Since most fans hated TLJ, and by extension Rian Johnson, when do you think Disney will be cowed by the blowback and take back the offer for Rian to do further Star Wars films?

Since he has no clue about how to handle a tentpole franchise (obviously) his time here is done.

As TLJ isn't even a 'movie' (much less a SW movie) how long will it be before KK has him taken off any further projects?

(Total satire. I loved the sh1t out of TLJ, but I'm just reading posts of others and trying to assimilate with the cool kids)

I don't mind you not liking it! Not at all! I just hope you weren't one of the 'I left after the first ten minutes because it failed out of the gate' crowd.

I probably don't like the ones you like too. (What am I saying? I like all Star Wars movies)

Also, I'm SO sorry for liking a film you hated. I'm sorry for letting you down that way.

Beware of the IMDB trolls and review bots.
I think it is safe that fans are divided.... but, I am not sure if it is because of the quality of the film VS the way RJ pushed the Star Wars Saga (and the treatment of some of the holy cows).

The question I am asking myself is more:

    - Is Star Wars now becoming more than movies into Religion territory
    - Then, will it still be possible to produce a Star Wars movie in the future.

I know I will be hated for that but... If I was Lucasfilm, maybe I would just go: Let the fans create their own Star Wars movies in their heads in the future. Let's invest in something else, Star Wars is now too big and risky to move, let's just work on spin-offs, cartoons, videogames.

Its a possibility. And I am being serious Lucasfilm/Disney is skittish as Blast with star wars what have we had 3 directors pulled from their projects? I don't hate this movie. I am not a big fan of the sequel trilogy story line in general. But I enjoyed the film a lot more than TFA and I would rather Rian Johnson then JJ reboot abrhams.

Only if it bombs at the box office this weekend:confused:, or doesn't make at least a billion dollars overall domestic/international, and if the backlash doesn't stop, and continues to simmer as we approach SOLO marketing season. She might make an unfortunate announcement, hey you never know RJ may reconsider after all the backlash, he can go onto other films...

Rian is Luke projecting himself to some disgruntled fans who are like Kylo. Strike it down and it will become even more powerful.

    Trilogy is still gonna happen.

I understand the sarcasm of the original post. But I'll answer it sincerely anyways. They won't pull it. The ones that disliked it are a very vocal minority. VERY VERY vocal apparently. And hey, cool...they are passionate about Star Wars. But it's not going to lead to them canning Rian. No way. This backlash is waaaay overblown. We live in an echo chamber on here.

And I remember reading from the anti-TFA crowd that Rian was going to be the savior of SW.
Funny to look back at those comments now....

My point exactly! The right people/critics love the living pee out of this film. It's got flaws, but so does every SW film. ALL of them. Even your golden calf ESB has flaws. Face it bro, it has flaws (and it's the best movie of all time....seriously....my favorite movie of all time)

I was just stunned that BEFORE TLJ was even released, the hate machine started grinding away. I'm cool with it usually, but this movie is a special treat that I hate to see bashed by basement-boys biding their time between Uber gigs.

It's pretty amazing to see the buildup (This looks amazing!!!) to this (this isn't even a 'movie!')

"Worst....movie....ever" as if Showgirls or Glitter didn't exist. Worst movie ever? Go do your Uber!!

Hiliarious for real! Considering he made a much better movie (I LOVE TFA btw) but this was a better film all around. Hate it all you want, and you will, but this was much more satisfying all around.

All joking aside, I think it is possible he could lose the next trilogy, yes. That's the way of things now, unfortunately. Perhaps he'll be asked to direct only 1. That would be a mistake in my opinion, because he's a fantastic director. The issue with him is the writing and a possible lack of understanding of star wars and its characters. Would be more than happy to see him direct all 3 with someone else writing.

    @dudebrohomie

I haven't seen it yet, but it sure sounds like TLJ is a totally different SW movie. Pretty sure that's what the anti-TFA crowd wanted, but whatever....

I seriously will bet you any amount of money that Rian Johnson will NOT be removed from his new trilogy.

Internet trolls do not matter to Disney/LFL. They've been at this game for a while and know how it works. We all do. Popular movie comes out = vocal minority bullying online = .....nothing.

    RJ is totally safe

Basement-dwellers who see the film once (and secretly love it) then flame online to gather clicks mean nothing. That may be too kind, they mean less than nothing. TLJ is at worst the second best film in the series.

RJ's new trilogy is completely safe.

Hopefully that's the case. Visually I don't think there's many out there who could match what he's capable of. Like I said I don't think he quite has the same talent in the writing stakes so personally would like him directing with someone else writing. Interesting to see what it's going to be about, and when it will be set. Hopefully there's some news on that soon.

Irregardless of my jest earlier.. You actually can't pull Rian Johnson from that trilogy. Or even pull that trilogy itself. LFL is going to want to do another trilogy to gap the ST and FT..
And let's face it, Rian Johnson is the only director Kathleen Kennedy can tolerate outside of JJ. You're getting rid of her if you're getting rid of him.
Hey, at least this time he'll have to build the house before he smashes it down.:p

Glad we can agree! I thought all of what he did was fine, but I appreciate a good discussion. Here's to Episode 9!!

It is.. without spoiling, I would describe it as The Dark Knight Rises of Star Wars. A deconstruction..

As vocal as I am regarding things I like and didn't like in TLJ, I want his trilogy to move forward. TLJ will grow with us until Episode IX comes out and I am sure KK and Lucasfilm know it too well how TESB was initially received ( divided ). I love the idea of a Rian Johnson trilogy, I always loved the idea, and I don't think it is fair for him if I would take back my praise and words for him in the past just because I did not agree with the directions he took in TLJ. The actions he took now, may be controversial but it will all be clearer and understandable as we sit in that theatre 2 years from now.

Oh plus, hopefully he could learn from some of his mistakes in TLJ and give his very best ( like how he did TLJ ) when writing and directing his trilogy. :)
