Will we learn about the origins of the Jedi and Sith? Is this something we should want to know or should it be left a mystery or for books?

Depends.. If it's something relevant to whatever Snoke's ambition is.. it could be worth a brief explanation "in movie".

But if Snoke's just a CGI version of Palpy then forget it.

I think it depends on what road they take the Knights of Ren with. If they're older than the Jedi and Sith, then, yes. If not, then I kind of doubt it for a movie - or at least a "Star Wars Skywalker Saga" movie. Maybe if Yoda got a movie then they could explore it.

Check out @Revanite's theory on the Knights of Ren. IMHO, this theory is the most compelling as it links the Jedi, Sith and KOR together.

It would be interesting, but isnt that already established in say SW The Old Republic Game? But, it might be easier to do that wish Yoda, since he has been around for almost 1000yrs, granted that the Jedi have been around longer, but it could be explored in that manner much more?

I can see vague references here and there... but nothing more than just a tickle. The same as it was in the OT and even the PT, with most of it being explained in the books and/or comics.

It's definitely something we need to see, like a 'Game of Thrones' style TV show would be epic.

Well we do find Luke on that Island. If that is the first jedi temple I reckon the Jedi began as a sort of mystic ascetical movement with small groups of individuals travelling across the galaxy (peregrinatio, as practiced by the actual Irish monks who lived on Skellig Michael) and settling in remote places to get away from the civilized world to focus exclusively on the nurturing of the soul and the force. It can even be that the early Jedi were hunted like heretics or freaks. It would be an awesome tv-show!

IF we do then it will see Luke Skywalker showing Rey old holoceons from the first Jedi temple as well as Analon Skywalker (this would be Hayden Christensenms brief cameo) about what happened to the Jedi and shows Eey how to keep her powers in check and struck like that .

Just like all humans have some unify connection, so too do the Jedi and Sith, and I think that idea will be shown at the Skelling Michael island with the first Jedi Temple. We've already seen how TCW, Rebels, Star Wars comics, and all media has been showing there is more than a single temple in the galaxy, so to think a very ancient, humble connection is where both the Jedi and Sith started from, before eventually splitting, is the most Episode VIII will show to us. More than anything, I agree with @Trevor, that the real gritty and detailed stuff will be in novels or comics or something. However, I think the outline of the beginnings and a split will be in Episode VIII in some form. As far as we know, something powerful than every understood could have caused the two sides to form.

In the old Canon, the Jedi order was some 25,000 years old. Now I don't know how they're going to reconcile that with the new Canon, but it will be at least several thousand years old. I figure that if anything, there might be a brief overview to Rey about who the Jedi are, and/or have been, but not a history lesson before our eyes as it would take too much time. An anthology movie on the subject would be fantastic though! :)

Figuring that Luke at the First Jedi temple, I'm sure we'll get some backstory as to why he's there.

If they do still plan on doing SW shows for Netflix, it would make sense for them to tie those series in with the films somehow. There are worse ways of laying the groundwork for a SW show about the origins of the Jedi than planting some curiosity in the audience using hints in episodes VIII and IX.

Over in MCU, Disney has had good luck so far making shows on Netflix that are somewhat removed from the grand narrative of the movie franchise. Daredevil and Jessica Jones don't, so far, have much to do with the major Avengers/Thanos storyline around which everything else revolves. Doing a SW series set in the ancient past would similarly allow for some distance between the Netflix series and the films.

Of course, all of this is based on an analogy between SW and Marvel. But I can't believe that the Lucasfilm folks won't take into account the various things that have worked so well for Marvel....

Considering that a big deal is made of Luke seeking out the first Jedi Temple, I do believe that the origin of the Jedi will be revealed in VIII and/or IX.
