Official Rey Episode VIII thread

I'd rather watch a movie which is good from start to finish.

 

So do I. But as soon as Rey appears in her Jedi training outfit, it'll really kick off.

 

I wish I was that easily satisfied. Personally, it takes more than a Jedi outfit to make me excited for something.

 

The MakingStarWars site has a list of new dialogue spoken by several characters and one of Rey's is "I'm not afraid of you". She would have to be saying this to Snoke when she's in his clutches. Probably the ideal response from him would be "You should be".

 

I'm sure that dialogue just comes from toys.

 

Yeah, I wouldn't read too much into that.

Haha, speaking of that. Anyone remember a few years back when the LEGO game for TFA came out, and during the Kylo vs Rey fight people thought Kylo said "Face me, cousin!" when he actually said "Face me, curses!".

Fun times.

I hope and pray that Disney and Rian Johnson won't dump the "Chosen One" story arc on her. I didn't mind it in the Prequel Trilogy, but enough is enough.

 

Seconded (apart from not liking it in the PT either), it just raises the stakes in an unnecessary way. It's already bad enough that they've indicated Kylo might have been the 2nd chosen one.

Just leave them as strong force users without any of this space Jesus crap.

 

I believe they do from the ForceLink parts that come with the figures.

I've been thinking about this for quite sometime and had to put it in perspective before posting it.

But think about this. Why is Rey finding Luke? By the way, it's not to train her. She's not there to seek training. So why and how does it come about Luke even finding out about her power or anything for that matter? Well of course it could be they might've been sitting around a campfire and Luke says"You hungry?" and they have some Porg soup and it randomly comes up and she gets mad cause his cooking sucks. She states I beat your snotty nephew in a duel. And the hut blows up.

No...she is there for Leia. Right? She sends Ben off with Luke which was a disaster and sends Rey to find Luke and bring him back. Maz says he can could come back. She is not there at first for training. Rey is sent on a mission to find him. Not Leia, not anyone else, but Rey. While there she begins to find out who she is. The why she was sent becomes irrelevant really. Luke is the only one who can answer what she is searching for but it will come at a price. That is really the reason she is there. The mission is the purpose. A guided purpose at that.

It's the same reason it drove Neo to seek out knowledge from Morpheus.

 

So you think she says that she needs someone to show her place in the galaxy to not Luke.

 

At this point, I don't really care if she is a Skywalker but the way Luke is treating her I don't think she is. Maybe a Solo or no one at all...

Leia sent her to retrieve Luke but I think Luke wants no part of it, similar to ESB Yoda did not wanting to train Luke, but Rey decides to go after Snoke, so Luke must train her so she won't fail so terribly. These films rhyme it may not feel like ESB but its core is. Watch when everyone finally sees the film, Youtubers will dissect it similar to what occurred with TFA.

 

I have been thinking about clues that I've found as to why I think Rey is Leia's daughter:

1. Daisy Herself
In an interview, she stated that to her, the question of Rey's parentage was answered in TFA and there's only one scene to emphasizes that.

2. Leia and Rey's Embrace
People have been saying that they embrace because of Han's death but a couple of things I've noticed disagrees with this.
A) Why would Leia hug a young woman she's supposedly never seen before in her life over a man that she barely ever knew rather than Han's best friend of 30 years?
B) For this to be about Han, Rey would have to know exactly who Leia is AND that her and Han were a couple. Considering that it took Rey a while to know she was with Han on the Falcon and thought Luke was just a myth, to know this about Leia when they first meet would be a big stretch.

The novelisation of TFA clearly suggests the embrace isn't about Han at all.

"Instinctively, she (Rey) headed toward Leia. No general now, Leia took the young girl's face in her hands. Though brokenhearted at the deaths of Han and so many brave Resistance pilots, Leia was grateful for the deliverance of the Resistance. In spite of the presence of the crowd that was looking on, the two women embraced without embarrassment or hesitation. Then, with tears flowing, they moved inside."

3. Leia's Motherly Behaviour (TFA Novelisation)
While Rey is sitting at the cleaning table on Jakku, she witnesses a mother-child bonding moment where the mother fiddles with the child's hair. Later before Rey leaves to find Luke, Leia is doing a similar motherly thing by fiddling with Rey's jacket. To Leia, it felt so right and natural to be doing it.

4. Throughout TFA, Rey never mentions Leia once.
Rey has heard of Han Solo and the Falcon, but of him being a smuggler, and Luke is just a myth. Not once is Leia mentioned until they see each other at the end.

5. Leia Hiding Something From Han?
When Leia is asking and desiring for Han to bring Ben home, you'd think she would be looking right into his eyes rather than looking away from him. Is she hiding something? Their son doesn't come home but rather a 19-year old woman.

 

Maybe, maybe not. She could be talking to Chewie or R2 for all we know. But my point is that Rey was not there to seek training. It just turns into that after something happens for Luke to begin training her. She's there on a mission to bring Luke off the island to help the Resistance.
