Rian Johnson made Rey kiss Kylo's ass in this movie, and that's unforgivable. Ridley looked completely lost in this one. Her performance was weaker than in TFA. It lacked energy and honesty. She made it clear in interviews she disliked Johnson's ideas and didn't enjoy working on this movie. This film is a disaster for any new character besides Kylo.

Source please? She has stated she was uncomfortable getting back into it as it was a large film, and “understood” her character by the end of it.

It's a shame Rian Johnson isn't returning for episode 9. TLJ was definitely one of the best Star Wars films.

Did you even read the article you referenced about. Daisy being emotional had nothing to do about the story other than her and John not working together and her anxiety about working with new people.

"I felt the same. When I read the script, I didn't cry right away," said Ridley. "I was like, 'Wobble, wobble, wobble, [shaky voice] I'm probably going to cry and I need to see Rian.' Then I went into Rian's office and I was crying my eyes out. I'm not great with new people. I think Mark [Hamill] can attest to that."

"I find it really difficult to relax," Ridley continued. "And then that's influencing someone else's performance. You don't want to be the thing that's holding something back, when there's me, going, [awkwardly] 'So … how'd you get into all this?' Mark and I were lucky enough to have proper rehearsal time, and then we could talk through everything with Rian. It ended up feeling great, but it was nerve-racking."

These quotes came after John said,

"It was horrible when I read the script for the first time and [Finn] wasn't with her," said Boyega in an interview with the New York Times. "We auditioned together. We went through this whole experience together. To be split apart was scary for me. But then I understood that is something that we could draw from — something that Finn really feels, and Rey really feels. And then I was like, 'Oh! Rian does know what he's doing.'"

I get it you don’t like the movie. That is your prerogative. I’m not going to chastise you for that, but it is disingenuous to try to take Daisy’s quotes out of context to try to make it seems like she agrees with your opinion or to back up your opinion of the movie

Rey and Kylo 's performances were actually quite great IMO. You felt their plight and their motivations. Rey was even better than she was in the first one in my opinion. Kylo was also much improved.

I am looking forward to where this goes. Do they eventually clash once more and in what way. Is Kylo going to ultimately be the savior of the galaxy like Vader, or will Rey be the one to destroy the darkness.

I am eager to find out. Let's see what J.J. Abrams can do with EP 9

That article is dreadful... here's how it ends.

They're going to step in and have a connection to Kylo Ren? Huh?

@MagnarTheGreat, are you really gonna spend the next two years linking to every garbage article that confirms your bias against the film?
The "please let Rey be related to Anakin" people have really dialed up the hyperbole. I'm sorry, but I see through it.

You can take Rey Random out of IX very easily. It would be up to another Force user or group of force users to kill Kylo Ren.

Rey-family-to-Kylo-Ren would be a different story in the narrative.

I'll paste what I think about Rey from other forum ;)

Ok, so to start I want to point out, that Rey is my favourite character in all SW. I loved Rey in TFA. She was a reason, I turned be into a massive fan of SW. So of course I was afraid what they would do with her in TLJ. also I was a massive Rey Skywalker supporter, and when I realized that it was not going to happen (after official screening) I was initially disappointed. And I want to stress, that I understand why people might have problems with Rey in TLJ, but I personally love her even more, and want to describe why. to maybe offer another point of view, even if you don't agree with it.

Rey was living in a past in TFA, because of her parents, and I believed, she didn't let go, going to the next movie. So in TLJ she is lost. There is no Finn, she has that strange abilities, and don't know what to do with it. So she hopes that this legendary Luke Skywalker will teach her. But she wasn't able to bring him back (initially). Throughout her time on Ach-To, she connects to Kylo. I love that the first time it happens, she just shoot at him. Just like that, she was ready to kill him. When opportunity arises, she asks why would he kill Han. After all, all she ever wanted, is to know who her parents are, so she couldn't fathom how anyone could kill their parent. She learns that was because of Luke. So for me, it's belivable that learning all of that, plus the fact that she feels light in him, she is less hostile towards him... especially when this legendary Luke still pushes her off. In the end, she learns truth about Kylo's fall from Luke, that it was a tragic event, and since she is inherently good, and she still believes that she, scavenger from nowhere, is not the one who is important, offers Luke a chance to go back. And because he refuses to do it, she goes to Kylo. I completely buy it considered all of that. It is a mistake, but she learns from it. In the end, she gave Kylo a chance. She stood up proudly to Snoke. She refused Kylo's offer to join him. Just before the end, she sees Kylo once again. But she doesn't speak to him, she isn't angry, or sad. She is just peacefull. And she closes the door on him. She is, as Luke said, the last Jedi. And she finally accepts, that not Luke, not Ben, but she, Rey nobody, from nowhere, is hero that Rebellion needs. I just absolutely love it.

