Here's the 3.75" TFA Elite Speeder Bike and Stormtrooper-

This is one of the best vehicle and figure combinations yet. The speeder bike, as I thought, uses the core engine and frame of the excellent 2012 Hasbro Endor Speeder Bike. However, the re-use of parts ends there. The rest of the bike is all new, and very nicely rendered with a striking black and red paint job.

It features movable foot pedals, handlebars, and the rear flaps are hinged and can be posed up or down. The hood lifts to show a detailed engine, there is an OT style swiveling blaster on the underside, and the front double barrel blaster cleverly swings down to double as a front landing gear, so the bike sits nice and level. Although this new bike does not include a display stand, since it uses the core of the 2012 Bike, it has the receptacle on the back to accept the display stand that came with that version.

The included Elite Stormtrooper is not a standard Trooper simply molded in black. It is a completely different figure and it features 9 points of articulation instead of 5. The figure comes with a black Blaster Pistol that fits snugly in the hand, as well as in the carrier receptacle on the right leg. The figure fits the bike well, with both feet attaching securely to the pegs on the foot pedals, and both hands gripping the handlebars tightly.

I can find no faults with this vehicle and figure. They're packed with detail and features, and look great. So far, this is my favorite TFA Vehicle/Figure set.

I stopped by TRU yesterday and found some of the items I didn't find on Force Friday. One of those items is the 3.75" Hasbro SF TIE Fighter w/pilot.

    Here's the review-

I've been reading various online reviews of the new TIE, and many of them mentioned that the wings/solar panels were warped, sometimes badly, and I've seen some photos that back up that complaint. Well, I bought two TIE's yesterday, and both have wings that are straight and square with no warping at all. Perhaps I got lucky twice, but I'm more inclined to think that Hasbro has remedied the problem, and these two TIE's are examples of their corrections.

The ship comes partially disassembled, with the main fuselage, wings, hatch, lower gun turret, antenna array, and main blaster (missile) barrels needing to be attached/assembled. Everything quickly snaps tightly together. The wings have the spring loaded pop off wing feature we've seen on TIE's of the past. The wings fit into their receptacles in a more precise fit than some of the older TIE's, and have no droop or problems with wobbling. The fuselage assembly is very solid, and substantial. The wings are made of a more pliable type of plastic, but as I mentioned, mine are nice and straight, and hold their shape just fine.

The ship has some simple, but neat features. The two main laser cannons have painted muzzles, with the rest of the barrels being a translucent green. There is a red button on the underside that launches them with a fair amount of force, and the clear green makes it look like green blaster bolts being fired. The ship also has the twin barreled cannon mounted on the underside, and it rotates 360 degrees.

The antenna array rotates, and the antennas, which look like gun barrels, are hinged. The top hatch obviously opens, and there is a nifty little rack on it's inner surface that holds two blaster pistols. This TIE is a two seater, but unlike the back to back seating of the large 6" BS TIE, the pilot and tail gunner in this version sit side by side with one facing forward and one back. Two figures fit easily. Although there isn't much in the way of paint apps in the cockpit, there is some nice button and switch detail (which I plan to detail paint). The overall paint apps and molded colors are clean and smooth.

The included pilot figure has 5poa, and the helmet is removable. The pilot has a blaster pistol, but no carrying receptacle on the leg like the Stormtroopers have, hence the neat two gun stowage rack (one for the pilot, one for the gunner) inside the hatch. The figure is a nice sculpt, with clean paint apps.

So, is it worth the $40 price tag? In my opinion, yes. It's a solid, good looking vehicle with many features, and the included pilot is one of the best pack-in figures to come out so far. Highly recommended.

Here's my review of the Hasbro 3.75" FO Snowspeeder w/figure-

The FO Snowspeeder is a simple, straightforward design, as is the toy version of it. The vehicle does not have the variety of working features that the previously reviewed TIE Fighter has, but it is still a nicely made vehicle. Basically, the front landing skid is retractable, the spring loaded blaster cannon fires a red blaster bolt, and the cannon can be dismounted from the vehicle and used separately on it's own tripod.

The molded in detail of the ship is quite nice overall, and the vehicle is molded in different subtle metallic shades to break up the monotone overall metallic grey color. The stowage in the front of the vehicle has some nice paint apps.

Overall quality is very good, and it's a solid, somewhat heavy piece. The included Snowtrooper is really the highlight of this set. The figure has 5poa, and the backpack is removable. The paint apps on the figure are the best i've seen so far, and the MQuarrie Snowtrooper insignia, or emblem, is sharply printed on the chestplate. The figure comes with the Sterling based blaster which has the AR-15 type of telescoping stock attached to the rear of the receiver. It's the same blaster Phasma carries, painted in the standard FO Trooper black and white.

