SPECULATION Official Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) Discussion

It would be a nice tie in though. Felicity Jones' character is described as a mercenary, so you might be on the right track. But they might also decide to go completely the other way of course.

 

So.. you are saying that she is one of the main characters for the rebellion in Rogue One, then becomes a TRAITOR and joins up with Vader.. I don't see that happening.

My favorite element in TFA is how well-rendered Rey is as a character. I love how the character exposed just how STUPID and SLOW and IGNORANT the Hasbro Corporation is and I love laughing at Hasbro as they try to hide that they still dwell in Rhode Island, circa 1952. It's one of the most patriarchal companies in history and Star Wars exposed them. Love it.

I look for similar things out of Jyn. I love the name by the way.

I love how Star Wars is a LEADER again, here we are 16+ years after Singer's X-Men launched Superhero Cinema for this century but Marvel STILL has not released a film dedicated to any of their female heroes and the one DC is finally doing cast a 5' 2", size-0 super model to play an Amazon.

I know some guys hate pop culture observations in threads where they want to talk about light saber designs and plot points. My apologies, but I what I see in Jyn is yet another step forward for fans like my daughters. My daughters have loved Star Wars since they were little because their Dad loved Star Wars. But other than Leia, there wasn't much for them to root for or identify with within this great mythos.

Disney is changing that and Jyn will help forge that path.

It's awesome. It's long overdue and about damn time, but it's most definitely awesome.

 

I think it is very interesting and bold to launch a new saga and a standalone movie both with a female character as the main lead and protagonist. It changes things up in a healthy way and shows that Star Wars is indeed everyone's story. I'm a male, but I identify more with Rey than with any other character in Star Wars and many other fans do the same. That they managed to do this without suddenly spawning a sort of sexist controversy or feminist outporing tells something about the depth and viability of Rey's character. May they include many more female leads and characters. I can't wait to see more!

 

It gets even more fun when you consider that they launched the ST with a woman and black man as the co-leads, and the first spinoff with a female lead and a majority non-white cast. And I took to TFA characters (especially Rey obviously, but not solely her) much quicker than to any other SW characters. I like others, even love them, but they didn't grab me as immediately as these ones did (well maybe Darth Vader and Han Solo, they were close). I'm hoping that RO will give me a similar reaction.

As for her potential character name, I like it. I am curious to see how it'd be pronounced in-universe though?
