I was a big fan of Obi-Wan spinoff featuring his last confrontation with Darth Maul, but I feel that the new Rebels trailer destroyed that possibility.. It would be so lame if Maul got from the movie alive, again.

I can't see what they'd do with an Obi Wan film, his best years must have been in the Clone Wars era...

Yeah, if the most important thing about a movie for you is how high the main character can jump or how big a punch he can deliver, then there's no point for this spinoff for you. But that would mean you don't understand movies at all.. The best movies are not about the most powerful characters.. The important things are an interesting story and characters development and the emotions it creates.
And I think there never is a point in Obi-Wan's timeline more ripe for a personal story than his years while keeping eye on Luke. It wouldn't have to be a big action movie, I imagine something more like a western. They could show his loneliness, his regret he couldn't save Anakin and the Jedi, his internal struggle to keep low profile while he can't stop himself from helping people in need. And he certainly had gone through a spiritual training in this time, possibly guided by Qui-Gonn's force ghost, to be able to become one with the Force.
There are great but short views to Obi-Wan's time on Tatooine in Marvel's Star Wars comic issues #7 and #15 and more are on their way I think.

Please yes, let's see McGregor back as Obi-Wan. This prospect frankly excites me far more than any of the other anthology movies.

One problem though: The best ideas I've seen kicked around for a plot do involve Darth Vader in some capacity. But with production of this film not likely happening before 2020, possibly even years after 2020, it's difficult to ignore the fact that the distinguished James Earl Jones is now 85 years old. So there is a very real danger that he will not be able to reprise his role in five years time.

It is possible to imagine Vader voiced by someone other than Jones?

    I personally need either an Obi-Wan or Yoda film....preferably Obi-Wan first! :)

It'll be a sad day. But I think they can just get a sound-alike to replace Jones. I feel like Vader's speaking lines in any anthology movie would be very limited anyway.

Also I'm thinking the movie would be about Obiwan finishing off Maul. I get the impression that Obiwan and Vader haven't met since Mustafar...but who knows. You'd think Obiwan would've been a bit more surprised to see that Anakin had become a giant black samurai robot.

I don't know...didn't we see (with Kenobi and Yoda) watch the recording of Palpatine calling him "Darth Vader" in Palpatines office or something? Also, you'd think that for 20 years on Tatooine (or however long it was) that with the Empire in a position of rule, that Kenobi might've seen footage of "Samurai Vader" on the tube at the Cantina or something. It just seems to me that he would've known...hence the lack of surprise, aside from the first personal meeting but he knew that was coming.

I agree. When we first saw this movie, back in 1977, it looked like Obi-Wan was kinda expecting some sort of confrontation. This was his former pupil, just a different one from Anakin at the time, or so we thought. With how Star Wars has changed, Obi-Wan is more "I guess this had to happen eventually."

I totally agree. Partially because of Hayden Christiensen's acting but mostly because of the script, the confrontation on Mustafar didn't really feel like it should have been their climactic confrontation, which is almost paradoxical considering how insanely awesome the fight itself actually was (I mean seriously, the action was incredible). But it's true of any film; if the emotional arc, the reason why a fight is happening isn't strong, then it doesn't matter how good the fight itself is, it won't pack any weight.

I loved Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan in the PT and I would love for him to reprise his role (I'm hoping he pops up in VIII as a force ghost).

That being said, I'm still not 100% sold on an Obi Wan anthology film. I'm not sure how I feel about Obi-Wan potentially leaving Luke on Tatooine to go on some "damn fool idealistic crusade." I suppose he wouldn't necessarily have to leave the planet. The film could chronicle his interactions with the nefarious characters that populate the "wretched hive of scum and villainy" that is Tatooine. Maybe Obi-Wan gets caught up in some drama with the Hutts or has a run in with Black Sun. (I'm trying to sell myself on this movie).

I've never read John Jackson Miller's Kenobi novel, but I've heard it's pretty good. I'm sure reading that novel would give me a better idea of what a Kenobi film would entail.

Yoda film... that could be a potential way to "repair" some of what I see as a mischaracterisation that was done to him in the PT. They just sucked out the Force outta him... :(

The issues in the Star Wars comics that show Obi-wan's life on Tatooine have increased my interest in an Obi-wan movie. Seeing him get all Batman on some riffraff with the Force could be fun.
