(Opinion) Rogue One is peak Star Wars and a brilliant prequel to the OT.

    I just love it.

The whole Jyn & Galen storyline, Krennic being a horrible, condescending and selfish villain, Tarkin being Tarkin, Vader in his castle on Mustafar, Vader being a SITH LORD!, Cassian is such a cool character, K2 is an awesome droid, Raddus is a badass and true hero of the Rebellion, Hera is mentioned + plus The Ghost and Chopper have appearances, badass blind guy with a stick, best space battle ever, brutal and well-choreographed action/fights, gorgeous settings and incredible visual effects, epic musical score, underground/smuggler/espionage type stuff, Baze and his big gun, Bodhi, Leia getting the plans, Death troopers and their weird garbled voice, loads of cool droids, aliens and weirdness, Doctor mangled-face and bum-chin telling the protaganists to watch themselves.....I could go on and on.

Plus the two prequel/tie-in books; Catalyst and Rebel Rising are great, especially Catalyst.

In my book R1 is on the 5th place of all Star Wars movies.

It's definitely a good movie and I also like Cassian, Galen and Krennic. But I have some issues with this movie. The pacing is off, there are too many characters but not enough time to develop them properly. Vader's scenes felt out of placed and kinda forced. And last but not least the soundtrack doesn't click with me.

On the other hand the visuals are great (IMO it's the best looking SW movie ever), there is some great action and the movie has done a good job explaining how the Rebels got the plans aka it's a successful prequel.

Agreed, for me R1 hits on all cylinders and is the best film of the Disney era so far.

I watched for the first time recently since I saw in theaters. I went out and bought it because I liked it and had been wanting to rewatch it lately.

It's a damn good movie, maybe the best Star Wars movie ever made. It's just so well done.

Totally agree. Rogue One is the only Disney film that I allow into my head canon.

Rogue One is my third favorite Star Wars movie. It truly has the feeling of an honest attempt to recreate the universe GL presented back in '77. It legitimately achieves the level of intrigue and escapism which drew me to Star Wars in the first place.

Movie looked gorgeous, but besides the last 30 minutes it was really forgettable imo.

This might just be my affinity for Rogue One due to the fact that it was the first Star Wars film I saw in theaters (I became a fan in 2016), but I absolutely love it!

Some people think it's boring, but I like how it takes its time to get to the action.

Some people think that the characters were underdeveloped, and I can see where that's coming from, there's quite a few characters we don't know anything about, such as Bodhi, but it's enough for me to really care about them.

People say that Vader should've been there instead of Tarkin expect for maybe one scene, but the fact that Tarkin was there so much doesn't bother me. I agree though that his CGI was quite bad and so was the CGI for Leia.

I love the characters, the story and the emotion, and of course the third act was breathtaking.

Honestly? Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie after ESC and ANH

I rank it right after the OT (ahead of the PT and ST), but I still like Solo alittle bit more. The one phrase I use for R1 to describe to friends: Solid SW film. It's just a solid SW film, that has an adult tone all the way through and had the guts to kill the whole cast. I like Solo more because of the characters, but that doesn't diminish R1 because the story better than Solo's. The PT & ST movies have their upps and downs (The problem is the downs REALLY bring the movies down), but R1 is just solid the whole way through.

I still love that opening shot when Krennic's ship is flying in looking for the Galen (as the sound of his ship gives me goosebump) cause it's a classic SW sound!

R1 is everything I imagined SW could be, I only wish that Chirrut had more hand to hand fighting sequences! The Cassian series is probably more exciting for me right now than anything else they have announced (with RJ's trilogy close behind). Hopefully they can keep the gritty, in the trenches feel of the film and make Cassian even more of a badass

Agreed! It was the best experience I've ever had in the cinema. I ended up crying and people went nuts. I love every SW movie, but RO is definetly one of the best.

In terms of tone, I think RO captures Star Wars better than any Disney-era film. But I don't think it's the best of the Disney-era films. For me, TFA still holds that spot, even though I admit it's not as true-to-tone as RO.

I can't give this post enough likes - WELL SAID!!!

I consider Rogue One to be 100% saga. I call it Ep 3.9

RO gets - to a much lesser degree - the same unfair criticism BvS had IMO. Both films had necessary build-up to establish the characters and - even more-so - the plot. Rogue One did a better job of pacing - obviously. But ... yeah ..... I don't get that complaint at all.

I want to love Rogue One so much but I just... can't. And I don't like that feeling because it's the only SW film that I don't love to some degree. I've given it so many chances and it just doesn't pull me in. Even the third act, which is lauded by even those who don't like the movie much doesn't do it for me. By the time we get to Scarif I kinda just wanna turn it off.

But the movie does have some high points. First, it's beautifully shot, the film is absolutely gorgeous. Krennic is one of my favorite Star Wars characters. I also very much enjoyed the performances of Mads Mikkelsen and Donnie Yen. "Are you kidding me? I'm blind" is a genuine laugh out loud moment and that's another thing I think the film has going for it, it's funny, just the right amount and just the right kind of funny. I think as far as the Disney SW films go, it handles humor the best.

I think they had to have Leia there at the end. The movie is essentially a tragedy - everyone dies. So having Leia there with the one word ... "Hope" ....was the only way to end it IMO. Was the CGI perfect? .... nope. But I believe it was as good as it could have been.

And I don't see it - "Vader instead of Tarkin"?!? That would not have meshed with Ep IV at all. Tarkin had to be there. And again, the CGI was as good as it could have been done IMO.

Wasn't a fan of the CGI Tarkin and Leia, nor was I a fan of Vaders Dad joke but that is it in terms of criticisms, loved this movie.

Gotta say this is my favorite Star Wars film of the Disney era, and it's not even close! As others have noted, I don't get the "pacing" criticism. Seriously? There needed to be a build up as they put the pieces on the board and give SOME explanation of who these people are.

As for the Vader scene, again, I'm not sure how anyone can criticize it. Felt tacked on??? Have you seen Darth Maul in Solo? Talk about feeling tacked on. Hey lets just have him ignite his lightsaber incase you don't remember this guy from the Phantom Menace.

And both Catalyst and the novelization of the film are really good. If only the other SW films Disney has made were as good as this.
