Don't think so. Hooded/cloaked figures are a dime a dozen in SW. The one behind JJ looks like he wants to sell you something.

 

I think that is a Garindan. I have heard a rumor that the species makes an appearance in TFA. I would make sense for him to be on the Tatooine set since that's where he was seen in ANH.

Who is Kylo Ren?

There isn't a "Darth" title in his name so does that indicate he is an unofficial Sith or he just has not earned his "Darth" name yet. Could he be the wannabe like others have mentioned? What do you think?

And who is under the hood?
Adam Driver? Andy Serkis? Max vox Sydow? Miltos Yerolemou? Someone else?

Hasn't earned the Darth title yet, methinks.
Both options in the poll don"t exclude one another really. He may start out as a wannabe collecting Sith artefacts only to find out he is slowly being lured in and seduced by the dark side. Perhaps even by a Sith 'ghost' looking for a host?

Driver still seems like a safe bet.

 

I will be highly surprised if he isn't Darth Driver.

 

The rumors say his Sith name will be Darth Ruin. Do you believe that to be true?

It would be nuts and very "mystery box" to take a major bad-ass villain type and simply hide him in plain sight in the background of a random video months before the movie comes out. Interesting theory!

 

I'm pretty new with discussing Star Wars theories and rumors and weighing ideas against what's established, so forgive me if I am rehashing what everyone knows...

Looking at the Darth names, they reflect the bearer in some way. Tyrannus = tyrant, Maul = brutal, single purpose weapon, Vader = father, and so on.

So, I would suggest that IF "Ruin" is the new Darth, then it should reflect that character in some way. Perhaps they're heavily scarred, perhaps they've been banished or shunned by a community, perhaps they're "ruined" in a mental capacity.

Is Ruin the new Sith? maybe. If so, then it might suggest some interesting things about the character.

I still stand by the trailer cast list confirming Driver as Kylo Ren, and while I can see Kylo becoming a Sith I think he will be nothing more than a fanatic wannabe who is nothing more than a pawn. Who Serkis really wants is Rey so he manipulates Kylo to go after her

 

Hummm... this video makes me think. What if the new Ship is that car back there? Maybe some guy with skills modified it and put a hyperdrive in it.

 

One thing I know: he is not Gwendoline Christie hehehehehehehe.

But maybe they didn't want to reveal it. Just the civilian name.

 

I think Kylo Ren is a Sith wannabe, and I think Adam Driver plays the character. Like Bluestreaking mentioned, he may be a pawn who is simply manipulated.

I can't help but think of one of the Darth Bane books. It believe it was Dynasty of Evil. In it, Bane assumes the role of a "Sith Fetishist", someone obsessed with collection illicit Sith relics and artifacts.

I could see Kylo Ren being an actual one of these fetishists.

 

I would say it is Driver. I also think by the end of the movie he will be a Darth. Whether it is Darth Ruin I'm not sure. So far, ( although very limited information) it does not appear that they are taking names from the Legends material so I suspect it will be an original name.

 

I tried to find links to the different names with Kurosawa films (Like Kira... Akira Kuroawa) They best I could find was Ren=Ran which can mean Disturbed or confused Nothing else I searched found anything...

 

I doubt that his Darth title will be "Ruin." The EU may be dead, but Ruin was already a Darth title in ancient times; I don't see them reusing a name like that. I'd like to see something a little more original for this Sith wanabee/fetishist.

 

Seeing as Driver was listed as being in the teaser trailer, and asuming he isn't playing a second Stormtrooper, it is so likely as to be certain that the guy under the dark hood is Driver.

 

What jumped out at me about the EW piece, and I'm sure others noticed it, was this bit in the intro:

There’s certainly much more to reveal. We haven’t yet seen Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, or Max von Sydow...

Which of course implies that Driver is NOT Kylo Ren, aka the Hooded Dude with the Controversial Lightsaber.

So this is either:

A) Clumsy misdirection on the part of Abrams/EW, in that the article could have done just fine to leave that sentence out and still note on the character's card page that we don't know who's playing him;

B) Another mystery inside this mystery, aka, who the hell is that then?!
