Some people writing articles about the new Aftermath: Life Debt book (which is 29~30 years before The Force Awakens) have convinced themselves that Snoke is in it
operating under a different name as Gallius Rax. Perhaps this Gallius Rax fits the description of "an older student of the Emperor"?

I haven't read it entirely yet. Just read excerpts and seen some cropped page scans. For now.

So I guess we wait for Pablo Hidalgo ignoring the question, giving a non-answer, or otherwise confirming/denying.

I doubt they'd have "A CAPTAIN REX" alive and have another one with the same name become Snoke .

So Rax (Snoke?) is a bit like Palpatine's adopted son/protege. That could suggest that Rey may end up Luke's adopted daughter/protege.

If we get any mention at all of Snoke I would think they would save him popping up till the last book in the Aftermath trilogy. Still though, we might not hear about him at all and it wouldn't surprise me.

It would definitely surprise me, as one of the flaws of TFA (although I enjoyed it greatly) is this feeling that Snoke is well-known by people like Leia and Han, but no story is given and thus it appears as he is story device rather than a character. Some backstory is needed greatly.

I think that just comes with the territory. As we can now see with the Aftermath books there was no Lull in the galaxy. Everything has been chaotic since ROTJ so with the ST we are really jumping right into a story thats already heated up and it's about to get hotter. I think Snoke will definitely get explained out for us but I look at the OT and say well at least saw Snoke. We didnt really see much of Palpatine at all until that little clip in ESB and then ROTJ. If it weren't for the PT we wouldnt really have known much at all about Palpatine too. Snoke is much more active in the story than Palps was in the OT right off the bat and I like that.

I don't know who Snoke is (well yes I know who he is in VII but not if he is Plagueis) but I found it slightly funny that he is also Gollum in Lord of the Rings. Good for playing ugly pale things with more significance than it would seem.
Can anyone tell me how to pronounce Plagueis? It sounds dumb but I have no idea.

Haven't you seen Revenge of the Sith? Palpatine mentions his name twice when he speaks with Anakin...

    Watch that.

He isn't going to be Plagueis. Trust me. He wont be. If he is I'll buy ya a beer.

It's my honest opinion that Serkis is the most underrated actor of all time. Because of his motion capture characters, I think few people recognise his face or remember his name, which is a pity because his performance as Gollum is one of my favourites in all of cinema (not to mention playing Caesar and King Kong is nothing to be sniffed at). Here's hoping Snoke becomes a great antagonist with a larger role in future films!

Yes, Andy Serkis is an amazing actor. Can't say I care for the name of his character in the ST, but as long Snoke continues to be awesome that won't matter.

As much as I would like for Snoke to be Darth Plagueis storywise, I get the idea that TPTB think it would undermine "the Chosen One" prophecy (of Anakin destroying the Sith) being fulfilled by bringing the Sith back. If the Sith returning post-RotJ ever happens it won't be for a long while.

I meant no disrepect, I was surprised by your question since the Darth Plagueis scene is, for me, the best scene in that movie and that name stuck with me, I was obsessed with Plagueis after seeing Ep. III

I HOPE Snoke is some form of past Sith Master I have my doubts about that though. My crazy nerd fantasy is that he would be Darth Bane or Darth Tenebrous.
