I thought Leia was great but the scene where
use the force in space was executed a little too strange. I don't consider it Superman, but I wish that Rian had done it slightly different. For example like in the Game of Thrones when Tyrion Lannister is unconscious and is floating until he is conscious again. I think it would've have worked abit better. I don't hate that scene with Leia, but could've been done better.

    WARNING: SPOILER!

I don’t know how to hide content under the spoiler tag, so don’t read if you don’t want to get spoiled, but I don’t know why you’re here at the moment and expect not too...

    ...anyways...

The medical ship is the first to run out of fuel and therefore be destroyed, how was Leia NOT on that after being exposed to deep space?!?!

Leia flying is when the franchise jumped the shark. It kills me to say it being a lifelong fan who saw SW in 1977, but it was that bad. Episode 9 will be the first SW movie that I could care less about. RIP SW.....

Pretty much every one of Carrie Fisher's big scenes made me cry. She was so great in this film. I was rather unsatisfied with how the film ended in regards to her character the first time, but after going back a second time, I'm really happy with what they did for Leia. This was an eerily perfect final performance for her, and after what she did in this film, it makes me so mad to know that she won't be in Episode IX. Carrie deserved her big moment, but I'm so grateful that Rian gave us what he did with her in The Last Jedi. She and Mark Hamill really stole the show there.

I think the space swim was also poorly executed. It would have been more poignant if we saw Luke sensing her in danger, panicking, and then him moving her, or even Kylo Ren, in a moment of light sidedness saving her without her or anyone knowing.

I think, more than the poor execution of the aforementioned scene, it was just really hard to watch from an emotional standpoint. There was a more fantasy sort of focus to how this film approached the Force (both with this scene and Luke's big moment at the end), and I don't think people liked that.

That being said, I like that this scene emphasized Leia's Force abilities and just how powerful she truly is. It was one of my personal favorite moments in the film because there's such an emotional depth to it, especially in light of Carrie's passing. She really stole the show in every scene she was in. I understand people's frustrations with the scene, but I personally liked what it did for Leia being that we never got a moment with her wielding a lightsaber or doing anything with the Force other than telepathically connecting with people.

Nothing against you personally, but I can't stand overreacting like this. That one little element of a movie instantly makes you make up your mind about the entirety of the movie, even if it's something minor in the grand scheme of things, makes me question your ability to judge a movie on its merits or flaws.

Again, this is not against you personally. It's more against a general trend that I feel devalues film criticism. I think it's rare for there to be a specific element that ruins an entire film, but this was just an idea that worked on paper but not in actual execution.

The ability to judge a movie? I liked TFA and R1 so I’m no Anti-Disney Troll as I’m utterly shocked at how bad TLJ was. This scene was a metaphor for the movie as the crowd actually groaned it was so bad.

This wasn’t some minor plot point or secondary character, this was Princess Leia who hadn’t use the Force ever in the movies (maybe you can count hearing Luke at the end of ESB but Lucas did not have her as his sister yet) actually flying through space like Superman!

There are bad moments in all movies that are forgotten and then there are moments like this that just make you scratch your head and will be talked about for years.

Again, you cite that scene as one issue, but you fail to produce any other criticism you have about the movie. Not even one. Instead, you make up some nonsense about how "it's a metaphor for the movie" without going into detail.

If the linchpin of your argument is that one scene ruined and entire film for you and that there is nothing else that you feel is worth mentioning to explain your disdain for the film, then your argument blows.

In any case, the point of that scene, poorly-executed though it might be, was to show that Leia could do more with the Force than just sense things. I was no fan of it either, but it demonstrated the point they were trying to go for and for me it's only a blemish on an otherwise ambitious, original movie.

I didn’t want to derail the thread in negative remarks about the whole movie because it’s a thread about Leia. But you want criticisms about the movie, where do I begin?

-TLJ is a bloated movie that should have shaved a 1/2 hour as there is no reason that needed to be the longest SW movie.

-They could have removed the whole Finn/Rose Casino subplot and nothing would be different in the movie

-The Opening sequence is too long and just goes on and on as we’re all waiting for Luke/Rey handing of the saber.

-The humor is out of place in the movie. Is Poe doing a cellphone joke to Hux at the beginning? I thought I was watching Spaceballs!

-The movie should have focused on Rey/Luke and eventually Kylo/Snoke and the subplot should have been about Poe/Finn/Leia/Hux, instead Rey is almost a secondary character in this movie.

-Everytime the narrative builds with Rey/Luke or Rey/Kylo they are interrupted watching Finn/Rose run around. Awful editing. The Kylo/Rey stuff was great, the Luke/Rey stuff was building and yet we get that ridiculous Casino stuff that’s kills any momentum.

-We then finally meet Snoke and he lifts it straight from ROTJ throne room scene? And Snoke is this big bad villain that is killed that easily? Total anticlimactic!

-So Luke/Anakin Lightsaber calls out to Rey in TFA, they play Luke’s music when she force grabs the Lightsaber and yet she is random Rey?? That makes no sense.

-Here are some eye rolling moments other then Leia flying. Neo Matrix Luke??? Kylo Ren shirtless? What was up with Luke drinking milk from the t**s?

And RJ didn’t stick with certain things that every SW Saga movie abides by. Did anyone say, “I gotta bad feeling....”. Oh wait RJ has to clarify yesterday it was BB8 who said it. The problem is none of us in the audience can understand the droid! The ending montage started by Lucas always show one of the Skywalkers and RJ shows some random kid??? That is something for his new Trilogy, not the Skywalker Saga!!!

This isn’t one or two minor criticisms I have, this is pretty much the whole movie as it’s a total turkey. Trust me, I’m heartbroken as I liked what Disney had done with a GFFA and had faith in RJ, but this guy was all wrong for a Saga movie. He is more suited for the new Trilogy where he can adhere to HIS rules.

I liked the scene where she used the force on my second viewing. It just looked a little wierd to me the first time, didn't have any problems with what she does in itself.

Leia CAN do a lot with the Force. But not without training. This film throw it out, step on it, spit on it, then set it on fire while laughing maniacally.

We all know Leia is strong with the Force. But it doesn't magically make people a master of the Force and pull feat out of nothing while invalidated all what we know.

I had no problem with Leia using the force, it was brilliant to finally see. But i was always under the impression that when you get spaced the vacuum causes your head to explode? Is it canon that a ships shields maintain some kind of atmosphere in a bubble around the ship even if a physical part of it is blown up? I'd have no problem with the scene then. I even wouldn't have had a problem with it if she remained conscious and used the force immediately. It's that she gets exposed to space for a good while, while she's passed out, then comes around and uses the force that I can't get over.

Using the force the do unnatural things is one thing. Being able to survive in the vacuum of space, while unconcious, unprepared and not even trained in the ways of the froce just doesn't sit right with me at all. And I'd say the same about any character except Vader, it would be like seeing a Jedi swim through lava or something, it's just silly.

Aside from that scene she was incredible in this film. Carrie's performance itself was fantastic, but that scene though!

That is an urban myth. This is quite a good source of info on what would happen to a human if he's in space.
