That’s what it feels like to me. Or something else lured out the heroes and Palpatine.

You also got me thinking, what was wiped of C3PO’s memory probably includes conversations between young Anakin and Shmi and stories she told him. Been trying to tie that McGuffin to what we’re seeing in the trailer.

Gonna say "yes" based solely from comments at Celebration. When JJ was showing the still photos, he said something like "These are all from the beginning of the movie," and it looked (to me) like the same planet, the same characters and costuming, etc. So that would put this toward the beginning.

Otherwise I would have guessed it's somewhere mid-way. I don't think this a third act reveal. It would be bizarre to give that away in the teaser.

Most likely. But... what if this quest interests not only the good guys but also Ren?

I was thinking that it's a bit weird seeing his mask being reforged on screen.
We know that some time had passed, and Rey had enough time to reforge the lightsaber...
So why is the mask reforged only now and what is that red material?

Maybe that is the McGuffin, retrived by him and that is what "unleashes" Sidius...
    Something uder those lines...

If so, then I guess the planet is Endor or another planet next to Endor.

It may even be the same planet we'll see at the beginning of the movie.
But if so, then the "good guys" come back there, after whatever they're going to do in the desert planet.
Poe wound is telling I think.

And who is reforging it. It isnt Kylo. You can tell because of the furry arms. So I do believe some significance that it is shown and it isnt being done by Kylo. Does Kylo even know that it is being reforged?

Yup. He's been injured in the Skiff sequence on the desert planet or earlier in a scene on this planet (could be same planet).... does he have the arm injury in any of the images of him on the horse?

The new little droid is with them in the DS shot - wasn't there a rumour they pick him up on some kind of robot planet, or have I just imagined that?

Also, everyone is presuming they are intentionally seeking out the Death Star - what if a) no-one was actually aware any of the Death Star had survived intact and b) our heroes are investigating something else - say the source of Kylo Ren's obsession with Vader... Or where the Knights of Ren have been hanging out - and that leads them to discover the DS remains...?

I was about to say it might simply be some kind of underling he has got to repair it for him...
But you're right - why bother showing that when it would be simpler to just show him with the mask, already repaired from the start - the audience would easily deduce it had simply been "glued" back together.

Also, wonder what's inside Rey's white bag... Looks like she's taking something to the Death Star...?

Does anyone think Rey has her own cave sequence on the desert planet? We get Poe and Finn looking calm but concerned and Finn is holding her staff, the heavy breathing scene and confrontation with the Kylo ship seems almost surreal and dream like. Can you image she makes it crash and when she looks into the wreckage it's herself dead in the cockpit?

I'm wondering if the opening may be a brief quest to repair the broken saber... Seems weird that there is a shot of Rey holding the ignighted saber with everyone else just stood around her on the desert planet...

EDIT: In fact, looking at that pic again, I'm not entirely convinced Rey is the one holding the saber...

Yes, the entire image looks rather odd, but Rey doesn't appear to be holding that light saber. It is almost as if it is levitated. Poe looks pissed as if they fail into a trap or something.

My guess is that it’s probably from the first. 3rd of the films & that they do know there are remains of the Death Star on whatever planet this is (Personally I’m going with Endor) & they were actively searching for the Death Star as it continues eith more Jedi Books or Relics & in doing so they come across Palpatine Setting in motion the events for the rest of the film.
THIS IS OF COURSE PURE SPECULATION & I’m probably way off.:)

There is a thread about this image. The video shows something else that I wont put in this thread because it could be a spoiler.

Now that you mention this and given the look of the planet. I wonder if it is Tattooine. In the deleted scenes from ROTJ, Luke went to Obi Wan's place to construct his new green lightsaber. I wonder if force ghost Luke sends her there to fix it (or construct a similar one) and the FO follows them there.
