Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is coming to a galaxy far, far away!

Kathleen Kennedy announced today at the Disney Investor Day presentation that Patty Jenkins is directing Rogue Squadron, an upcoming Star Wars feature film. No details were revealed except that the film will focus on the beloved Rogue Squadron popularized in the original trilogy.

Jenkins posted a short video on Twitter regarding the announcement:

    https://twitter.com/PattyJenks/status/1337177394625478656

Jenkins references her father, an Air Force pilot, in the touching video. She wanted to make a movie that took advantage of her love of flying and Star Wars and now she has her chance. The movie will debut during Christmas 2023, which means it will be shooting in 2022 most likely. Before that, Jenkins is known to have involvement in both Wonder Woman 3 and a spinoff focusing on the Amazons.

Jenkins directed both Wonder Woman and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, which will debut day and date on HBO Max this Christmas.

    This is outstanding news!

KK said it's about a "new generation" of pilots, so hopefully it will be set around or after the ST. That T-70 silhouette seems to suggest this as well.

The first Star Wars video game I ever bought was one of the Rogue Squadron series. In the words of The Chosen One...this is where the fun begins.

I’m excited to see it; I’m leaning more towards it bridging the gap between the OT and the ST than being set after TROS.

I have to say that this was straight out of left field; I sure wasn’t expecting a Rogue Squadron flick to be the next Star Wars film on the big screen.

I enjoyed WW but the villain and the ending could have been done a bit better... anywho, Looking forward to WW84 on x-mas maybe I'll be more excited for this then. I know she is definitely going with the Legends take, but Alphabet squadron would be good too. I'm glad KK finally found the director she was looking for... it's been a long journey KK spoke of this on numerous occasions.

The ending was a studio note. It's painfully obvious that isn't where Jenkins wanted to take it because it's nothing like the rest of the movie.

Ok cool, big WW fan I collect the DC comic book, Brian Bolland's take on WW is for me the best. If you want to read some good WW, Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chang's run is a superb read. I have the absolute edition.

The final fight in WW is so bad. But everything else is so good. I refuse to believe it's actually Jenkins' work. It just looks and feels like a studio decision.

The only part of the ending that resonated with me is when Steve Trevor became one with the force... I gotta see how they bring him back. Also Greg Rucka's run is a must read as well.

Am glad she's finally here. I wanted her so badly to have written Rey's story. But she's home now it's great to have her sign on and I for one are looking forward with great interest.

My rating of WW is 4/10. Not quite a good movie but definetly not the worst.

Am so excited cause it's a new SW movie but this "patriotic" touch confuses me.
Hope the movie will not become a military flyer.

A little bit underwhelmed. I was hoping for something a bit more epic and galaxy changing based around trained force users for the next star wars film. This kind of implies another motly gang of none force users on a mission sort of film which seems to be Disney's default formula for star wars. For me it lacks a bit of ambition.

I was hoping for something like a film based before the rule of two with a Jedi vs Sith War. Or the Jedi vs Mandalorian War or Origins of the Jedi or Origins of the Rule of Two or even KOTOR. So this feels a bit small scale and filler compared to that kind of scale. Still X-wings on a mission is always fun.
