Official Snap Wexley Episode VIII Discussion Thread

I'm happy with him being a Wedge-type character and maybe having a latent bromance with Poe (like we saw in the deleted scenes).

 

I doubt that they'll give Snap much more to do. I mean he's there mostly as a favour to Grunberg and as a nod to JJ's fans (not to say I didn't like him!).

... Having said this I now remember Billie Lourd saying that Kaydel Ko Connix has a bigger role in Episode VIII so maybe that means we'll be getting more Resistance scenes and so that might translate to more Snap.

 

I really really like Snap. He looks different, and has a strong presence. I like the rugged beard and the broad figure. He's gruff and badass, yet charming.

I need more Snap.

 

Snap is Temmin Wexley from Aftermath, and he was at the Battle of Jakku, so maybe a nod to his old adventures, working as a trusty second-in-command to Poe? Who knows

 

• What would you like to see from Snap in Episode VIII? Maybe doing like a Wedge, and takes down a First Order AT-AT with a A-wing

• Will Snap make it out of VIII alive?Yes, but he will fell bad for the lost of many Resistance pilots, and troops

 

Exactly! And I loved him in alias, but i must admit, i was a bit surprised that he got his own action figure.

 

...and here we thought Lucas was greedy .

 

If Constable Zuvio got his own action figure, Snap more than deserves one!

I didn't mind Snap in The Force Awakens, but I hope he isn't made more prominent than necessary simply because of who's playing him. (Sounds like that's what's happening with Carrie Fisher's daughter.) I liked all the Resistance officers we met (e.g. Brance, Jessika Pava) so I hope they get some screen time, too.

 

Have to be honest, I HATE him being in this movie. We all know he got the job because of his friendship with JJ, and we know him from JJ's other projects, so every scene he was in, it was like "oh, there's JJ's buddy that doesn't look like he belongs in this universe." I'm sure Greg Grunberg is a nice guy, but I just resent that he got a part in this special movie. At least they could've made him look different, like a scar over his eye or made him a big alien like Simon Pegg. He just looked like he was doing an SNL skit in the pilot costume. Don't want him back.

 

If he must be there...I hope it's just in the background, and no lines. Unless its something weak like, "two fighters against a star destroyer?!".
I agree with @DarthWalker . His his promenence in the movie was just too meta. And he looked, felt and sounded out of place. Even his "watch out for ground fire" was weak.

I'd like Snap a lot more if he would've kamikazied the oscillator after taking a hit. And Poe could've used a wing man down in the trench.

 

Such a great example, actually. I always cringe when that actor says his line, like he's waiting for it...and then suddenly belts it out awkwardly. Perfect example of how an actor can take you out of the moment.

 

i'm with Cole and DarthWalker: Snap annoyed me. i found it especially irritating that Grunberg had more speaking lines than Luke lol (then again, who didn't?)

I dislike nepotism too.

This would have been a good way out. (or this one)

Even Daniel Craig had more lines as Mark Hamill.
To make it clear, I have nothing against Grunberg or Craig.
It's just a shame that both guys had more lines in TFA as LUKE SKYWALKER. (the most important OT character! folks)

 

Dislike the nepotism, but he seems like such a dude that I can't hate him. He isn't that major a character, and he isn't Jar Jar. Regular dudes can be pilots too. Like Porkins, or Dak. Maybe Mr. Bones will make an appearance (really I think that would be too much, but a reference would be fun).

 

I see it the same way, I would have applaud if Snap Wexley would have gone out in a blaze of glory.
(helping out other pilots or destroying Star Killer Base in a suicide run)
Why not give the average joe his 5 seconds of fame, but they missed the opportunity.
I guess Rian Johnson will not use this character in VIII, now we have a character that is going nowhere.

In the end, giving Grunberg a role in TFA was unnecessary nepotism.
He got his dream fulfilled to act in a Star Wars film and besides that he got a nice paycheck - thanks to his buddy)

R2 has a odd/funny circuit malfunction when he detects nepotism.

 

With rumors that most of the Resistance will be killed off with only a handful surviving under Poe's leadership, I wonder will Snap become one of the named victims to up the movie's threat level. Or will he become one of the last Resistance survivors.

Unlike Leia, Ackbar, or Ken Lueng, he's not one of the Reistance top leaders that need to be killed off or comatose so that Poe has to take charge.
But he and Nien are old enough that Poe being left charge is not that big deal since they're still alive to support him.

 

I think it's safe to say that he'll be part of Poe's ragtag crew.