The figure fits in the driver's seat perfectly, and the hands line up with and grip the controls tightly. The figure can also stand and fire the cannon with one foot mounted to a peg on the floor of the speeder, and his hands on the gun grips.

It's not a spectacular vehicle, but I do like the simple utilitarian nature of the design. It looks good on the shelf, the included figure is excellent, and I think it's worth the $30 price tag. Recommended.

And on a different front, here's some closeups I took of the new K-Wing and E-Wing miniatures from Fantasy Flight-

I finished up a fun project today.

A couple of years ago, I was at TRU and noticed a single TRU Exclusive Hasbro 3.75" TIE Interceptor on clearance. The price was right, so I bought it. It's a nice replica made with some nicely molded components, but the paint apps were quite messy. The non-painted areas of bare plastic molded in the light blue-grey color were full of swirls of a darker color plastic, and were awfully shiny. Also, the plastic was semi-translucent, and you could see light shining through thin areas of the wings.

Since it's my all time favorite SW ship, I got it on the cheap, and the basic parts were good quality and of accurate proportions, I decided to keep it and one day do a full re-paint. The project is now done.

I ended up completely disassembling the ship, and in addition to a new paint job, I also made some modifications. The spring loaded "pop off" wings were a very loose fit, and would sag as soon as you pick the ship up. I made some thin nylon sleeves on the lathe, and modified the mounting points to take the sleeves. The wings still have the pop-off feature, but the fit is now tight enough to keep the wings straight and square.

I also added some "greebly" details, mostly in the wing-fuselage joint area, and in the cockpit. I used a variety of pirated appropriate looking pieces from a couple of Tamiya 1/700 battleship models, some Grandt Line miniature bolts, and some raw Plastruct styrene sheet cut into various shapes.

With the greebly work done, I primed the main components with an adhesion promoting self-etching epoxy primer, and painted the ship with various custom mixed Tamiya acrylics shot through a Paasche airbrush. Once the paint was thoroughly cured, I finished things off with a clear coat mixture of 75% Testors Dullcoat and 25% Gloss.

As most of the TIE Fighters we see onscreen are immaculate, I did not add any of my usual weathering. I did some detail painting in the cockpit, touched up the paint apps on the pilot and the ejection seat, and she was ready for reassembly.

I'm happy with the results. She's a big beast!

YES! YES! Finally! 6 Captain Phasma and Poe Dameron. This was a long hunt, I almost gave in and paid 75$ for Phasma alone on the seconday market. Glad I held off! Found these at Walmart, lucky pull as someone else was checking them when I got there (only two Phasmas and 3 Poes when I got there). 6" collection is growing steadily, still on the lookout for Palpatine but I hope to find him tomorrow at a Toy Con here in Montreal. Given my budget, I also decided to focus on pivotal characters from TFA+troopers. Toys'R'Us exclusive snowtrooper is HIGH on my want list.

    They are mine! MINE!
To anyone struggling with that VERY tight ball joint in the neck to retrieve the shoulder plate: just dip the upper part of the figure in very warm water. Pull, and voila! You can now have a snowtrooper AND stormtrooper officer! :)

I picked up the Revell 1/50 scale SF TIE Fighter at Target yesterday. Here's my review-

This model is part of Revell's "Build and Play" line of kits. These are pre-painted snap together kits intended for younger model builders.

The parts are not attached to sprues like a traditional kit. The larger parts are neatly arranged in a clear plastic tray to prevent them from banging around in shipment, and the small pieces are in a couple of small plastic bags. The clear parts are in their own separate bags, protecting them from being scratched up, a very nice touch.

The first thing I noticed was the extremely clean and crisp molded parts with nearly flawless paint apps, and crystal clear windows with sharp framework paint apps. The components are very solid and substantial, and are made of a very high quality ABS type of plastic.

The model has a couple of neat working features. The canopy/hatch opens affording a good view of the well detailed cockpit. In the cockpit, and on the instrument panel there are a couple dozen small open slots. More on these slots later. The kit also features lights and sound effects. The electronics are cleverly built into the interior/cockpit module, and there is a small button that pokes out on the underside of the fuselage which you press to activate the effects. The included small watch type batteries are already installed, and can be easily changed via a small panel on the back of the ship held shut by a small screw.

There are 3 sound effects. Pressing the button activates blaster cannon sounds, an explosion sound, and my favorite, the shreiking engine sound. The sound effects are surprisingly loud and clear, and sound exactly like what we hear in the films. In conjunction with the sounds, a soft red LED in the cockpit lights up, and the light is channeled through all those open slats I mentioned. The effect looks like the dozens of glowing red bars of light that we've seen in cockpit shots in the films. The effect works surprisingly well.

Assembly was a breeze, taking about 15 minutes. The fit of the parts is nearly flawless, and when you snap them together, they really lock in place well. The engineering, fit, and finish of this "kid's model" is something to behold. I was also surprised by the size. In 1/50 scale, this is a fairly large model. The finished kit is one of the nicest TIE Fighters available in any scale, and is one of the best TFA specific products to come out to date.

