SPECULATION Official Luke Skywalker Episode IX Discussion Thread

Well, I was only kidding about Luke returning and igniting the green, as I know that ship has sailed; or rather never sailed from Ahch To.

But, as I quoted, I hope they explore the returning from the netherworld part. It could be too much exposition, I guess. But it's something I would like to know more about.

 

This is so true. I think people sometimes forget this. Luke was the hero and saved the galaxy in ROTJ. The time for more Luke Skywalker adventures would have been in 5-10 years after ROTJ if George would have decided to do them. The ST has always been about the new characters. JJ purposely kept Luke out of TFA to allow the new characters to develop without being overshadowed. I love Luke as much as any but the ST movies were/are not meant to feature him. He is supposed to be supporting character.

 

Sure, but it's still the Skywalker saga. So, supporting character or not, he is a very important part of the sequel trilogy.

 

Yes, it's the Skywalker saga and we have one Skywalker as a main character. => Kylo Ren. Isn't that enough?

 

It's enough for a lot of people and not enough for a lot of people.

 

And he has been very important to the ST. The whole basis of TFA was to find Luke Skywalker. In TLJ he saves the day. He is the one who saves the remnants of the Resistance. At the very end of TLJ the legend of Luke Skywalker lives on and serves as inspiration to many across the galaxy. It is almost assured that in IX we will see him again as a force ghost. Even if it is only a small part it will likely be important to the story.

But as I’ve posted previously - and since Luke most likely will return - I would like them to explore the ”returning from the netherworld of the force” thing.

 

No, of course it isn't. He's a villain, and only a "good" Skywalker counts as a real Skywalker. I mean we never had a SW movie that focused on a villainous Skywalker, so why start now? That would be....outrageous to say the least.

And btw 'Return of the Jedi' and 'Revenge of the Sith' focused on a villainous Skywalker...

Let it be known that Kylo Ren is my beloved fictional son and I'm forever defending his rights as a legitimate Skywalker and heir apparent to Lord Vader lol (This is NOT sarcasm)

 

Totally agree. To me in IV, Luke was a new hope without knowing it and his arc (physical form) ended wit him giving hope to a galaxy.

I have often wondered why there are so many threads with "Official" in their titles. Is this really an officially authorised thread that LFL has commissioned? Or not? Because if not, isn't that insincere, deceptive click-baity and a little fraudulent?

 

It's called "official" to avoid the posting of 100 seperate threads about certain characters.
In the official Luke thread you can post everything related to Luke without the need to create a new topic.

It's pretty self-explanatory IMO.

I think there is zero chance that he is not in the film. I think he will definitely be in it. How big his part is going to be is a completely different question. A good follow up question would be What amount of screen time for Luke would satisfy you or make you happy. Personally just a few scenes would be ok with me.
