I'm of the mind that a lot of the backstories we heard in the OT are better off left at that. The Spice Mines of Kessel for example sounded interesting - but in being shown it could be detrimental. I think one of the more successful aspects of the OT (and maybe what was unavoidably detrimental for the PT overall) was in leaving things open to the imagination of the audience.

The Clone Wars, Lando's maneuver at the battle of Taanab and other such stories sound great but when shown, well they can end up below expectations....

Anyway, I'm wondering what background questions or stories we heard of in the OT would you like to see answered and/or expanded upon?

    Personally, mine are as follows:

    1. Why did Yoda go to Dagobah? Yes, it could just be that it was a distant world, that the Empire wouldn't bother looking for a Jedi Master. However, I always thought there could be more. The cave (domain of evil) has a structure to it and in the original TESB script, Dagobah was once home to a Jedi academy.
    2. How did Luke construct his green lightsaber? I thought the PT would have explained this, but alas it did not. Where did Luke find the crystal to power the saber?
    3. How did Kenobi join the Force at will? We were given some snippets of info about this in the PT but really it is a pretty big deal and I think we need to see more.
    4. Did Boba Fett survive? I'm not one of those massive Boba Fett fanboys. But I appreciate the interest in the character (again, probably diminished slightly by the PT story). Let's see if he got out!
    5. What are Bothan spies and what do they look like? (I'm sure the EU probably expanded upon this, but well, that's the EU...

Yes, the cave on Dagobah was man-made and a domain of evil. IIRC, Timothy Zahn had suggested that a dark lord once resided there but that was EU and about it. It had always seemed to me that Yoda's presence somehow balanced the dark energies there (and thus made him undetectable to both Vader and the Emperor). I believe the original ESB script suggested that Yoda had always been on Dagobah, but the PT obviously changed this premise.

    I'd like to add

4a. Did Bossk survive? Either he was knocked out by one of the shutters when Leia short-circuited the barge's controls or he was leaving Jabba's barge to pursue a plan of his own. Personally, I'd prefer the latter.

    6. What did Kenobi mean, when he told Luke in ROJ "Yoda will always be with you". Are we going to see that in the ST or is it a Lucas concept that was abandoned along with other Lucas draft elements for the ST?

Yeah the whole Force ghost thing is pretty vague. I for one can't see the ghosts hanging around forever as that diminishes the effect on the story - for instance, Vader sacrifices himself to save Luke. Luke loses his father. In allowing Anakin to be around forever as a Force ghost both father and son will be able to hang out and bond for an eternity.

I would like to see the explanation behind the Force ghost though. Maybe also why they cannot interfere.

How did Luke train between 2 ESB and RotJ, because seriously, he was pretty good in RotJ and he didn't go back to Dagobah.
He also built a lightsaber and where the heck did he learn how to do that?

I just want to know how something can live through being digested for a 1000 years. What was the purpose of that time frame?

I believe we can safely assume that events depicted in ESB stretched over several weeks, if not months ("slow boat to Bespin"). According to the deleted ESB footage Luke did plenty of lightsaber training with Yoda.

Regarding the lightsaber I have a pet theory: Original storyboards show Luke in a Jawa hostel, yet there is also a particular sketch where you can see that the Jawa stove is pretty identical to the one from Ben's hut in ANH. I believe it was originally planned that Luke returned to Ben's hut - and that's were he found what he needed to assemble his lightsaber in the cave by the Tatooine rendezvous site.

    Tatooine rendezvous point (deleted).jpg

@dannystarwars Apparently wording to brush over the fact that already after three days without water they would have died unless the Sarlacc somehow prolonged the lifespan of its victims.

    We could also add;

4c. Did Dengar survive? Or does nobody care?

Did Sheev splat at the bottom of the Death Star II shaft or did it blow before he hit the bottom, OR was he ash when he hit from the electricity zapping him on the way down?
I hope he turned to ash, mirroring the death of his master Plagueis... yes Plagueis is dead.

Now that you mentioned him he was seen several times in Jabba's palace but not on the sailing barge, IIRC. Quite possible that Dengar operated a skiff, picked up Bossk and both went elsewhere before the battle went "south".

I'd say Boba Fett's greed was his undoing. Possible that Dengar and Bossk were smart enough not to mess with Skywalker.
Boba Fett on the other hand thought he could capture Luke Skywalker and probably collect a big reward from Lord Vader. Maybe that was part of this triumvirate's deal but Dengar and Bossk chickened out?

They both might have turn to ash, but Plagueis did something Sidious did not - he went up in Snoke...

Snoke and Plagueis are not related... but that's something for another thread.

I cannot believe I didn't post the one here that's been really bugging me for the past weeks and I hope the ST provides a clear, straightforward and not "from a certain point of view" answer, i.e. "Yes":

    7. Was Luke really the last of the Jedi according to Yoda and at the time of Yoda's death?

Somewhere I heard a theory. It said that someone evil (And im not sure if they were talking about Snoke, or Plagueis or someone else) took Luke as his apprentice (not for a Sith) but more like a Grey Jedi. That way he learned both dark side stuff and the light. If somebody can find that theory that would be awesome because it makes sense!

Maz Kanata or one of Yoda's species would suffer considerably worse than a human, potentially.

Not completely sure on this, but there was a deleted scene in rotj in which Luke can be seen constructing the lightsaber. I have an action figure from it. I believe I also read that he grew the saber crystal. As to where he learned to do that, the new Marvel comics which are Canon are implying that Luke has been searching for Jedi temples and other lost knowledge even before esb. He also has kenobis personal journal that might have how to build a lightsaber. This can explain how he learned to move things with the force at the start of esb... Ben never taught him that and he obviously didn't learn it from Yoda.

I have a feeling that a lot of the unanswered questions are going to be filled out by the comics and books coming out.

This could be the best answer to Yoda select Dagobah and why didn't Plapatine and Vader didn't pick him out, but also estabilishes the grounds for other force users, Jedi or Sith, to be alive in the Universe and still didn't get recognized because of a strong force presence that hides their presence (is that why the creative team of the ST is taking so much care into Jedi Temples?)

Great thought on Vader and Luke here, both i can almost garantee that Disney will not Talk With or Show any Force Ghost in their movies (raises so many questions) (in my mind it's time to move on from that lame bit of SW story)

Well i think that's a theory getting discarded now, but think Yoda was wrong all along, at least he didn't count with Snoke nor Leia if Leia counts as a Force user or just a Force Sensitive.
