Luke stating that the Jedi must end is not that far off from Qui Gon defying the council and then learning to survive death.

"I will do what I must."

Do you guys think Luke will encounter Chewie and Artoo in the film? It's been confirmed that he'll have at least one scene with Leia, and Chewbacca and Artoo are already on Ahch-To, so it's really more a matter of how and when. But what do you guys think?

It would be awkward for him not to meet them at any point during the film. They won't follow Rey and Luke every step of the way but the'll be around and it would be really strange if Luke didn't at least say "hello."

Off topic a little but I hope Chewie has more to do this time around.

Additionally, it was revealed recently that Rian Johnson asked JJ to make a specific change to TFA that is relevant here: originally, JJ had BB8 accompanying Rey to Ach-to, but Rian asked him to switch it to R2D2. Presumably, this was so he could have Luke and R2 interact. Perhaps R2's sudden appearance is what softens Luke a bit and encourages him to train Rey despite his misgivings.

I really hope we get a scene where Anakin talks to Luke and him and Rey bring Luke out of his funk and realization that the galaxy needs the Jedi.

It could go something like this, forgive me as I am bad at writing:

Luke: I only know one truth Rey.

    Rey: What is it Luke?

Luke: It's time for the Jedi to end...

    *Anakin's voice manifests*

Anakin: No Luke, you mustn't speak that way, the Galaxy is dependent on the Jedi to protect it. Our orders teachings may have failed me and the Jedi as a whole, but you can change it.

Luke: I failed you, I failed Obi-Wan, I failed Yoda and now I failed Ben. I left both as to exile myself and learn about the Jedi of old. I failed the Galaxy, I can't be of any use, I want to be done with this all.

Anakin: You have not failed me son....you saved me and helped me destroy Vader and the Sith, your mother would be so proud of you and your sister. The galaxy needs you Luke, BEN needs you.

Rey: Luke, think of Leia, of Ben.....your old students, NOT doing anything would forsake their memory and leave their deaths in vain. I will not fail you Luke, I need you, Leia needs you, the galaxy needs you.

It maybe a longer journey for Luke. Rey's hope at this point is to "Bring Luke back ," at least as stated by Maz. She may want to learn from him rather than Kylo or Snoke. But she might just appeal to his sense of how his sister and the galaxy need HIM. They might have some issues as she tries to make that case they have a few scenes where she learns from him indirectly or informally. But his returning to "the only fight that matters." He might pass the torch on further down the line.

I was thinking about this image in the teaser and noticed all the destruction around him. This could not have been just Kylo and the KoR could it? I know Han says"One boy, an apprentice turned against him, destroyed it all."

But could Kylo alone cause this must destruction? I mean, I know he's an angry guy but he's no Hulk. Makes me wonder if the FO came and did it after Ben turned on him and he did not realize the destruction would happen quite like this. I think once Ben found out what he had caused it did not get him anywhere, really, just like when he killed his own father.

Ben might have betrayed their position or lowered shields or given vital intel which brought destruction. Alternatively the Knights of Ren might carry explosives and started the assault in ships.

Just curious. Has it actually confirmed that this image IS Luke's temple burning? My head canon is going elsewhere for some reason, but I'm almost certain it is.

It hasn't been said but it appears to be a shot from the TFA forceback from a different angle. The general consensus I believe is that its Luke's new Temple. But what's confirmed.

it actually took me a bit to realize that he isn't walking down some steps but is falling to his knees...could this scene have been shot in 2014 during TFA??

Yes. It makes total sense when you relate it back to the force back. Seeing it from Luke's perspective. Look like Ben had a lot of help. Possibly the FO or the Republic. Who knows.

It's possible. But it could have easily been recreated with RJ.

Great observation and excellent question!!!! I think it is certainly possible The Knights of Ren could have brought explosives to destroy it all but also turning the location over to the first order for them to destroy it is certainly viable. Also what I noticed is that in TFA, during the forceback scene where we see the Knights of Ren with what we thought was a temple in the background, it was raining during that vision. It doesn't look like it has rained there recently so if that was presumably Kylo destroying the students then those two scenes would be two separate events. I have also wondered if Kylo is the one who actually "destroyed it all". While I have not completely read the TFA novel, I know it is not stated in the movie that he did. It just the natural deduction one would make. Maybe that is the twist we don't see coming, it wasn't Kylo.... maybe it was Rey... and that is why she was dropped off and possibly mind wiped. She had a natural affinity for the Force and couldn't control herself and emotions at that young age. She destroyed it all but Luke being the true Jedi, obviously couldn't kill her, so she was dropped off. Kylo being seduced by to the dark side is a separate event. I don't know. It late here and I think I may be rambling.

    There is also
a leak that the trailer scene where Kylo is pointing and twisting his lightsaber is to Luke after Kylo burns the Force Tree

Possibly. Maybe that's why Rey is running in the teaser. She may be running towards Kylo and Luke.