For less than $20, you get a beautiful and screen accurate TIE replica that has a level of quality and working features that are completely out of proportion to it's low price. This model is a most pleasant surprise. I love it. Highly recommended!

To go with the TIE Fighter review, here's my review of the Revell 1/78 scale Poe X-Wing kit.

Like the TIE Fighter, the X-Wing is part of Revell's Build and Play line. The T-70 parts come already removed from their molding sprues, trimmed, and held in a clear plastic tray. The small parts are in a plastic bag, and the canopy is bagged by itself to avoid scratches.

The parts are cleanly molded in a durable ABS type of plastic, and are pre-painted. The paint apps are very sharp, and look good. Molded in detail is also surprisingly good, with cleanly engraved panel lines and other details that closely match those of the ships we've seen in stills and the trailers. There is one rather noticeable error. The semi-circular attachments near the muzzles of the 4 blaster cannons should be oriented vertically rather than horizontally. The guns are substantial enough that cutting and re-attaching them in the proper position will be an easy fix.

Working features include an opening canopy, retractable front landing gear and removable plug-in rear landing gear struts so the ship can be displayed in both the landed and in flight configuration, and working wings which lock positively in the open or closed position. The model also features sound effects, but unlike the TIE, it has no lights. Press BB-8's head and you get the familiar blaster cannon sound, engine sound, and explosion sound. The sound effects are surprisingly loud and clear, and sound just like the sounds we hear in the film. The model also has a detailed cockpit.

Assembly is trouble free, and the parts lock together well with almost no gaps or seams. The finished model is just over 7" long. Overall this is well engineered and durable model with a surprising level of detail for a "kid's model". For less than $20, you get a quality replica with durability and play features kids will like, and enough detail to please many adult collectors as well. Also, these simple kits have tremendous potential for those who like to super-detail. Highly recommended!

I picked up a few more 3.75" TFA figures. I found Constable Zuvio, the carded Stormtrooper with heavy blaster, carded TIE Pilot, and the carded Poe X-Wing pilot-

I've put together two of the gadgets from the "Build a Weapon" figures. One is a low-slung type of tracked battle droid with a couple of blaster cannons, two huge blades on swinging arms, and one red eye. The other is twin barreled over-under pedestal mounted blaster cannon with a telescopic sight. They are actually pretty cool accessories, and since the pins and sockets are the same size, you can mix them up and make different custom droids/guns. The pins and sockets are also the same size as the figures that have various back-packs, so there are some easy custom figure possibilities as well.

The parts for the little battle droid come with the Jakku Finn, Flametrooper, and Zuvio figures, and the blaster cannon parts come with the TIE Pilot, Poe X-Wing pilot, and Resistance Trooper figures-

Here's a 2007 vintage EU Evo Stormtrooper I've been looking for, and finally found-

My review today is another TFA vehicle- the Hasbro 3.75" Desert Landspeeder with Finn figure.

The write up on the back of the box reads "Built from scavenged parts, this landspeeder has been customized to hold up in a harsh desert terrain". The speeder comes partially disassembled. Assembly is a breeze, and everything fits together tightly. This is the first TFA vehicle I've bought that has separate stickers to apply. There are only two. One for the dashboard, and an instrument panel on the inside of the roof. Be sure to apply both decals before you attach the roof/rollcage to the main body, otherwise they will be very difficult to get straight.

The vehicle features a large blaster cannon that launches spring-loaded projectiles. There are two, one loads into the gun, and the other is stored in a rack next to the gun. It also has a smaller pintle mounted twin barrel blaster that mounts on a rotating ring that turns 360 degrees. A figure can stand on a platform in the cockpit and man the gun. Finn's hands hold the grips tightly, and the mount is very secure. Finn also fits into the driver's seat perfectly and grips the steering wheel well. One nice feature is a telescoping steering column. The steering wheel slides into the dashboard to make inserting a figure easy, and this sliding feature also allows adjustment so other figures with longer or shorter arms will be able to properly grip the wheel.

The toys components are made of a nice ABS type of plastic, and everything is strait and very solid. The overall level of detail is good. Parts are molded in a couple of metallic colors, and the paint apps are neatly applied, and look good. The included Finn figure has 5 poa, and is wearing the black garment that's worn under the Stormtrooper armor, like we saw in trailer number three when Finn is on Jakku looking at the distant desert settlement. The paint apps are neatly done, and he has some airbrushed desert dust. The head sculpt is slightly different from other Finn figures, and is a good likeness. Included is the stockless Resistance blaster we've seen Finn carrying in trailer 3.

I love the hot rod look of this speeder. It looks fast just sitting still. This is a well made toy and a worthy addition to any collection. Recommended.

    And here's the pics-
