‘Ophelia’ Finds Its Guys: Clive Owen, George MacKay, Tom Felton & Devon Terrell Join ‘Hamlet’ Tale

EXCLUSIVE: Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts’ Ophelia has found its Hamlet — and more. Captain Fantastic‘s George MacKay has joined the reimagining of Shakespeare’s famed tragedy playing the Prince of Denmark. Clive Owen (Claudius), Harry Potter‘s Tom Felton (Laertes) and Devon Terrell (Horatio) have also boarded the Covert Media-produced pic, which was set up at Cannes 2016, is being directed by Claire McCarthy and begins principal photography this month in Prague.

Ridley stars as Ophelia, the Queen’s (Watts) most trusted lady-in-waiting. She soon captures the attention of the handsome Prince Hamlet and a forbidden love blossoms. As war brews, lust and betrayal are tearing Elsinore Castle apart from within and Ophelia must decide between her true love or her own life in order to protect a very dangerous secret. Semi Chellas adapted Lisa Klein’s novel.

Paul Hanson’s Covert Media is financing and producing with Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger (The Brothers Grimm) and Sarah Curtis (Hysteria). Covert’s Elissa Friedman and Media Content Capital’s Sasha Shapiro (Fury) and Anton Lessine (Fading Gigolo) are executive producers. Covert is handling international rights; CAA packaged and arranged financing and reps U.S. rights.

Owen, next up in Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets, is repped by CAA. MacKay, next up in Lionsgate’s Marrowbone, is with UTA and Gordon and French. Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise and up next in Megan Leavey, is repped by Gersh and Troika. Terrell, who played young Barack Obama in Barry, is with CAA and Independent Management Company.

I believe that her lightsaber will actually be white.
    project-22-Windzwaard-foto-06-675x490.jpg
My reasoning is that she will neither be a Jedi or Sith but will bring "balance" and the fact that her saber isn't either color will reflect that.
    Star_Wars_The_Last_Jedi.jpg
I think the Last Jedi reflects that and the middle is white. That is my personal theory at least lol.

I am glad to see that she and Boyega aren't being pigeon holed into Star Wars only roles as it felt like what happened to Mark Hammil in particular. It'll be good to see them in other projects. I think Driver and Isaac already had established careers and major projects prior to TFA.

Daisy Ridley was 'petrified' before shooting Murder on the Orient Express

Daisy Ridley played a big part in relaunching the Star Wars franchise with 2015’s The Force Awakens and then reprised her role of Rey in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. With those experiences under her belt, one might assume that portraying governess Mary Debenham in the actress’ third major project, director Kenneth Branagh’s period thriller Murder on the Orient Express (out Nov. 22), would have held few fears. Wrong!

“I remember finishing my first-ever film [and thinking], ‘Oh my God, this is so great, how could this ever be topped?'” she says. “And then I did my second film, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so great, how could this ever be topped?’ And then Murder was kind of my first foray into non-spacey films. I was petrified. And we just had the best time. Truly the best time. It was the most wonderful group of people. I felt overwhelmingly lucky to be there and to be able to work with Ken and all the other actors. It was just glorious.”

Ridley’s costars include Branagh — who plays novelist Agatha Christie’s famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot — Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe, Penélope Cruz, Dame Judi Dench, and Olivia Colman. So, who was the actress most starstruck to meet?

“When I first met Ken, I was super nervous, because I was auditioning,” she says. “It was this whole thing of auditioning and meeting him. But when I met Judi and Olivia, they’re like aspirational for me. It’s not starstruck: ‘Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.’ That’s what I what I want to be. With Olivia, to get a few years down the line and be even a patch on what she is, I would be so happy. And with Judi, it’s kind of an extension of that. And with those two working together, it was the most f—ing amazing combination.”

Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland Sci-Fi Drama ‘Chaos Walking’ Travels to Cannes With Lionsgate

Lionsgate Intl. has added sci-fi drama “Chaos Walking,” directed by “The Bourne Identity” helmer Doug Liman, to its Cannes Market sales slate. The cast is led by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland, who stars in “Spider-Man Homecoming.”

The script, which is based on the book series by Patrick Ness (“A Monster Calls”), was written by John Lee Hancock (“Snow White and the Huntsman”), Ness, and Charlie Kaufman (“Being John Malkovich”). The movie is produced by Allison Shearmur, whose credits include “Star Wars: Rogue One” and “Cinderella,” and Doug Davison, whose credits include “The Departed.”

The film centers on Todd Hewitt (Holland), who lives in Prentisstown, “seemingly the last settlement on the distant, rugged planet of New World,” according to a statement. The village was colonized “a generation earlier by settlers from Earth seeking a better life, [but] has been reduced to a population of only men after a brutal war with New World’s indigenous alien race, the Spackle.”

Before losing the war, the Spackle released a virus that “infected the men with a plague they now call ‘The Noise’: a visual, background jabber that literally portrays each man’s thoughts and feelings for all to see.”

Todd is taken under the wing of the sly Mayor Prentiss, who has “the mysterious ability to control his own ‘Noise’. But that relationship is put to the test when Todd discovers an unsettling ‘silence’ in the surrounding forest and finds the last thing he ever expected: a woman named Viola [Ridley].”

Ness’ trilogy was described by Booklist as “the classical hero’s journey told as a nail-biting, pulse-pounding adventure.”

We can say that is kinda of official that Rey will keep the blue saber now. And how about Luke? Does he still has the green one from ROTJ? I am curious about that.

It's sounding like, Rey will use the blue light sabre for this trilogy. I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed. Was hoping to see her gain a new light sabre that is unique to her.
