Man I hope we learn a bit more of the Knights of Ren. So it'll help me with my 'Knight of Ren' story. Really like to know more of Snoke. How long he's been around...

Snoke might even be afraid of Kylo's potential/power and be keeping him out running these errands, and the same with the other KoR.

Playing them all in his game like it's a chicken fight.

**Edited it to say chicken fight instead. Oops.

The could be some kind of Dark Side-worshiping cult of warriors. They pre-date Kylo, but he usurped/took over leading them at some point. Its interesting that Kylo is the only one wielding a lightsaber in the vision, all of the others have their own distinct weapons.

If that were the case then he wouldn't have sent Hux for Kylo & Phasma to complete his training .

i don't know if Snoke keeps the KOR from ganging together on purpose, but i don't doubt he's wary that if he lets Ren get even a whiff of agency, Ren could turn things on him. he's basically got a vicious dog on a long leash right now.
when he talks about "training", he probably means to shorten up the leash and weaponize the dog to go after the right opponent (Luke).

Maybe he's going to give Ben some sort of a force-back thing to killing his father to fuel his anger every morning before training...breakfast with a side of guilt :p z

    Congratulations!

This thread has been named Thread of the Week because it's about time we had an official KOR thread, and because of the great discussion that's been had so far. Discussion like this is what sets this community apart. Keep up the great work!

Congrats on Thread of the Week!

So honestly, I have no idea where the KOR come from or who they are; there are so many theories, and I'd honestly be surprised if we get much of a background to them in the movies. There is, however, one thing that I strongly suspect: the Knights of Ren are dead by Kylo's hand.

Both of these quotes are relevant to my theory. I said before that idk where the KOR came from, but at some point two things happened: Snoke seduced Kylo, and the KOR, including Kylo, slaughtered Luke's academy. (Even though he's wearing his mask in Rey's Force Back, we don't honestly know is Kylo was even called Kylo at this point, or if he had adopted the "Ren" surname yet; lots of unanswered questions here...) Chronologically, then next time we even hear about the KOR is when Snoke uses the moniker "Master of the Knights of Ren" to describe Kylo in TFA. Now really think about it: if finding Luke (or destroying any chance of finding him) was so important in TFA, where were the KOR? If they're part of Snoke's crew, wouldn't he send them to back up Kylo; if they're part of Kylo's crew, wouldn't they be working alongside the FO like him? They could be independent of Snoke and Kylo, but why would Kylo be their "Master" if he couldn't call on them when things got so intense that they went and made a movie out of it? (Hurt someone, a little meta humor never has.(yoda))

My answer is that they're dead by Kylo's hand at Snoke's order, and calling Kylo "Master of the KOR" is Snoke's way of mocking him for it. We don't know what Snoke's true plans or allegiances are, which is another way of saying we don't know for sure if he's a Sith or not, but we do know that he uses the Dark Side and seems particularly prone to inflicting emotional pain in order to strengthen resolve (Kylo stabbed first (crossguard)(han)). I believe that Snoke may have encouraged Kylo to join the KOR, even befriend them, used them to train him in combat, and eventually had Kylo kill them all. They were his puppy that trained with him, only to die by his hand as initiation into his true Apprenticeship under Snoke. He is therefore "Master" in that he bested each and every other member, and because he is now the sole member.

Why keep the name "Ren" then? Two theories: A, it was imposed upon by Snoke, or B, it was a honorary he already wore as a member and he continues to use it because he had made a name for himself under it; either way, I suspect it might change soon if his training with Snoke is to be complete. Darth or not, I think he'll get a new name; the audience already knows he's truly "Ben Solo" anyway, so what's in a name?

    TL;DR: KOR are dead, Snoke's a prick.

I really hope not. I really would love to see Rian Johnson explore these guys. I won't be surprised if you're right, but I really hope we see more of them in VIII and IX.

In order to become "Master of the Knights of Ren" he had to face some type of test. Snoke says to him, something like even you Master of the Knights of Ren, have never faced such a test. That leads me to believe (or at least hope) it is still a functional organization with a hierarchy, otherwise why not say conqueror or destroyer? In TFA, we basically saw one small glimpse of the F.O. My hope is that there are many KOR throughout the FO. To see Luke and Rey fight them would be awesome. Kind of the opposite of the PT (many Jedi vs 2 sith to Many KOR vs 2 Jedi) also would explain a little more why Luke never took down Snoke and Kylo, he was simply outnumbered.

I wouldn't worry, as another poster says:
Although I'm the guy still hoping that they haven't actually wiped out the Republic so I'm probably not on the same wave length as TPTB.

Unless the entire republic consisted of ONE star system, then I doubt that it's completely gone. I think that Hux was more referring to the Republic government/fleet. And with BDT and Laura Dern involved, we could very well be getting some Republic stuff (I could see either of them playing a powerful political leader).

I agree, I don't think the Republic is completely wiped out. The seat of government was, though, and it's gonna take a lot to fix that. New elections, new Senate building, the whole works. There's also the possibility that the First Order will install it's own government. I wonder if Episode VIII will deal with the political situation a bit more.

I have a feeling the reason we didn't see the Knights of Ren outside of Rey's Force vision is because they are out and about seeding mayhem throughout the galaxy.

Sure, logic would dictate that the Republic wouldn't be gone and the actors you mention plus the leaked photos from Dubrovnik, which to me suggest some kind of VIP event (perhaps NR ruling class), would suggest the Republic is still in the game but occasionally I doubt this outcome.

For example, I saw an extract from an upcoming book on Star Wars propaganda, or something like that, which seemed to suggest that the Republic was gone and the Rebel Alliance Resistance was the last hope of the galaxy. This kind of thing does not fill me with hope.
Absolutely, the Republic should be in complete disarray but should recover over the course of the trilogy as the war with FO goes on. I should imagine an emergency wartime senate/chancellor would be established to cope with the, presumably, First Order invasion.
Agreed, the KoR are quite likely Snoke's personal assassin/enforcer squad. Any task that Snoke has a personal interest in or is of vital importance to would likely be given to one of the KoR. I should imagine that while Kylo was tracking down Luke, priority no. 1, the other KoR were with Snoke or scattered across the galaxy pursuing their own important missions.