Few smaller things. I love how she smiles so wide, when she feels rain, there by the Falcon. It instantly reminded me, this is the same girl who was mesmerized by all of that green on Takodana. How she had fun swinging lightsaber when she was training. How angry she is when she fights, even doing battle cries. I have goosebumps even thinking about it. What fun she had, when she finally was sitting behind gun on Falcon. That she still can be vulnerable, but when it's needed she is fully confident. That she told Luke, in the beggining that the Force is about lifting rocks... and in the end, in that moment, it was really about lifting rocks, which she even told herself, in almost ironic way. For me she learned a lot about herself in TLJ. I just love Rey.

You made me tear up just reliving those scenes. I loved the 'reach out' scene, it was funny, but also heartfelt: 'Oh, you thought with my heart...'

Her face when she cuts that rock that falls on Caretakers' cart made me lol.

The biggest question for me is what she wanted to tell Finn. She says to Chewie: 'If you see Finn before me, tell him...' and after Wookie speak she says: 'That'll do it.' I wish I could get my hands on TLJ script when all 'alien' and 'droid' speak is in English. I want to know what she wanted to tell to Finn and what R2 said to Luke to earn 'language' reprimand.

I’m going to ridicule the article and my ridicule has nothing to do with Rian, my ridicule is because the article is crap and short sighted. All of her screen time was not spent “in the service of moving the narrative of the men forward.” She is still trying to find her place in the world and trying to figure out the new power that has awakened in her. It just turns out that the only ones who could shed insight to this happen to be men. So by default her story is going to be intertwined with them. Luke not wanting to train Rey does not take anything away from her character.

Rey is the embodiment of the light side. She is good and caring. She senses good in Kylo. That is why she wants to try to bring him back. That is not a flaw in her character either.

“ If Luke won’t help, then Ben is the last hope for the galaxy. Not Rey. Ben.”

Nowhere in the movie does it ever state or even imply that Ben is the savior of the galaxy and not Rey. This statement is just flat out false. Yoda even makes a comment about the importance of Rey

“ The Force abhors uneven scales, striving for Balance. Since Ben is so obviously strong with the Dark Side, the galaxy would need to birth a foil. Rey is reduced to being an effect caused by the birth of Kylo Ren.”

This does not reduce Rey to anything. It helps explain why Rey is as powerful as she is. Why she has such raw power. Ben gets his power from being from the Skywalker lineage. By the way, Anakin was born from the Force as a response to Plagueis and Palps manipulating the Force. The only difference was that Anakin was directly from the Force.

Even the final battle on Crait strips more of Rey’s hero status from her. Where The Force Awakens showed that Rey is a crack pilot on par with the best in the galaxy, The Last Jedican’t be bothered to let her shine. Instead, Chewbacca becomes the heroic pilot while Rey is reduced to the gunner. Reversing their positions in the Falcon would’ve been more in character, but for some reason, The Last Jedi is intent on diminishing Rey’s light.

This ones a doozy. Has she watched ANH. Chewbacca doesn’t man the guns. Han, the Captain and Hot Shot pilot of the Falcon does. I guess Han is reduced to a gunner then. Not to mention I could argue that Rey’s Force abilities would make her a better gunner anyways.

This article is nothing but pure crap. Even taking her opinions out of it, her examples and logic are flawed.

    Edited to add:
The very end of the movie, Leia basically tells Rey she is what the Resistance and the galaxy need going forward. She is still the hero of this saga. By having Luke die, it clearly set this up. She has not been relegated to anything.

That article by Donna Dickens is devastatingly accurate. This was the Kylo Ren show, and Rian made it clear in interviews he was the only character that mattered to him.

Why does Kylo get to become Emperor, getting what he always wanted, but Rey is put down, refused what she wants (a loving family), and is forced to lick Kylo's boots, too? That's bullblast. This movie has set Star Wars and the character of Rey way back.

    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 18, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 18, 2017 ---
Dickens is also right about the gunner scene. It's all about direction, editing, and cinematography people. In ANH, the camera and editing focuses on Luke and Han's triumphs in the gunner's chair. This is true of Finn in TFA, as well. In TLJ, Rey's role in the Gunner's chair is not emphasized through either the editing or cinematography. In fact, she almost gets crushed as Chewie veers into a wall.

Rey is incredibly awkward in this movie.

    People will complain about everything.

“Rey is a Mary Sue “. “ Rey is a supporting character to the men”

Perhaps they should have made the whole cast female. Recast Luke as a female, recast Kylo ren as a female.

You are blinding yourself to hatred.
