I'm a fan of the poster for The Force Awakens as it fits with the posters for the Special Editions and the prequels very nicely while having it's own feel (I love my iTunes covers as I have fan done covers for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens as they flow nicely with the official art of the prequel soundtracks).

Just keep doing the same, but fit with the tone of Episode VIII and incorporating new elements and characters.

I would like them to use bloody artwork and not photoshop. Didn't like the new poster, the poster at D23 was better (not that it was good enough as a final poster itself).

The only elements on any of those posters that was photoshopped, are the titles, cast/crew listing and logos. Seriously, you really have to be largely unaware of Drew Struzan's work to mistake any of that for photoshop. They're all hand made with a process using colored pencils, washes acrylic paint and air brushing.

The Force Awakens poster is not hand drawn, it's photoshop. The rest of the posters 1-6 are hand drawn.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Drew Struzan has used the same techniques to make his posters since the 80's. There might be some manipulation after the fact but these images are not created in photoshop. Those are paintings.

EDIT: It appears I am incorrect about Drew Struzan's input on the poster which obviously I didn't know about, it's similar to his style (and plenty of artificacts in the image that show it was done by hand) but there's nothing in this that screams photoshop other than the edges of the image and the titles and maybe the troopers at the bottom, I suppose they might have tweaked with levels and such after the fact but other than that people are just imaging things.

    http://a.dilcdn.com/bl/wp-content/u...0/star-wars-force-awakens-official-poster.jpg

That said it appears the original image was heavily edited for China:

    http://www.dailydot.com/geek/chinese-poster-force-awakens-john-boyega/

But seriously people were saying the same thing about the posters Struzan did for the prequels and other movies in that era. Not photoshopped.

Do you have difficulty reading. The Force Awakens theatrical poster (this one- [IMG] )
is NOT hand drawn. This is not an opinion, this is a fact. The rest of the posters from the saga ARE hand drawn.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster has been digitally worked up from photos to produce a more techical style that probably has a more modern feel – but lacks the charm and emotiveness of Drew's work.

I honestly don't really care. It would have been nice to get another painted one, but that's just not the style these days. It's still a good poster on it's own and it does a decent job of trying to be in the vein of the older ones. And they sure as heck put a lot more effort into it than with a lot of movie posters these days.

GUYS --- even though drew is always going to use his own tehnniques, he will be subjected to the modern ways of making a poster unless given the creative freedoms of what came before .

You dont care? But the people who love arts care about it. TFA poster its a lazy job, such a great movie with this horrible poster.
At least the 4 Imax posters are cool. The ones that I will buy/or print to put next to the CT posters.

Well you'd have to believe that it was "lazy" to begin with, which I don't.

You dont care? But the people who love arts care about it.

Wow, nice condescension there. Really helps your argument (hint not really).

He wasn't on the poster for a very specific reason, which no longer really applies. And given that the very first footage from Episode VIII that they released was a closeup on his face, him not being on the poster seems, unlikely.

I will make up a mock poster tonight just for some ideas on a rough format based on your forums suggestions. Give me some time...

I know some people are not a fan of the TFA poster, but I liked it and I think they should keep that style so the trilogy artwork is consistent. I wasn't a fan of the character posters, but I remember watching the premiere coverage and they had them displayed in light boxes where the neon or lightsaber parts were glowing and that looked really cool. It was also cool that they had different variants of the TFA posters they were able to make with the fact that the poster was made up of elements rather than it being a painting. A cool app Star Wars.com could do, like the crawl creator they have, is to have a design your own poster thing where you could size and place those elements however you liked. That would be fun.

There is a question in there... if you are one who was not happy with the TFA poster, would rather see a new style all together ? Or now that we have it, keep it in the same style so the trilogy artwork is consistent ?

I would like something illustrated, not another blue/orange mess. The placement of characters on the TFA one-sheet was great, but why did they use actual photographs instead of getting Struzan to illustrate?

This is a huge crazy mess, but here is my first unofficial fan poster/layout based off some of your suggestions. This took me over two hours to design and build. Tell me what you think below. You are more than welcome to save this for yourself if you want.

I doubt that you made it by yourself. Are you sure that this is not the official one leaked by Disney? ;)

Yes I can guarantee you this is not official and I made this all on my own for just a random visualization for something to look at until we get something new from Disney in the coming year regarding Episode VIII production.
