Now we have Dubrovnik which has some nearby sites that could pass for Ahch-to. But I wouldn't mind seeing a medieval looking town in the Star Wars universe.

Well TFA is already CGI fest.
And if CGI is needed to create planets that look alien and new... THEN GO FOR IT!!!

To me Dubrovnik looks like Naboo. And I hope it is a Naboo.

    It is not.

Actualy Dubrovnik was nemesis of Venice. The largest competitor of Venice in trade.
For 500 years ( until 19. century ) Dubrovnik area was independent wealthy country called ''The Republic of Ragusa''.

It could be a part of the same system that Naboo is in .

Why would they go back to Naboo though?

Padmé's remains are now scattered sediment in the bottom of a river bed. Palpatine is a bunch of exploded atoms scattered above the Forest Moon of Endor. Maybe there's another Naboo native we're forgetting about?

Confirmed: Jar Jar to return in Episode VIII !

Luke and Leia living family are on Naboo. Naboo people are Luke and Leia people.
Also survivors from Alderaan are settled on Naboo and Leia is their princess.

Soo Naboo is important planet for Skywalker family.

most of it's inhabitants later medieval Dubrovnik were Venetian and North Italian. It's medieval and early renaissance culture is Venetian ;) That's what I meant it's culture not its political development in the past 1500 years.

    That is not true.
Dubrovnik was never inhabited by Venetians and North Italians.

Dubrovnik is founded in the 7th century by Croats and Greeks.
At the beginning there where 2 cities. Croat ''Dubrava'' at the shore and Greek ''Laus'' on the Island.
In the 12th century two cities ''Dubrava'' and ''Laus'' merged into one city ''Ragusa/Dubrovnik''.
Sea canal between 2 cities is filled and become the main street ''Stradun''.

Greeks from Laus where assimilated in Croatian culture.

From 14-19th century Dubrovnik area was independent wealthy country called ''The Republic of Ragusa''.
It was one of several croatian republics ( different croatian tribes ).

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ragusa

Also Venice is on the north of Adriatic, Dubrovnik is on the South of Adriatic near southern Italy.

Dubrovnik has Mediterranean culture. Very similar to other Mediterranean countries.

Also Dubrovnik got its final look after 1667. earthquake. City was rebuild in Baroque style.

Neither. Probably the First Order capital, based on the very severe-looking costumes. Could be the Republic, too, I guess, if they choose to portray it that way. Wouldn't think they would want to, though...

I'd like this trilogy to return to at least one prequel planet (Naboo, ideally) and also for them to switch it up. The prequels had... debatable quality, but the diversity in terrain (especially in Revenge) was great to see. I'd love a return to one of the less CGI-laden planets, like Kashyyyk, Utapau, or even Cato Neimoidia, which had a very cool design.

The costumes remind me of that virus can't opera. House scene but on Naboo since Naboo has the most earthly - alien feel to it with a more classic Italian/European architecture but with less columns which is Naboo's main architectural detail .
