I got another idea I came up with, canon or fanon whatever you decide.

What if in his blind pain and anguish Anakin reached out blindly in the Force to survive, the ultimate Sith teaching, and in this blind semi-conscious state he found a lifeforce willing to give of itself to him. The thing that the doctor says on Polis Massa is "she is perfectly healthy" but for some reason is dying anyway, not that there was one of several medical reasons for her death.

Ok you probably get where this is going, Anakin unwittingly drained the life from Padme in order to survive. As his primal instinct to survive and his Sith passion for life intermingled with his incredible power and attunement to the Force he destroyed the very thing he was trying to protect.

I always took it as the Emperor just lying to Vader to twist his mind some more. He didn't know Padme was dead any more than Vader did, and just wanted to get a rise of the old Dark Lord...

The problem with what you're saying is that the movie itself goes out of its way to say that everything went fine medically, nothing about brain damage or injuries or any such thing, it even has a medical droid tell us this. As for Palpatine wanting her alive, that makes no sense, while he used her to manipulate Anakin masterfully, her living on would always be a reminder of his past life as Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight, thus being a great threat to his plans for Anakin(let alone his plans for the Empire). A living Padme would be a great catalyst to potentially bring Anakin back from the Dark side, and also provide a potential figurehead for opposition against Palpatine's new Galactic Empire. I'm not saying that we know for sure that Palpatine killed her himself, but I have no doubt that he would have done so at some point had she lived.

I like the idea a lot. My Dad and I were having a conversation after Ep 2. I asked him how he thought Padme would die in 3. He replied, "I don't know, but you can bet Palpatine will be behind it." I always felt that Palpy was going to be behind it before seeing 3. Also, I thought he was going to pin it on the Jedi.

It must have been caught on CCTV!

This whole topic has made me start thinking about this. I always assumed that it was to do with the force choke, who knows what the side effects are of a choke.

It will always anger me that the only stated reason for her death is that she "lost the will to live". A lot of the theories here are excellent, but on film, it will always be that lame reason, and one which totally goes against the character they'd built her up to be. True, she lives for others (her people), but even if you take it as fact that a person can simply 'lose the will to live', what kind of person wouldn't live for her children?

I don't care about midichlorians and Gungans. What Lucas did to Padme in Revenge of the Sith is his greatest failure as a storyteller.

I definitely agree on that front. If she just "gave up" knowing she had two children that were just brought into the world, that is truly a stain on her character. I love Lucas for the world he gave us, but he definitely could have written at least large parts of the PT better. Also, I say this as a person who loves the entire saga. I'm not a PT hater.

Me neither. I grew up with the prequels, and despite their faults, I genuinely loved them when they came out. Padme was my favorite character, because she was driven; in fact, if you watch Episode I, she's really the only character with an actual drive and purpose at all! But the Padme in Episode III is an almost completely different character. I'm very thankful the Clone Wars show redeemed her, in that respect.

I remember being 100% certain that Palpatine would kill Padme with Force lightning behind Anakin's back, so that when re-watching Return of the Jedi, we'd realize that Vader was figuring out what had happened to his wife. I almost expected the next Special Edition to include a quick flash of Padme instead of Luke.

Messi I'm sorry but I'm not entirely convinced your not talking to me.

If you could do me the courtesy of quoting any of my posts you have found unclear I will be more than happy to elucidate. :)
