Picking nits - why didn't Finn just use the other cannon turret?

he didn't know it was there and Rey was a bit preoccupied to tell him? or maybe the top cannon isnt there any more? or could be it just didn't fit with the script

 

Simple, only Rey knows the ship. She didn't tell him he could go up for an alternate gun position. She said: "Gunner position is down there", how then could Finn know that there is an alternate cannon right above him . Rey made a mistake, but made an elaborate manoeuvre to set it straight.

 

You saw the way Rey was flying that, do you really think he could've got there? BB-8 was flying all over the joint.

 

Agree with @Quill ... I can't remember, did he strap himself down in any fashion?

Also... how do the turrets work and the tunnel? I mean, he used the bottom one didn't he? It might be difficult to get into the top one in a strong gravity field like they were. The brief time we see them in the use during the OT leaves it unclear... as they are decently far from any planets and the way they get in and change orientation is rather... weird.

 

ya, didn't you see BB-8 flying all around the cockpit when she was doing maneuvers...I doubt Finn would have been able reach the top one with all that going on.

 

Yeah, I agree, Rey was flying the ship extremely hard and he didn't know.

 

There is also a goof I believe in the scene where Rey turns the ship. In the pursuit Finn controls the below turret, but when she does her manoeuvre to position Finn's stuck gun the top turret fires. Did anyone else notice?

I think this whole thread should be Picking Nits! Like why wouldn't Kylo just interrogate Poe on Jakku? He had him taken to his Star Destroyer, had other officers question him, and then he commends Poe for resisting interrogation. 30 seconds after he mind probes him, he's know about BB-8. Kylo isn't very bright.

 

Well, thirty seconds in movie time. Who knows how long he spent without movie magic? Maybe hours.

Also, I think it's more about getting his way anyways. And his way involved being locked in someplace he felt comfortable... which could show a bit a vulnerability on his part.

 

He mind probed Rey on Takodana but the Resistence showed up so he couldn't finish. It's to setup Poe's escape scene. Nothing more. A small nit pick.

 

He just likes to torture people. He got that fetish after seeing Fifty Shades of Grey four times in cinema.

 

Yeah, I can see it being used just for Poe's escape (and Finn's defection), but you could also at least assume that the Resistance would have their agents conditioned against interrogation to some degree, and Kylo would probably have been aware of that. Might have started to attempt probing him there (as he stares at him) but found it to be futile at that moment. Just like Vader not even attempting to probe Leia (who he believed to be a prominent member of the Rebellion) and instead sending her away for a later probing.

Rey on the other hand was scared and rattled by her flashback experience, hence vulnerable... just as Luke was vulnerable when Vader was able to probe his mind in ROTJ. Also, she had no training against such measure. Kylo only got a taste and then, like you said, was interrupted. Later on he started to have better success, but a sort of defense mechanism within her kicked on once it touched on those things she held most dear to her.

 

How is Rey, someone who lived on Jakku for most of her life, able to tolerate the cold and snow of Starkiller Base without a nice warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves? Even Chewbacca - a hairy wookiee - complained of feeling cold.

 

Or Any given movie, EVER.
