth was that Poe's last name was Darklighter as in Bigs. So I was thinking. What if she actually is playing Poe Dameron's mom and has a relationship with Biggs? A little too much connectedness maybe but fun idea.

Though I really like the Tano idea.

Well, color me surprised (if this is indeed legit, that is)! Although I like Sabine and Rebels overall, I didn't think their sort of bright aesthetic would've fit in with Rogue One's rumored darker tone. But who knows?

Well that settles that My first gut reaction was that it wasn't legit, but I'm kinda starved for any SW morsel of info I can get my hands on.

Denis Lawson was 30 in Ep4 so if this is a few years earlier he can't be Felicity's father but she could be his love interest? Or maybe Rogue One dies and hands the title to Wedge? The Denis Lawson / Wedge not appearing in Ep7 news was quite negative so maybe this was the quickly agreed fall back plan

 

Oscar Issac made a comment at Comic Con about Poe Dameron being on Yavin during the throne room medal ceremony in ANH. I wonder if it's possible that Felicity Jones' character is Poe's mother? And perhaps Diego Luna's character is his father? Thats probably not the case, but it would be a nice tie-in to TFA.

I don't buy it though. I don't think Boba would be old enough to have an adult daughter by the time of Rogue One (which I'm assuming is shotly before ANH).

 

With new rumors of Felicty Jones wearing Mandalorian armor, my gut tells me SABINE..........

I don't see it. And already I have a R1 rumor that I think needs to die.

 

I doubt Felicity is playing either Sabine or Boba's daughter. Both parts are way too young.

Sabine isn't as young as Ezra, but she's young enough to be Ezra's crush/kinda-sorta-love interest. I know there's maybe a 4-5 year difference in the timelines of Rebels and Rouge One, but I just don't see this working. Plus, Sabine is supposed to be Asian (or space-Asian, in the case of Star Wars), so I'd rather see someone truer to her character than Felicity.

As for Boba Fett's daughter...it depends on how you approach the situation. Boba Fett was "born" shortly after TPM, making him roughly 32 by the time of ANH; this would mean that even if he had a daughter at 18, she'd only be 15 or 16 by the time of Rouge One; again, the age doesn't work. However, there is still the chance that there are plans to reboot Boba Fett; the rumor is that someone killed clone-Boba and took his armor to be the new Fett. If this is true, it's entirely possible that she could be this new Fett's daughter, though I don't know why she would be wearing Mandalorian armor if that's the case. The third possibility I see is that she's Boba's "daughter", as in an orphan he picked up along his travels and adopted as his kin. This would actually fit with the old-canon version of Mandalorian culture, in which genetics didn't make you a Mando, acceptance with the clan did. I still think she's a new character though.

 

Here's my honest question to everyone here: Would her character being the daughter of Boba Fett be interesting to anyone? Would it have any meaning?

I ask because I'm not big on Boba Fett to begin with, so if this were true (and I don't at all think it is) it does nothing but confuse me. But perhaps fans of Boba would find this compelling somehow. Personally, I don't see the point. Why make her related to him? Why not just have a new character without superpowers or mythological/historical attachments?

 

While I agree that I'd rather see her be an original character, I'll answer your question because I'm a Boba Fett fan .

Specifically, I'm a fan of the Boba Fett in the later EU novels, where he is a grizzled and hardened warrior who reconnects with a family he long ago abandoned and a culture he emulated buy ultimately rejected. That Boba Fett is someone so disillusioned by decades of bounty hunting that he's basically an aimless caricature and he knows it; he discovers that he has a granddaughter, a girl who was raised to hate him by a daughter who once tried to kill him, and through her learns to find a new place for himself as the Mandalore (leader) of the Mandalorians.

Now obviously this won't be the story they use in the new canon, but I like the potential dynamic of hardened bounty hunter meets young girl, particularly if she's an orphan that he begrudgingly lets tag-along that eventually becomes his "daughter" (add a little more drama: maybe he killed her parents as part of a bounty). This would make not only an interesting character for Felicity Jones to play in Rouge One, it would be an excellent tie-in to the rumored Boba Fett movie; it could be set around the time the met, or maybe they're estranged and they meet again years later, competing for a bounty.

There's lots more potential there, but those are just a few ideas if this is indeed the character she is playing.

 

Here's an idea: what if Jones is playing the woman from Aftermath whose name escapes me? Unlikely, but people are already speculating that she's a pre-existing character, so why not?

That would actually be pretty cool. At the very least they should sneak the Moldy Crow into the background of a scene like they did with The Outrider in the ANH special edition.

 

I think Felicity will be playing an all new character, unrelated to any existing character.
